15 YOHANNA - IS IT TRUE?
Image
Image
Year: 2009
Placing: 2nd
Voters: 8 (SholasBoy, trebor, tansike, Biebz, Ivica, Spartan, Mainshow, CZB)
Score: 264pts
Placing for country: 1st

It was always going to be tough to beat Alexander Rybak in 2009, but Yohanna gave it her best shot, a contemporary ballad with beautiful staging. It still ended up 170 points behind Norway to take the runner up position. I was the only one placing it top 10, though most of its votes were top 20s.

14 VERKA - DANCING!
Image
Image
Year: 2007
Placing: 2nd
Voters: 9 (Marius, heppolo, Nyla, Affilate, SholasBoy, Airwrecka, tansike, Grybop, Erotica)
Score: 273pts
Placing for country: 2nd

One of the most memorable Eurovision entries of the last decade, Verka often returns to Eurovision in sketches, there's rumours of him hosting next year and he even featured in the movie Spy. He was pipped by "Molitva" from Serbia in the end, but this one has really been the winner from that year. The lyrics "lasha tumbai" have come under scrutiny for sounding like "Russia Goodbye". Still, Marius, heppolo and Nyla all put it in their top 10.

13 TEXAS LIGHTNING - NO NO NEVER
Image
Image
Year: 2006
Placing: 14th
Voters: 10 (Marius, trebor, CZB, Ivica, Matthew Dixon, flopho, SholasBoy, Nyla, Erotica, Linalit)
Score: 281pts
Placing for country: 2nd

Here's a surprising result from Germany in 2006. They went country and western with this fun and catchy little number. It couldn't get a place in the top 10, but seems very popular here nevertheless. Both Marius and trebor put it in their top 5.

12 HADISE - DUM TEK TEK
Image
Image
Year: 2009
Placing: 4th
Voters: 9 (flopho, Spartan, aboldmule, Erotica, Nyla, Grybop, SholasBoy, Airwrecka, Ivica)
Score: 283pts
Placing for country: 2nd

Dum Tek Tek is one of those Eurovision tracks that have stood the test of time and is still popular now. flopho put it right at the top while Spartan had it in 2nd place. aboldmule and Erotica placed it top 10 too.

11 ERIC SAADE - POPULAR
Image
Image
Year: 2011
Placing: 3rd
Voters: 10 (Grybop, Matthew Dixon, Erotica, Spartan, aboldmule, Airwrecka, tansike, JSparksFan, Ivica, Affilate)
Score: 294pts
Placing for country: 3rd

So with this coming in 11th, it means only one song that didn't win the Eurovision has made our top 10, it also means Sweden have 2 more songs still to come in the top 10. "Popular", was indeed that, as it won it's semi, however it finished third in the end. Only Grybop found a place in his top 10 for it.

9 Eric Saade - Popular
26 Hadise - Dum Tek Tek
37 Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai

Popular is soooo Eurovision, yet so well done. I usually hate all those generic entries, and, while this one doesn't stray away from formulas, its raw energy made me love it.
Dum Tek Tek is a classic, Serduchka is the Eurovision mascot, Yohanna I should have voted and Texas Lightning... umm.. well... no, no, never.

Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai
is the most bonkers shot at the overall victory I suppose.

I'm losing two and that leaves 7 of my votes in the Top 10!
5 - DE - 13 - Texas Lightning - No No Never
11 - IS - 15 - Yohanna - Is It True

Verka is so over the top! Odd, memorable and fun. Yet, nothing I would want to listen to again.

Don't really recall the Yohanna or Hadise tracks. Verka was absolutely dreadful - would win a "Worst Eurovision Songs of the 21st Century" for me!

The other two made my votes - Eric Saade's great pop song in my top 15, and that German country song just outside my top 20 - I'd agree it's a rather surprisingly high entry for them...

