I would'e been cool if she collaborated with Baths for this album. Blissing Me gives of Baths-vibes. This album doesn't seem to have a clear direction, when judging the singles and reading interviews. But... I'll probAbly fall in love with the full album when I hear it.

I'm listening now and it feels like forever. it's really hard to get through. I'm obviously not a big fan of late Björk so my opinion isn't the best indicator.

Blissing Me is the Stonemilker of this album - the only listenable (but wonderful) song. the rest is impossible tbh, like one long, samey flute noise and she's screaming over it

What the actual phuck Bjork? I'm halfway through it and it's totally disappointing. I will definitely play it more but damn, i am so bored. Arisen My Senses sounded wonderful but everything after the gate is a letdown. In most of the songs her singing even became lazy, especially in Body Memory, which sounds like her worst song ever. Also the lyrics are just blah, especially after amazingly written Vulnicura. Features Creatures for example is laughable.

She described Loss like a continuation of Pagan Poetry. Pagan Poetry my ass. But with all other songs Loss sounds like a good one actually, at least the ending.

Just played Claimstaker and it sounds good, along with Arisen My Senses. Sue Me is also okayish, especially the outro, but nothing special really.

I don't know, it feels totally random. Arca's production on this just doesn't fit with her singing, it's like they randomly mixed instrumentals with her voice.
Ugh, and i had huge expectations after reading it's Vespertinish.

I am here for an album less instant that Vulnicura. Maybe it's a grower like Volta or Biophilia. Can't wait to listen to it.

I've just listened to Loss before going to bed and I find it absolutely breathtaking. Hope that the rest of the album is like that song.

Ok, this album is a real test.

There's no point in discussing my first impression, cause it will probably grow on me like Volta. Hopefully. Possibly maybe.

The good songs are there, but it's just very long to digest in one listen.

Just gave it two more spins... well, definitely my least favourite album from Björk ever.

Sounds boring, randomly mixed, too Arcaish, too forgettable. I don't get why she calls it a "tinder album" , since it's not joyful - or sad (like "Vulnicura"). To be honest, I can't feel anything at all.

I love the flutes (lol), but this can't save the songs.

Björk, what happened?

I don't get the "Volta" hate... I love it from the very beginning. Also, "Medúlla" is my fave among her discography (despite being called her "hardest" record).

P.S.: just realized she'll probably go on tour in 2018/2019... GUYS, HOW IN HELL "UTOPIA" WILL TAKE FORM IN LIVE VERSIONS, SINCE MOST OF IT SOUNDS RANDOM? :o

Well, I like it
It took time to get used to the flutes (I HATE flutes), but there are a lot of good/great songs.

I really hope to feel the same way! I absolutely loved "The Gate" and thought "Blissing Me" was decent (can't seem to muster any appreciation for the video).

Whenever I find her revisiting former sounds and textures I lose a bit of interest, Vulnicura for instance. "The Gate" showed so much promise.

(I finally accepted Volta as an amazing record last year)

Well, I think the album has a very clear sound that she has never tried before.
Blissing me is an exception, the rest is more like The Gate.

Utopia feels like a diversion, not a destination. A nice place to visit--beautiful, even--but you wouldn't want to live there. [Jan 2018, p.89]

Sad, but true.

aside from MOJO and a few others, most reviews are positive as usual (according to Metacritic)

I think fans are much more divided (or even negative) about this

I do get the initial response from fans, but it's an album that really grows on you, IMO.
My initial difficulties with Utopia were due to the fact that I basically loathe flutes as an instrument  but I'm getting used to it. Her voice is beautiful, the song have a great structure, and even the apparently silly lyrics resonate greatly in the context they're put in and in the way they are sung.
I am not sure where I would put it in my Björk album ranking, but it's definitely her most adventurous album since Volta, and I really missed that from her.

My highlights are: Arisen My Senses, Blissing Me, The Gate, Features Creatures, Loss, Sue Me, Claimstaker, Future Forever

I really like this. It's not instant. You need to listen to it a few times in order to really appreciate it fully. As usual, listening on good headphones gives you a totally different perspective than listening on cheap speakers. Give it a chance, this album will take you to heaven <3

I enjoy the album after two spins, however it's far away from being as strong as "Vulnicura" was for me. Still, i actually expected much worse after reading some of the reviews...

Vulnicura is top 40 pop in comparison, but this is the real deal. I absolutely adore it from start to finish now.
