Stranger Things is an American science fiction supernatural horror television series created by the Duffer Brothers for Netflix. It was written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer and executive produced by Shawn Levy.
The show is set in 1980s Indiana. A young boy vanishes mysteriously, and a telekinetic girl appears, who helps the boy's friends in their attempt to find him.
The show was released by Netflix on July 15, 2016. It was met with positive reviews by critics, and was praised for its characterization, pacing, atmosphere, acting, and homage to 1980s Hollywood.
I watched 3 episodes of this and it's absolutely brilliant so far! It's like a mixture of X-Files and all the cheesy 80's horror movies with a spice of David Lynch and Tim Burton

Need to start this soon

Always loved Winona Ryder and it's great to see her finally having a comeback. The way her career ended over the shoplifting thing was ridiculous when you have drug addicts and wifebeaters who were forgiven.

We started last night and ended up with half the season watched (we're really lagging behind on tv because of differeing schedules, we have yet to finish the season of OITNB and we still have about 7 unwatched Preacher episodes to go) but we're going to finish it tonight after Justin comes home from work.

I really love the score music. I love the atmosphere and how it's a period piece without trying to ham it up. It's nice to see all the little homages to classic 1980s films in it (I spotted ET, Firestarter, Alien, Starman and a few others in the first 4 eps).

It is great to see Winona back.

For me the most obvious homage was to Poltergeist.... hopefully you'll notice that soon too
Glad you're enjoying tho! :D

Finished it.

I see some Poltergeist in it especially with the mom and the spirit world... to me I also see a lot of E.T. (the kids playing D&D as well as the kid taking Eleven in and teaching her about the world), Firestarter (the way Eleven was used for research by an evil government agency) and quite a bit of Alien predominantly in the last episode, the one scene with the egg in the other world was such an homage, along with the nest.

Funny that Barb has somehow become this big internet meme when she was such an unremarkable character

I've started watching this in the past few days -- I've currently just finished episode three -- and I don't think it's anywhere near as great as I've heard some of my friends make it out to be. I think the quality so far is quite inconsistent; there are moments and things about it that are fantastic but on the whole I'm with MrRager in saying I'm not sure whether I like it or not.

It's amazing, I loved everything about it, It made me miss Winona Ryder so much! I can't believe she plays the role of a mom with a teenage son now, I still remember the days when she was pretty much the Jennifer Lawrence of the 1990s.

I must say that the musical score is also brilliant, they really captured the eighties feel to it! I feel so sad for Barb's death, it reminds me of old horror flicks where the virgins and the other good people become the first victims!

I've just watched the first episode and I'm blown away by Winona's performance and the whole vibe of this show, it screams cult 80's movie to me.

Just finished watching it - I wasn't really that into it initially, but as someone else said elsewhere, each episode is better than the one before it.

The final episode was amazing, non-stop action, leading to one hell of a climax... it was so sad

If I had to fault that show, it would only be that (aside from 11), all the characters are heavily stereotyped.