1. The Ark - The Worrying Kind (29)
2.
3.
4. Paradise Oskar - Da Da Dam (72)
5. A Friend In London - New Tomorrow (51)
6. Daz Sampson - Teenage Life (27)
7. Scooch - Flying The Flag (For You) (57)
8. Sjonni's Friends - Coming Home (110)
9. Lena - Taken By A Stranger (24)
10. Jessica Garlick - Come Back (74)
11.
12. Tom Dice - Me And My Guitar (36)
13. Eric Saade - Popular (11)
14. Lisa Andreas - Stronger Every Minute (34)
15. Dervish - They Can't Stop The Spring (193)
16. Hotel FM - Change (205)
17. James Fox - Hold On To Our Love (67)
18. Electro Velvet - Still In Love With You (45)
19. Charlotte Perrelli - Hero (26)
20. Ell & Nikki - Running Scared (73)
21. Texas Lightning - No No Never (13)
22.
23. Helena Paparizou - My Number One (18)
24. Jade Ewen - It's My Time (151)
25. Manga - We Could Be The Same (120)
26. Pirates Of The Sea - Wolves Of The Sea (59)
27. Jedward - Waterline (242)
28.
29. Olsen Brothers - Fly On The Wings Of Love (25)
30. Javine - Touch My Fire (68)
31. t.A.T.u - Ne Ver Ne Boisia (55)
32. Blue - I Can (33)
33. Elitsa & Stoyan - Water (88)
34.
35.
36.
37. LT United - We Are The Winners (91)
38. Molly - Children Of The Universe (84)
39. Andy Abraham - Even If (268)
40. Nicki French - Don't Play That Song Again (191)

So - only two tracks remaining that I didn't vote for - and one of those two was actually only just missing from my votes.

10 RUSLANA - WILD DANCES
Image
Image
Year: 2004
Placing: 1st
Voters: 11 (Airwrecka, aboldmule, trebor, ivica, marius, spartan, nyla, sholasboy, matthewdixon, flopho, grybop)
Score: 309pts
Placing for country: 1st

10th place is our 9th highest Eurovision winner and it was great news for Ukraine who were only in their 2nd year in the competition. Compared to Xena Princess Warrior, Ruslana continued a new sound for Eurovision with those drums we had from Turkeys winner the previous year. Airwrecka put this in 4th place.

9 CONCHITA WURST - RISE LIKE A PHOENIX
Image
Image
Year: 2014
Placing: 1st
Voters: 9 (JSparksFan, Nyla, Tansike, Airwrecka, Biebz, aboldmule, Erotica, CZB, Affilate)
Score: 322pts
Placing for country: 1st

Probably the biggest celebrity to come out of Eurovision in the last decade, Conchita blew away the competition with her beard and frock in 2014, giving Austria a much needed win after many years of failing to qualify. Although less people voted this one, all but one put it in their top 20 and JSparksFan had it right at the very top!

8 LORDI - HARD ROCK HALLELUJAH
Image
Image
Year: 2006
Placing: 1st
Voters: 10 (Marius, Trebor, MatthewDixon, Tansike, Airwrecka, heppolo, Flopho, Aboldmule, Affilate, Ivica)
Score: 360pts
Placing for country: 1st

Finland brought a whole new style of winner to the Eurovision in 2006 with rock band Lordi and their horror masks, it lead to many less successful rockier entries over the following years. Marius and trebor both placed this right at the very top of their lists, while Matthew Dixon put it as his number 3.

These are the ones that I have voted for:
01 - FI - 08 - Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah
10 - UA - 10 - Ruslana - Wild Dances

7 to go and 5 that got votes from me. (Have no clue what two songs will be so high in the general ranking)
Lordi was such a fresh breeze and utterly non-conformist entry.
Great to see Ruslana making the Top 10!

48 Ruslana - Wild Dances

I remember frequenting a ESC-related forum for a few months before the 2004 contest, and this song was one of the least discussed. A couple of days before the big Saturday, someone said that this was such an obvious winner that all discussion should end there. I then played my poor quality mp3 again and realized it was one of the few really catchy songs that year, but still sounded too tribal, oriental, traditional if you will, to win. Then came Saturday and when I saw that performance, all doubts disappeared.
That said, Wild Dances hasn't aged well at all for me.

Conchita and Lordi are overrated, but the keyboard playing girl never fails to make me laugh.

I didn't really get Conchita Wurst. Once you took away the "gimmick" of the fact that as a trans woman she somehow had kept her beard, I felt the song and the singer were unremarkable.

Ruslana wasn't really my thing, though I accepted her as good at what she did I guess.

Lordi were ace - a total breath of fresh air for Eurovision! I thought they'd do better than they've done.

I voted 6/7 of the remaining songs - with my No. 2 still to come, and my No. 11 (which I had expected to do nowhere near this well!)

