Yeah but also band of different genres which is very interesting and refreshing to see. + Ivy (the first The Voice of Germany winner) is very talented, love her voice! She just needs the right song to shine, in my opinion.
I hope they will bring diversity and more catchy songs. Give us some awesome music and talented artists. Cmon Germany, you can make it...

And here it is! HAPPY ESC Season (and Merry Christmas, Ukmix!)

Personally, I think it's one of Albania's best efforts. It's melodic and almost anthemic! I hope they won't ruin the song's essence by making changes so that the song meets the Eurovision rules.

I'm so excited that wheels are in motion now, the best thing about those usually depressing first few months of any year is the frequent release of future Eurovision favourites :D

So the contestants of the german pre-selection were revealed and there is the current The Voice winner and a former The Voice winner, plus a few unknown names. I‘m glad they‘re going back with contestants having their own songs instead of last years mess.

Yes and no.

Artists are also allowed to participate with their songs.
Voxxclub just released an album yesterday and it is highly rumoured that they will take a song fromthat record.

I agree. I do hope there is someone with stage charisma (this is one of the main problems in recent DE entries) and a catchy song that stands out.

EUROVISION - 2018 - CALENDAR:

23/12 Albania
27/01 France
29/01 Czech Republic
29/01 Spain
29/01 Semi Finals Allocation Draw
03/02 Malta
04/02 Switzerland
07/02 United Kingdom
10/02 Denmark
10/02 Italy
17/02 Montenegro
22/02 Germany
24/02 Armenia
24/02 Moldova
24/02 Slovenia
24/02 Ukraine
24/02 Hungary
25/02 Romania
03/03 Estonia
03/03 Finland
03/03 Iceland
04/03 Portugal
10/03 Lithuania
10/03 Norway
10/03 Sweden

08/05 Eurovision Song Contest - 1st Semi Final
10/05 Eurovision Song Contest - 2nd Semi Final
12/05 Eurovision Song Contest - Grand Final

---------

I've just listed the dates when we get the final Eurovision entries determined by a National Final.
Greece, Belarus, Cyprus, Serbia, Poland will host National Finals as well but no dates are known. Israel, Spain, San Marino have a preselection/national final as well but it seems that they will select the entrant only (like Armenia did last year). That's why I did not include their dates on the list.

28 National Finals
+ 3 Preselections to determin the entrant

That's an interesting year! - So we kinda get 31 National Finals and only 12 internal selections this year! That's massive!

The presenters, women only 8-)

Image

Actually, I have never cared about the hosts. They usually have very stupid and embarrassing previously written down jokes which are not funny at all. Also, their time is limited and they are not needed apart from explaining the rules and saying "Good evening [insert a country's name here]" when it comes to the voting process. Four hosts are crazy. You basically need just one or two (if you want to have someone lingering around in the green room to "interview" the artists "How are you feeling?" - "What would you do if you actually win?" - "Do you want to say anything to your fans out there?") and that's it.

Anyway, they all look like kind women :D

In recent history Petra and Mans were the best, at least they had natural personalities.

I watched the first semi final of the French preselection as well and I was surprised that so many great songs had been offered! "Ciao" has been my favourite.
France finally seems to understand how Eurovision is working anf taking it seriously.
I hope the BBC will understand it too someday.

The French preselection is a huge success. It was watched by 2.5 million people. That's basically how many people tuned in in 2014 to watch the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest xD. The French people seem to finally love it as well ;)

It's good to have Amir as a recent success story as well.
I hope France does well this year and keeps the whole interest growing. They just need not to mess up the staging for their own entry (and don't make unnecessary changes) like they kinda did with both Amir and Alma.

Truth told.

But I believe that the indeed unnecessary changes didn't harm the results. I mean, ending up being top 10 in televoting twice in a row is freaking awesome for a country like France!

Btw, what's your opinion on the Belarussian preselection?
I think Belarus is sadly doomed. I only like "Forever" by that Ukrainian singer. What's his name?..Aleksev? He should have submitted it in Russian, though.
But it seems that he will face disqualifocation since he performed the song in May already (the Russian version).
I thought that after last year's success, Belarus would be able to come up with something charming and authentic again.

Belarusian National Final is awful (as always). Most of the songs are dated as hell or uber-cheesy, there aren't even a handful of pretty looking girls & boys to distract from the abysmal quality of the songs.
Alekseev's not used to singing in English hence he butchers the song. Our selection is decided behind the scenes by the music biz executives most of the time, so they are most likely going to settle for cutting their losses with the help of Alekseev covering all the expenditures by himself and his team.
The only other potential winners might be Shuma (they're similar to last year's interval act, ONUKA) and Gunesh (8th time in the National Final, has a relatively significant name in the local showbiz scene). But their chances are very slim.
