Welcome to my next countdown! Just starting the thread as a placeholder for now (bit of a knocked together banner as well which I may edit further a bit later :P), I'm still finalising the starting voting list and working out how best to present it (I have compiled a fairly extensive list of artists from ones that are more prolific, having at least a #1 single or album or both on their native charts; to the more obscure with only a major song or few to their name). I thought it may be good to do as an artist countdown.

In this process the list has swelled from around 310 to 450ish, thus the need for some organising of the voting list so it seems less daunting for the non-Aus/NZ members, and encourage you to do some light exploration in the voting period to make it interesting and fill out your lists (which will probably be a Top 70 limit again). Even I am exploring some of the NZ side of things a bit more in compiling the nominees.

I Should have an initial list up by the end of the week. In the meantime, found this thread by Virgostar, which should give you a good headstart in sampling some Aus/NZ stuff, mainly focused in the 2000-2011ish range, although some 90's etc links have been included for some artists as well. :P

You can if you like, but feel free to add to it once my starter list is up. :)

I'm almost done with it, have drawn from the chart #1's (from the 60's to now) some chart achievements, major award category wins, as a base then will embellish some more from the rest of my Shortlist and off the top of my head + any others from virgostars thread and your uk chart list Matthew.

That should be enough to end up with a fairly extensive list to peruse and work with, of course if there's an act I haven't mentioned and you want to stan for it I'll add it to the voting list.

Anyways will aim to have something up in the next day or so. :P

Okayyyy, So I think this is enough for a starter list, couldn't Include Absolutely Errybodayy (See what I did there? :P) But this is already a pretty extensive cross section to draw from (at around 438 in the Aus list, and around 173 from the Kiwi side).

Of course that all includes some that are considered a bit of both (like Jon Stevens or Crowded House), acts from a band (or many in some cases) with some solo work, etc.

I drew mainly from the aforementioned sources plus a few extra, but even then did not include all like some of the more minor charting/not charting Talent show alumni, cast acts that hit number one such as AUIdol 2003 T12 and the Jesus Christ Superstar '92 cast etc, although I did keep some others like Parody/Comedic acts (Twelfth Man and Chris Franklin being #1 charting examples).

Some of yours Matthew_dixon were indeed a bit obscure, I didn't include them if it was too difficult to determine nationality or find anything on them. Virgostar also did an Aussie rock thread, although I think these were all reposted to that original thread I posted earlier.

I've included some annotations to a few, mainly TV credits or associated acts. Anyways, Hopefully this makes the initial list somewhat more digestible to work with, and if again if theres some act I haven't included you want to include in your votes pm me and I may add it to the voting list.

But for now, Look Up/Listen to a few random ones while you sort your lists, and:

PM me your Top 70 (or less) by we'll say Sun 12th June 2016 at this point.
Please label your #1 clearly.

Just doing a bit of trimming as i do my own list and by this logic, a look at 'All Of Us' on the NZ list is another one I prob could also have cut, seeing as I didn't include those other two for more conciseness (is that even a word lol) of the starter list.

The song 'Sailing Away' is a one off 'supergroup' song of various artists/personalities ala Band Aid or USA for Africa (in this case a song for NZ in the America's cup). Albeit holding the record for most weeks at #1 on NZ Charts by a NZ single from 1986 to 2009. What do you think. Anyways, off to keep working on mine. :P

Where are the Cloud control
The band went on to be nominated for two 2010 ARIA awards, Best Rock Album and Breakthrough Artist, though lost out in both categories.
In March 2011 album Bliss Release was announced as the winner of the 6th annual Australian Music Prize along with the $30,000 cash prize.

Checked and all the OZ/NZ legends (I like) are there.
All Of Us: Ditch it! 8-) No, kidding. :D I'm certain it won't get any votes, anyway!
NZ: I'm missing Pikachunes!?

Need all the time available to thoroughly check the artists I don't know (=vast majority).
Would you please bump this thread two weeks before deadline? Thank you :D

Added to the Aus list. ;) Also added Pikachunes for trebor.

Good efforts by the few of you already sent in some votes with 30 and 40. :) I had also gotten Erotica's list earlier, and from that on I'm opening as recieved but not looking at them until I've locked in my own list so It's not influenced. :)

You may also amend/add to your lists if you like up to the closing date.

Cute banner.

Delta FTW!

Some of the names mentioned on the list are so hilariously obscure or niche. Also I had no idea that Roachford was Australian - 'Lay Your Love On Me' and 'Only To Be With You' are classic rock radio staples.

EDIT:

Just looked it up, he's British!

 Thanks! snipping that one, I believe it might've been included in the first iteration a few months ago when I went through my Itunes library artist list, dunno where I thought I saw an Aus connection but anyway.

EDIT: added some clarification notes to 'Diesel', 'Boyband' and 'Girlband'. :P

I have my shortlist down to about 100, gotta make some pretty brutal cuts now.

Also added Jarryd James to the Aus list. :) Also thought of a few more, but I don't think it'd make much difference adding some of these at this point as they're mostly all lumped together with already mentioned acts, some in a more prolific, solo or group capacity i.e:

* Michael Hutchence' posthumous album, much more well known for INXS and also side project Max Q is on the list,
* Kate Ceberano featured in band I'm Talking which had a few singles; and
* Daniel Johns (Silverchair) and Paul Mac collaborated under the name The Dissociatives, while a pre-Idol Wes Carr was in a band called Tambalane as a side project of Silverchair's Ben Gillies;

to name a few. Anyhow, Just got a bit more sorting to do with mine then I'll put up a participants list so far in the first post when I'm done.

Okay - managed to get a top 60. Any more, and I'm starting to vote for acts I'm really not that fussed in. IMHO the greatest act on the list - the Bee Gees - I've not ended up ranking as my No. 1, because I don't see them as Aussie enough. They did make it to a high placing in my votes though as they're amazing.

Can I just confirm you're definitely right that Daniel Bedingfield is from New Zealand, but his sister Natasha is not, yes? I tend to associate Daniel more with NZ than I do Natasha, though I'm not sure why...

Apparently so, I was intrigued to look this up when I watched a youtube of NZ's XFactor Season 1 (which he was a mentor on) and was surprised to see He actually did have a NZ heritage. According to wikipedia, their mother is Kiwi, and He was born there but they look to have moved to UK by the time Natasha came along.

Also great work in getting 60. I have also added this week Ruby Frost (another XFactor NZ Mentor) and Jamie McDell to the NZ list.

Also inserted Darren Percival and Jason Owen to the Aus side (from VoiceAU and XFactorAU'12), although at this point its a bit redundant, there are several other minor talent show alumni who have released something, and I have included some and not others, at varying levels of charting, accreditations, placing in their seasons, etc.

Bit of a mishmash, however I think I have got the majority of the better known ones there, some of the others pop up in wikipedia's 'discography of' lists, which i will edit and link to below. So if you really want to do some further explorin' have at it (although I don't think they'll gather much votes for this list this time but anyways). :)

Wiki Talent show Discographys
(Australian Idol)
(XFactor AU)
(Voice Australia) - Outdated, only lists for S1&2, check season pages for further finalists (Ellie Drennan's (listed) 'Ghost' apparently reached #25 on the ARIA Charts last year.
Australia's Got Talent

(NZ Idol)
(XFactor NZ)
FWIW: NZ's Got Talent

Been busy this week but edging closer to finalising my votes so I can take a look at some of yours that have been coming in! :P
