Apple Refreshes the Entire MacBook Line Up, and I'm Pissed

Image

Apple’s big developer conference, WWDC, is usually not the place for hardware updates, but as Tim Cook said at the beginning of WWDC 2017, “This is the biggest WWDC ever.” To that end Apple announced upgrades to nearly every single product in its computer line up, and thoroughly **** over every single person who bought a MacBook Pro back in November.

Things started off nicely enough. Apple announced an update to the iMac, with discrete AMD graphics cards coming to every 4K iMac that are powerful enough to let you enjoy the HTC Vive VR headset. There were also additional Thunderbolt 3 ports and a processor improvement: The newest iMacs will run Kaby Lake.

If you’ve heard Kaby Lake discussed in relation to Apple, it’s because Apple has skipped Kaby Lake in the past. Notoriously when Apple refreshed its laptop line last year, for the first time in two years, it skipped out on Kaby Lake.

Now it’s updated every single laptop and desktop to Kaby Lake. This is a huge improvement for iMacs and the MacBook, but it’s deeply deeply annoying for those of us who bought the newly redesigned MacBook Pro back in November. Particularly as these new Kaby Lake machines are cheaper as well.

The only bright side, for early adopters, is that Kaby Lake mobile processors aren’t always that much faster than Skylake processors—something Gizmodo learned when pitting the Skylake Macbook Pro against Kaby Lake machines from Razer and Dell.

While these kind of processor refreshes are very common with other computer makers, Apple has always been very slow to embrace processor updates. In fact, it’s long been part of the “Apple Tax” (alongside the higher price Apple computers demand). So, from an early adopter who hoped she had at least a year before you refreshed and made her device obsolete—goddammit!

I swear everytime I see these prices I feel sick.
They're out of their mind.
But as long as people will keep paying, I guess they will continue to rise those prices up.

They didn't actually 'raise' prices though, as pro all-in-ones are a completely new product category for Apple. If you put together a Windows computer with the same specs, it'd be just as expensive. HP's is $7000 even.

There's no one is this world spec-enthusiastic that doesn't want to upgrade their machine in the future, so who's going to buy this non-upgradable product??

I want it. Kinda already regret buying the 7 last year, but my 5S was literally dying so I didn't have a choice.

We are just a couple of hours away from the new lineup up of iPhone products!

Here's what to expect:

The 7 and 7Plus refresh to come with glass backs and having the wireless charging ability.

The new iPhone with S-AMOLED bezel-less screen (made by Samsung), dual lens camera and the elimination of the traditional home-key replaced by the FaceID feature.

Now lets see how it goes :)

As expected they are now being unveiled with the same rumored details as it was previously suggested
Been reading UkMix everyday for well more than a decade now, and Here I am posting :)

I have mixed feelings, the regular iPhone 8s look the same as the 7s, and the only cool thing is the camera but the whole portrait mode only works o the 8 plus....

Also, I'm not a big fan of the gaming feature simply because I don't really play games on my phone

Idk...the X looks really cool but at the same time looks too much like an android phone...

Not sure which to get...I do need an upgrade already but I am not amazed buy the news phones :(

A bit odd of them to release an iPhone 8 and 10 but skip 9. I assume iPhone 9 will be released next year with the usual design, giving them a 2 year window to kill off the home button.

iPhone 10 looks strange but if it’s the way Apple is going, I best get on board. £1000 for a phone though :-?

The 8 is not so expensive, I expected the price to rise up once again...
Been having my 5s since 2014 and it's working perfectly, even tho storage is an issue as I only have 32Gb.

Now that the iPhone X is at the 1.100-1.300€ range, everyone feels like the iPhone 8 is cheap, an 800€ phone cheap.

Anyway, I already paid 1.020€ for an iPhone 7 Plus, people is freaking out about the 1k barrier, it's everything but new on Apple. Even the 2017 MacBook Pro with touch bar starts at 2.000€, Apple wants to be premium "again"

The iPhone X looks absolutely stunning. I hope an Android OEM can come up with something as good looking as that. The new Essential PH-1 comes close (at least from a design standpoint anyway) but its rubbish camera and lack of flagship features let it down.

I have a bit of an OCD and that top bezel on the X is annoying and it's kinda ugly too . I felt calmer after looking at the 8  :-?

Whoever buys an iPhone these days either has a lot of money they don't need or is unaware there are far better devices on Android.

And the iPhone 8... no words, I can't believe they're still recycling that look.

What do you mean for "there are far better devices on Android"?

Because having more GB of RAM is not equal as "better". I work for a cloud computing/marketing company and still didn't find a OS more integrated and fluid than Apple's. This is not a secret, If you value your time Apple is the way to go, but hey, even If you want to spend $1,200 on a phone just to use iMessage/WhatsApp I'm ok with that. Who cares.

Exactly that.

Both the Note 8 and V30 are far more capable devices than any iPhone, I'd go so far as to say they can replace a laptop in most situations.

The only advantage the iPhone has is timely updates, that's the one thing Android has to work on (solved if you consider the Nexus/Pixel line-up).

This is the iPhone 8, bar a few upgrades, it's the same design as the iPhone 6 from 2014, no one can say the experience has changed drastically. iOS has been the same for years now. These prices are a "crime". I have no problem with people spending their own money on what they want, but I'd never recommend it when you can have a superior experience with an android phone for half the price. These new features (like wireless charging, infinite display, OLED screens) have been on android devices for years.

I’ve had Samsung Galaxy’s and now iPhone. I honestly don’t miss system or my personal apps crashing on me. In the last 3yrs, I’ve had Apple apps crash probably about 3-5 times. On my Android phone, they use to crash multiple times daily. I find Apple apps and devices much more solid. I find Android doesn’t care what people post on their stores. So long as it can be downloaded.

Also, Apple proves that more ram etc does not equal better performance. Size doesn’t matter. It’s how you use it. You know, like that thing between your legs
