Emmy nominations: The biggest snubs and surprises of 2017

We know what you’re thinking. We thought the exact same way. So let’s compare notes, shall we? Here’s our rundown of the biggest snubs — and most welcome surprises — from Thursday morning’s 69th Primetime Emmy nominations.

It was a crazy season, but House of Cards squeaked into the Outstanding Drama category, leaving The Americans, The Leftovers, and 13 Reasons Why without a spot in the coveted category.

Discovery’s Genius got a nom for Outstanding Limited Series? Surprise, surprise.

No nomination for This Is Us star Mandy Moore? The NBC series is good enough for an Outstanding Drama nod, as well as much-deserved nominations for Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia, but nothing for its biggest-name female star?

The Outstanding Actor in a Drama category featured seven nominees — certainly good news for Ray Donovan‘s Liev Schreiber. But sorry, Paul Giamatti from Billions; the men from This Is Us are just too popular.

A high five for Ron Cephas Jones of This Is Us in the supporting category, but nothing for Ed Harris in Westworld?

Nothing for three-time Emmy winner Claire Danes in Homeland? Zilch for Christine Baranski from The Good Fight?

But yeah for Millie Bobby Brown, her first nomination ever for Stranger Things! And double yeah for Samira Wiley for The Handmaid’s Tale! But boo-hoo for Winona Ryder for playing a most outstanding mom in Stranger Things.

Kudos, we guess, to the marketing team behind Netflix’s Grace and Frankie. Both Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin earned nominations in the Outstanding Actress category, beating out Issa Rae of Insecure and Sarah Jessica Parker from Divorce.

Zero for Catherine Zeta-Jones from Feud, and nada for Oprah Winfrey in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks?

After a tone-deaf season, I guess we’re not surprised that The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon was overlooked in Best Variety Talk Series, but nothing for Seth Meyers in the category?

Her show was canceled, but the love continues for Felicity Huffman: She earned a nom for American Crime. The Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series category also had another surprise: a nomination for Fargo’s Carrie Coon, her first.

HBO’s Girls got a big yeah sorry no soup for you. Nice goodbye gift there.

But Crazy Ex-Girlfriend did get an Emmy nomination for a song called “We Tapped That Ass”… so you’re welcome, America!

CBS will air the Emmys live at 5 p.m. PT on Sept. 17.

well that's a long list! yet..how in this world Mandy didn't get a nom? she like, carries the entire show basically. Glad for Milo!

So glad for Thandie getting a WestW nom; wished Ed Harris and even Jimmi Simpson had gotten some too over the deadpan acting of Anthony Hopkins on the show but oh well, what are ya gunna do. :P

Very difficult that Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie cat! all did a great job but I am rooting for Nic 8-)

How come Winona didn't get one nom somewhere?

Glad Penny dreadful got a few noms at least. :-?

The award has to have some sort of high quality material like Gold, Silver, Crystal, Diamonds for me to care. A surfboard doesn't cut it.

I was excited for this years Emmy's as Game of Thrones was absent and there was no clear frontrunner, so I was expecting a variety of winners. However, it ended up being so boring with Big Little Lies and The Handmaid's Tale sweeping everything. I haven't seen the shows so can't comment on their quality, but I was really expecting winners from multiple shows.
Rest In Peace Lilly!

Bit gutted for This Is Us missing out on a lot. Happy for Big Little Lies and, as much as I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus, I'd like to see someone else win.

Haven't seen most of the movies yet, as they still need to be released over here but always happy to see Queen Chastain get a nomination! Am watching Mudbound at the moment, so happy to see Mary up there as well.

Yes @ Queen Margot getting a major nomination. It seems Saoirse is the favourite in that category through.

TV noms are dull and a replica of the Emmys.
