Yeah, this. I think the people who make these often don't realise that 'mashup' means more than just 'throw a load of stuff together and see what it sounds like'.
Take this, for example:
This was a revelation to me. I love the two songs separately - particularly the one that they took the music from, which I regard as one of my top 10 songs of all time - but since hearing this mashup, it seems weird to hear them separately because it just works so brilliantly. Unfortunately the rest of the album didn't always work so well, but this is still an absolute joy.
I guess the best way to sum up the idea of a good mashup would be to say "go look up the 'As Heard On Radio Soulwax' compilations", because hackjobs on YouTube seem to fail hard.