1. The Ark - The Worrying Kind (29)
2.
3. Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (8)
4. Paradise Oskar - Da Da Dam (72)
5. A Friend In London - New Tomorrow (51)
6. Daz Sampson - Teenage Life (27)
7. Scooch - Flying The Flag (For You) (57)
8. Sjonni's Friends - Coming Home (110)
9. Lena - Taken By A Stranger (24)
10. Jessica Garlick - Come Back (74)
11.
12. Tom Dice - Me And My Guitar (36)
13. Eric Saade - Popular (11)
14. Lisa Andreas - Stronger Every Minute (34)
15. Dervish - They Can't Stop The Spring (193)
16. Hotel FM - Change (205)
17. James Fox - Hold On To Our Love (67)
18. Electro Velvet - Still In Love With You (45)
19. Charlotte Perrelli - Hero (26)
20. Ell & Nikki - Running Scared (73)
21. Texas Lightning - No No Never (13)
22.
23. Helena Paparizou - My Number One (18)
24. Jade Ewen - It's My Time (151)
25. Manga - We Could Be The Same (120)
26. Pirates Of The Sea - Wolves Of The Sea (59)
27. Jedward - Waterline (242)
28.
29. Olsen Brothers - Fly On The Wings Of Love (25)
30. Javine - Touch My Fire (68)
31. t.A.T.u - Ne Ver Ne Boisia (55)
32. Blue - I Can (33)
33. Elitsa & Stoyan - Water (88)
34.
35.
36. Ruslana - Wild Dances (10)
37. LT United - We Are The Winners (91)
38. Molly - Children Of The Universe (84)
39. Andy Abraham - Even If (268)
40. Nicki French - Don't Play That Song Again (191)

7 MANS ZELMERLOW - HEROES
Image
Image
Year: 2015
Placing: 1st
Voters: 11 (JSparksFan, Erotica, Ivica, floppho, Marius, Airwrecka, Spartan, tansike, Nyla, Affilate, Matthew Dixon)
Score: 371pts
Placing for country: 2nd

The latest winner on our list, Mans set a precedent for including animations and SFX for part of the performance, something we saw much more of this year. While nobody placed him right at the very top 6 people put him top 10 with JSparksFan and Erotica both placing him as high as no.4.

6 EMMELIE DE FOREST - ONLY TEARDROPS
Image
Image
Year: 2013
Placing: 1st
Voters: 14 (tansike, JSparksFan, Airwrecka, Nyla, Biebz, SholasBoy, trebor, Spartan, Marius, flopho, Ivica, Affilate, CZB, Mainshow )
Score: 376pts
Placing for country: 1st

Two thirds of people voted this one which took Emmelie to the top in 2013 with no shoes and a flute. 5 people put it in their top 10, with tansike placing her as his no.4.

5 THE COMMON LINNETS - CALM AFTER THE STORM
Image
Image
Year: 2014
Placing: 2nd
Voters: 12 (CZB, trebor, Biebz, JSparksFan, Marius, Matthew Dixon, SholasBoy, heppolo, flopho, Spartan, Mainshow, tansike)
Score: 449pts
Placing for country: 1st

A big leap in the points now as we make the top 5 and the only song not to win the competition in our top 10. This one shows how a great performance can make all the difference, as initially people had it down as borderline for even qualifying, but their stripped back beautiful performance wowed everyone at the semi's and the song went on to give Conchita a run for her money. I think it became an influential entry for several songs in the following years too. Although nobody put it straight at the top, CZB put it at no.2, while 5 people had it top 10.

4 SERTAB ERENER - EVERY WAY THAT I CAN
Image
Image
Year: 2003
Placing: 1st
Voters: 12 (Airwrecka, Nyla, trebor, Erotica, Ivica, flopho, Grybop, aboldmule, Marius, SholasBoy, Matthew Dixon, Affilate)
Score: 454pts
Placing for country: 1st

The oldest song in the top 10 and Turkey's most successful entry every. Sertab Erener again had much influence in future competitions with so many entries coming through with those ethnic drums, the following winners from Ukraine and Greece certainly borrowed a little from what Turkey brought to the competition this year. A strong performance ensured a win, though again nobody placed her at the very top, Airwrecka had her at no.2 while 8 people had it in their top 10.

8 Sertab Erener - Everyway That I Can

A firm favourite of mine from very early on that year and a fantastic, and, yes, influential performance to top it off, this is also the shortest winner since I don't know when, clocking in at 2'46'', while the studio version is some 10'' shorter.

I'm glad to see The Common Linnets being #5! Their performance was incredible, so much chemistry. This song would have been even bigger and more successful if it had won Eurovision.

I like "Everyway That I Can" but it's definitely not part of my Eurovision Top 30 or even Top 50. The performance was great, though.
She clearly paved the way for Ruslana, Helena Paparizou and other pop girls delivering ethno-influenced gems in Eurovision!

Calling it now, I was thinking a few places back it might be between Satellite and Euphoria for #1... what is the other song that is left? Has Fairytale charted yet?

I'll do an update of my list bit later.
