What makes a song "generic"?

It depends.

lyrics referring to "Let's party all night, dance all night", "I don't get what I deserve from my boyfriend", "enjoy sex all the way" especially when they are not personal and forced in hope of getting attention (just my feeling ofcoz)

melody - too many hooks "Oh Oh ah ah " "la la" , "ya di, ya da"

vocals - autotune vocals,

videos - oversexed videos, controversial videos, pointless videos

When it starts with the name (or nickname) of the artist like "Jason Derulo" or "Jay Sean" or "Akon" or "Convicted" or "Red One" or "Mrs Worldwide" etc

Yep, I'll agree there.
Let's embrace the point of no return.

for sure ..

She's not that good though either! :P Katy, Brit and Rihanna are about the same for me, although I think Rihanna can sing best out of all 3 (well in the studio only).

I like Katy's silly songs like I Kissed a Girl, Hot n Cold or Teenage Dream because at least she admits that her songs aren't exactly the brightest, but at least have ''something'' youthful or funny (but without the dance/club/sex sh*t), while her new album is filled with ''serious'' stuff which just sounds fake and forced IMO
She has a strange voice that works well in certain songs (like this one), but the problem is that most of her songs require really strong Beyonce-like vocals which she just doesn't have

I don't mind Last Friday Night, the video is cute as well, what I like about Katy is that she doesn't take herself too seriously which makes it easier for me to not to aswell.

^ Yup, that's the reason I like Kesha, she's just funny as a person and doesn't give a fu*k and her lyrics are often funny as well
