and I bet that "Into the Groove", not even released in the US, is by far more popular than many of her 12 no.1s.

Blondie - One Way Or Another. Never actually released as a single in the UK but a hugely popular song that everyone knows.

The single 'Thriller' only made it to #10 in the UK, despite being one of Michael Jackson's biggest hits. 'Purple Rain' never made it to #1 in either the UK or the US, despite being Prince's signature song.

But the crowing glory imo is Madonna with 'Holiday' - an absolute favourite of the general public, but it ever went top 10 in the US and failed to get to #1 in the UK despite being released here on 3 seperate occasions.

Cyndi Lauper Girls Just Wanna Have Fun hit #2 even though Time After Time and True Colours both #1 are almost just as popular.

So is Enya's Orinoco Flow or Only Time their most popular WW? In America, I'd say it's OT rn (and their highest ranked on BB I think ) , but for the longest time it was OF...

Britney Spears' signature songs "Toxic", "I'm a Slave 4 U" and "Oops!.. I Did It Again" are way bigger than all her other Hot 100 #1 singles (except for "...Baby One More Time").

Agreed on Simply Red and Erasure. I'd also add the Manic Street Preachers. Easily their classic was "A Design For Life" yet they topped the chart with "If You Tolerate This" and the limited release "The Masses Against The Classes" whilst ADFL peaked at 2

Supertramp - ''It's Raining Again''
(US #11, 1982)

During 1980s, Supertramp never reached the Top 10 again after their last Top 10 hit Take the Long Way Home reached at #10 in 1979. I knew that It's Raining Again should be Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit, but it never reached to Top 10.
