Spotify forecasts 92-96M paying users by year-end

Spotify has just published its financial outlook for the full year 2018, and says that it expects to have between 92M and 96M paid subscribers by the end of the year.

Despite the impressive-sounding number, that would represent a slowing of recent growth. Revenue grew by 39% in 2017, but the company expects this year’s growth to be in the 20-30% range.“

This is not just about Spotify but all the streaming platforms:

"The new criteria for French certifications of singles:
Gold - 15 million streams-equivalent (10M before)
Platinum - 30 million streams-equivalent (20M before)
Diamond - 50 million streams-equivalent (35M before)

As a reminder, 1 download = 150 streams-equivalent."

It seems to me that the more a record gets broken, the less talented the artist gets. :-?

This will mostly benefit Apple, right?

Does it mean that a Youtube music video stream is worth as much as a free Spotify stream now?

Every stream was the same until now. And yes, Apple and Tidal will be the ones who benefit the most and I don’t blame them. Tbh, this is how they should have done the “equivalent single/album units” formule since the beggining...

The streamery claimed 170m monthly active users (MAUs) at quarter's end, a 30% year-over-year spike, with 75m premium subscribers (+45%), in line with guidance. MAUs for the ad-supported tier numbered 99m (+21%)...”

A pre-registration question about Spotify: can you create public playlists, or only you can view them? I've not used the service and my dad doesn't know the answer to this -.-

Streaming in Spain Surges to Nearly 75% of All Music Sales

Music streaming in Spain has surged to almost three quarters of all music sales, according to a new report from Spanish music industry association Promusicae, which compiles Spain’s weekly music charts.

In the first six months of 2018, streaming income rose 73.5 percent, with subscription income increasing 53 percent compared to a year ago in the same period...

While subscriptions have risen remarkably in Spain since the beginning of this year, free ad-supported streaming has notably fallen. According to Promusicae, ad-supported streaming took in 8.4 million euros in the first half of 2018, compared to 21.8 million in the first half of 2017, a fall of almost 62 percent.“
