I thought a week ago that Kate Todd's "You're Gonna Find Out" would probably climb to #1 this week, unless some new great song showed up. But no, while it's likely close, Maia manages to stay ahead once again.

A great new song did show up, but I didn't hear it for the first time until late Saturday night and it wasn't enough to get higher than #3 (although it probably could have gotten to #1 in that time if it had been super amazing). Dove Cameron is back! She gets her eighth hit on my chart (see chart history below), and the fourth one to reach the top 3, while her duet partner Sofia Carson is charting for the first time.

Bubblers:
These are songs that have not yet charted, are at most 30 positions behind the chart and closer now than last week, listed in alphabetical order.

Emma Stevens – Written in the Stars S

Relatively unknown English singer/songwriter Emma Stevens enters at #2 with her newly released third album To My Roots. Her last album Waves spent seven weeks at #1 on my chart in late 2014 – early 2015. It's too soon to tell whether this new one will achieve something similar. (I had very little time to check out new albums this week so I picked just this one; hence I haven't yet heard Lana Del Rey's new album.)

That’s what I know/like this week… :)

Impressed to see Chelsea’s “Paralyzed” still in the Top10 after all this time, same for her EP. Meanwhile, I’m actually surprised to see Cappa’s “Nirvana” and her EP having only spent these few weeks on your charts. Somehow I thought they were much bigger and showed a much better longevity, but I guess I was wrong.

Poppy is weird, but in a good way. I already checked out her EP when it was charting on your album charts and liked it. She even made the biggest newspaper in Switzerland this week due to her ‘hype’ and weird videos

Very glad Lena made your weekly Top10 with “If I Wasn’t Your Daughter”. Quite a shame streaming destroyed her chances of getting a hit in Germany with that track

Fingers crossed for an entry on the main chart for “Fetish” next week…

I am not too sold on new Lights' stuff but it still managed to make it into my chart for a little while. Nice music video though

Thanks for commenting Tansike and heppolo!

When I first saw your comment I was going to reply that most likely "Paralyzed" would stay in the top 10 for the remaining ten weeks as well, but look (see the next post) what happened... Do you have some sort of magical cursing power over my chart?

23 (now 24) weeks is still a lot more than "a few" though, and there are many songs I consider amazing that spent fewer than 25 weeks total on the chart (of course not including songs I discovered too late or those too new to have had the possibility to reach that number). Since 2013, only 36 songs spent 25 or more weeks on the chart and "Nirvana" still has six weeks left so if it stays those weeks (quite likely as my top favourites usually get much stronger again when it's the same time of year as when they were new), it will reach 30 weeks which only 25 songs has done in the same period. But you're right that it's difficult to precict how a song will do on my chart in the long run only on how strong it is in the beginning, even for myself! For example, based on the first week I never would have guessed that "Aprés l'aurore" would be gone after 11 weeks (even though of course it could still return and reach 52 total) and "Du' kærlighed for mig" would spend (at least) 23 consecutive weeks in the top 2 (it was only #10 the first week)!

Tansike wrote:Poppy is weird, but in a good way. I already checked out her EP when it was charting on your album charts and liked it. She even made the biggest newspaper in Switzerland this week due to her ‘hype’ and weird videos
Interesting, didn't know she was that "famous" :). Her songs seem to be quite uneven though; she released a new one called "Interweb" that most likely won't make my chart at all. But I really like her voice which makes it likely she will get additional hits (if she keeps releasing songs).

Tansike wrote:Very glad Lena made your weekly Top10 with “If I Wasn’t Your Daughter”. Quite a shame streaming destroyed her chances of getting a hit in Germany with that track
Yeah, like I mentioned somewhere else it's now my favourite song by her. I thought for a while it would be even bigger but it didn't turned out that way (technically not too late of course, but probably some kind of strong trigger would be needed for it to resurge).

Tansike wrote:Fingers crossed for an entry on the main chart for “Fetish” next week…
Hey, it worked! (Even with the rapping part and me not liking the video much.)

Interesting, for me it's the other way around. Didn't like her before (although I wasn't really paying attention).

Oops, MrRager commented too while I was writing the previous post! Thanks!

MrRager wrote:Nice to see Dove Cameron back! I like the song. It made my chart last week! I was gonna disown her like you do with Katy Perry after I heard her Genie In A Bottle.
 Yeah, I noticed it on your chart (haven't commented yet, wanted to check out a few songs first). Ha ha, I wouldn't be too upset if you did!

MrRager wrote:Whats with the Astrid S increase? :o
No particular reason; after listening to the EP "Breathe" started to sound fresh again and then that sort of made the other songs better too...

MrRager wrote:Nirvana is back smashing
Yup, or maybe not exactly "smashing" yet but who knows what will happen at the very end?

MrRager wrote:I also like that Bebe song! I assume you cut out the Lil Wayne Rap?
Didn't have to, there was an official rap-free solo version released on Spotify! I had actually forgotten all about the song until that version showed up.

