Discovering albums a lot later than the time it was released

I'm pretty sure that not everyone gets to follow album releases by their favorite artists or even just general artists at the time these ablums exactly came out. Some may discover albums a lot later due to sudden interest, maybe these albums were way older to be experienced by some music fans, or maybe one may not have even been aware that this album existed and was released some time ago.

My example would be Brandy's Full Moon. I remember how I was obsessed with "What About Us?" in early 2002, I was so excited to watch the Making the Video. I loved when she released "Full Moon" as the second single, and "Come a Little Closer" was released in Philippine radio in late 2002, but I never bought the album.

I only started listening to the album when I was able to download it off Limewire   in 2008 months before Human came out. As much as the production is a bit dated (most of the effects were very early 2000s) I enjoyed every song, I found it cohesive despite having the first part having that futuristic uptempo feel and the second half being so ballad-heavy.

Which albums did you first experience listening to a lot later than the time it came out? :D :D :D

Well this is why I love streaming services - I now work backwards because looking forwards all the new stuff is mainly crap

At the moment, 2018 is my ‘discover Janet Jackson’ year. 2014 was Kate Bush, because I bought tickets to her show - I wasn’t a fan and never listened to her properly before, but I bought tickets because I knew it was going to be an event. Hounds of Love is now one of my all time favourite albums.

Being born in 1979, this is the case with a LOT of my faves from previous eras.... Beatles, Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Beach Boys, Who, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, Talking Heads, etc...

I didn’t discover Janet till I was about 25… really glad I didn’t because I was really able to take the albums in. Now Rythum Nation is probably my favourite album ever.

Rhythm Nation is a masterpiece. That was probably the most instant album for me to get into of her work

Her voice keeps getting lost in the mix. I love the song itself, but the album is a bit samey. Control was much simpler and better thus far imo.

As kid I got mainly Cd-singles and not albums, so a lot of albums like Stripped, Justified etc. I only discovered later in full since I simply only had some of the CD-singles and no access to internet until I was like 12 or 13

I discovered Mariah when I was 9 (1994). I got her early work towards the end of the 1990s.
