When it was released last year Rise Of The Tomb Raider was an Xbox One exclusive, but that deal has now run out and it’ll be released on PlayStation 4 on October 11 this year (the same day as Xbox One exclusive Gears Of War 4, which we’re sure is not a coincidence).
It’ll be the same basic game as before, plus all the previously released DLC, but will include a new story chapter named Blood Ties and a new co-op Endurance mode. There’ll also be support for PlayStation VR, and the chance to play as Lara as he looked back in the original games.
As you can guess from the new subtitle, Square Enix is tying it into the franchise’s 20th anniversary – which is on October 25. As such there’ll also be a limited edition of the game with its own art book.
Before Xbox One and PC owners get up in arms though all the new content will be released for free to anyone with an existing season pass. Which presumably means you’ll have to buy it if you don’t have one.
The Blood Ties chapter appears to be the only element that will feature PlayStation VR support, as you get to explore Croft Manor in first person view. There’s also something about defending it from a zombie invasion in ‘Lara’s Nightmare’ mode.
The co-op options are separate to the main story and allows you to play the existing Endurance mode with another player; working together to survive, fight enemies, and collect fuel and food.
Other additions include a new ‘Extreme Survivor’ difficultly setting for the story mode, where you can’t even save the game unless you gather enough resources to light campfires.
Finally, there’ll be a new outfit based on the cold weather gear from Tomb Raider III, and new Expedition Cards that will let you to play as five different versions of Lara dating back all the way to the original 1996 character model. All of which sounds… pretty great.
Released for PS4 on October 11 2016.