MrRager wrote:But lets save the best till last.... AVRIL LAVIGNE.. dId you enjoy the album when going back to it??
I didn't listen to the full album, although I was actually thinking about doing that this week (before I got too preoccupied with another song), minus the two crappy ones of course... Alas, it fell to #21 this week but will surely return again soon.

30  (23) Strandels – If God Has a Plan (7 weeks, peak #5) S A

The top 30 for week 30 ending July 30th sees American actress and singer Dove Cameron join an exclusive group of six other artists with four or more #1s on my chart: Taylor Swift (4), Hayley Westenra (4), Kelly Clarkson (5), Brie Larson (6, all from one album released in 2005), Amy Diamond (7) and Avril Lavigne (7). The song is a disney ballad that doesn't exactly sound original (but still sounds great to me), although I guess it's a bit unusual with a duet between two females.

English singer/songwriter Emma Stevens gets two more hits from her new album, and with a strong climb from last weeks's "Loyalty" she suddenly has three songs in the top 10, in that regard matching her performance from week 50-51 2014. Kate Todd still has the edge though with four songs in the top 10. It's not too often these days that two artists hold 70 percent of the top 10.

Also from the UK is singer/songwriter Megan Davies who just released her first EP with original songs and gets her first hit on my chart with the song "Black and White" (and possibly more to come next week). Technically it's also a debut on the chart for Canadian Matthew Good, who enters at #26 with "Decades". His voice has been heard once before though in the song "Hello Time Bomb" by Matthew Good Band which charted one week, well, not decades ago, but one and a half... (January 2002). Selena Gomez also enters with her current single and gets her first hit since "It Ain't Me" (which was less than half a year ago, so no chart history listing).

"Paralyzed" by Chelsea Lankes, the song which had previously been extremely stable, rarely outside the top 6 and never outside the top 10, suddenly drops to #12, ruining its chances of becoming the first song since "Haunted Heart" (2013) to spend all 53 weeks in the top 10. This is more due to increased competition and random bad luck than actual weekness though, so I still predict 53 weeks in the top 30 and probably in the upper half, i.e. top 15.

Bubblers:
These are songs that have not yet charted, are at most 30 positions behind the chart and closer now than last week, listed in alphabetical order.
Julia Michaels – Just Do It S
Julia Michaels – Make It Up to You S
Julia Michaels – Pink S
Julia Michaels – Worst in Me S
Megan Davies – Bad Poetry S
Megan Davies – Only Us S
Megan Davies – Walk Away S
Sara Evans – All the Love You Left Me S A
Sara Evans – Long Way Down S L

Dropouts:
-- (22) Astrid S – Does She Know (3 weeks, peak #21) S
-- (24) Kristina Maria – Gone in a Minute (7 weeks, peak #10) S
-- (27) McKenna Faith – Heartstealer (2 weeks, peak #27) S
-- (28) Helene Fischer – Schon lang nicht mehr getanzt (6 weeks, peak #3) A
-- (29) Alma – Après l'aurore (11 weeks, chart run 1-1-1-1-1-3-10-12-28-29-29-out) S A

The song that actually felt like "song of the year" in the very beginning, "Aprés l'aurore" by French singer Alma, leaves the chart after just 11 weeks and a rather unique chart run. It is 99 (or so) percent certain to return at some point though.

20  (RE) Carola – Steg för steg (1984) (144 weeks, peak #4)

Two albums/EPs enter in the top 5: Megan Davies's debut EP and the new album from country singer Sara Evans. It's her eighth studio album but actually the first one I've listened to in full so she too appears for the first time (she charted once on the songs chart, in 2005 with "A Real Fine Place to Start"). This isn't too surprising though considering I've listened much more to country the last few years than before.

Two high profile new releases get rather weak entries at #13 and #14. Both suffer from a low breadth factor due to a song that already got a lot of plays ("Issues" and "Love" respectively) and, at least so far, nothing else being able to match those songs.

Bonus Track
There is a song not impacting any of the charts that got a very high amount of plays during the week. I discovered it thanks to the Forum Song Contest (thanks to member Affillate). Alas, it was released in 2010 so it's not (even close to) eligible for the songs chart (and I haven't listened to the album it's on). That does not stop it from sounding like a prototypical #1 smash:

Bryan Rice featuring Julie – Curtain Call (2010) S

The top 3 is unchanged just like last week. Kate Todd now has both the #1 song and the #1 album (EP). American singer and actress Skyler Day enters at #5 with her newly released EP Los Angeles. It's the first time she's charting (although her first EP that was released in 2014 most likely would have if the chart rules had allowed 5-track EPs at that time).

Hey I forgot to comment on your previous chart but it was nice to see Dove back at no.1 :D

3   (1) Dove Cameron & Sofia Carson – Space Between
10   (9) Astrid S – Breathe
12  (12) Chelsea Lankes – Paralyzed
14  (14) Samantha Harvey – Forgive Forget

23  (27) Selena Gomez featuring Gucci Mane – Fetish

That Skyler Day Same Blood song sounds ok, well her voice does anyway. I might check out some of her other stuff.

I liked that Bebe Song! Her newest song is trash though!

