http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... z4d50rrmQKAmerican Idol will not be rebooted in 2018.
According to a Saturday report from TMZ, the show has put on hold even though both NBC and Fox were interested.
The reason for the sudden change is an alleged fight between the co-owners of American Idol, Fremantle and Core.
http://popcrush.com/american-idol-returns-abc-offer/On March 2018, viewers could be texting in their votes to pick the next American Idol. According to TMZ, ABC made an offer to buy the show. The offer comes on the heels of unsuccessful bids from NBC and FOX.

The news comes just 13 months after it ended its record-shattering 15-season run on Fox.
Less than a week after making an offer on American Idol, ABC has officially snapped up rights to the storied singing competition — putting an end to several months of speculation about if (and where) the former Fox phenomenon would return to TV for the coming season.
Details on the what the ABC Idol will look like are relatively slim at this time. Its revival news comes with no on-camera talent attached, but that will likely change rather quickly. Idol questions will be the most pressing on May 16, when the network speaks with reporters and Madison Avenue buyers at its annual upfront presentation.
http://wdwnt.com/blog/2017/05/american- ... isneyland/TMZ is reporting that with “American Idol” now coming back and airing on ABC, that auditions will be held at Walt Disney World and possibly even Disneyland Resort.
http://popcrush.com/kelly-clarkson-amer ... anel-deal/TMZ says that ABC has shown “serious interest” in recruiting Clarkson, and that the singer is so on board, she’s already begun freeing up her schedule to contend with filming demands.
The site adds Idol is considering switching to once-weekly episodes (previous seasons included two or three episodes each week) and noted that auditions will probably be consolidated to Disney World and Disney Land instead of various cities across the country.
Former host Ryan Seacrest is also close to returning to Idol, TMZ reports. He was the host of the original 15 seasons and said on Live! earlier this week that he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of coming back.
“I don’t know about that part yet, we haven’t gotten that far,” he said, but noted his new job’s parent company would make the gig easier. “I said, ‘Well, that’s kind of good to know, I work here!’”
http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/ ... y-clarksonSources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Katy Perry is in active talks to sign on as judge of the new American Idol, set to premiere in 2018. Perry's arrival on Idol would mark the first on-camera puzzle piece, as negotiations continue about whether or not former Fox host Ryan Seacrest will be able to reprise his old gig on top of new duties with Live With Kelly and Ryan and his radio show. (An ABC rep declined to comment on Perry.)

'AMERICAN IDOL' STRUGGLING TO FIND JUDGES
And the Clock is Ticking
The "American Idol" reboot seems to be in crisis -- honchos still haven't locked down a second, third and possibly fourth judge, with only 6 weeks until cameras roll.
Our 'Idol' sources tell us ... none of the previous front-runners -- Lionel Richie, Charlie Puth, Luke Bryan or Keith Urban -- are any closer to signing than they were a few weeks ago. We're told record producer Nile Rodgers has now been tossed in the mix.
The issue with Lionel, we're told, is his team's asking around $10 mil ... double what they want to pay. 'A.I.' producers are also still debating whether to go with 3 or 4 judges. At this point it all comes down to money, but it sounds like they'd like 4.
Auditions for 'Idol' hopefuls kick off Thursday in Orlando, but filmed auditions in front of the judges don't begin until the end of Sept.