That Wrenn song is good!

Thanks for commenting this week, saved me from two consecutive weeks with zero comments which would have been a first. 8-)

I'm glad you think it's at least ok. It will have a great second week on my chart... I almost forgot about the other songs on the EP but will most likely pay some more attention to them this week.

Agreed, the entire EP kinda sucks except for that one song (and on the EP it's the wrong version).

Glad you like it! I discovered it thanks to Tony's chart.

Yeah, it was "underrated" the week before due to being discovered late in the week. This happens a lot now that most songs are released on Fridays and I often don't start listening to them until Saturday or Sunday. (Actually, it's even worse because lately I haven't bothered to check for new songs more than once a week.)

MrRager wrote:That Wrenn song got even better for me! But who is she??
Great! Don't really know anything about her though... Try asking Tony!

MrRager wrote:How long has Cappa got left? I remember it was around this time last year I discovered it in your charts!
It does feel like it's been a full year already but that's because the weather was unusually nice here in September last year! I heard it for the first time on 15th September. That was two weeks before "Paralyzed" which has six weeks left, so four weeks for "Nirvana" (after week 33).

MrRager wrote:What do you think of Kelly's Stronger album?
It's her best album for me, although it doesn't have the best song (which is "My Life Would Such Without You") and didn't make it to #1 on the albums chart (due to being blocked by Amy Diamond).

Nice for Aly & Aj! I thought by the comment you made about it, it wouldn't chart. Did it grow on you?

Can Cappa get to the Top 10 again before she disappears?

Amy Diamond is back smashing! Is it still your fav album ever?

Taylor doesn't like you!

Yes (I can tolerate the chorus now).

Yes (or at least highly likely).

Yes.

She'll like me again after the album release! (I hope)

Kate Todd's country song "You're Gonna Find Out" joins the group of songs that have spent five consecutive weeks at #1. Since spring 2015 (Dove Cameron – As Long As I Have You) no song has spent more than five consecutive weeks there. Since the start of 2016 there are now more songs (five) with five weeks than with four (four songs) which is a bit unusual.

"Du' kærlighed for mig" is back at #2 for the second week. It stopped at 25 consecutive weeks in the top 2 (still the sixth longest run there ever) but has now spent 28 consecutive weeks in the top 3 which is the fourth longest run ever there (currently tied with two other songs at exactly 28 weeks).

Three of the four new entries from last week have a great second week, with "Ember" climbing from #7 to #3, "Take Me" from #17 to #4 and "Think Before I Talk" from #16 to #7. Maybe this week's three new entris will do something similar next week? Sofia Carson gets her first solo hit with her new single "Ins and Outs", "Stephanie Quayle" follows up "Drinking with Dolly" with a track from her newly released album and Jana Kramer returns with her new single "I've Done Love" (see chart history below).

20  (11) Caroline Kole – Caroline Kole (2016) (4 weeks, peak #9)

Kate seems even more unstoppable here than on the songs chart, despite her 4-track EP having to compete with full-length albums. Maybe Stephanie Quayle can challenge her next week; her album got going late in the week and is almost certain to perform more strongly next week.

Despite flopping with her single, I'm still excited about Taylor Swift's new album and that is one of the major reasons why lots of songs on 1989 got multiple plays this week.

That’s what I know and like this week. Impressed by the jump for Aly & AJ. Their song is quite good, but it didn’t caught my attention as much as I expected. Still excited for the album.

Really pleased to see “Schönster Moment” so high, as it’s probably my favorite song of “Regenbogen” now :o They’d be crazy if they won’t release it as a single, it’s so catchy and I love its melody.
Chelsea’s longevity is impressive, soon another song with a whole year on your charts, wow!

As for the albums, I guess that’s Taylor’s “1989” – why did you write down her name like this?

I didn't like it that much at first, at least not the chorus. I still think the verses are much better than the chorus and despite the #4 position I would not rank it as one of their best songs.

Cool that we have the same favourite on the album! This was my clear favourite from the first time I listened to the album and despite not reaching the top 3 it was actually rather close to #1 the first two weeks; i.e. the top 3 songs were only a little bit ahead (I think!).

Tansike wrote:Chelsea’s longevity is impressive, soon another song with a whole year on your charts, wow!
Yeah, I can't get enough of that song and it will probably get even stronger the last few weeks (it will lose one position this week, but actually gained 50% score) . And there's another one more than halfway that looks like an even more sure 53-weeker than "Paralyzed" was at that point.

Tansike wrote:As for the albums, I guess that’s Taylor’s “1989” – why did you write down her name like this?
That's how they write her name in Russia, and I'm currently studying Russian so I thought this was an interesting "joke". I thought about also writing 1989 as Tысяча девятьсот восемьдесят девятый but decided to save that for another time...

It happened again! With no new super strong song at the moment, Maia's amazing ballad "Du' kærlighed for mig" floats back up to the top. It's the fourth time it returns to #1 (two more needed to reach the record held by Lauren Rose – I Go to the Beach from 2007-2008) and when it wasn't #1 it never went lower than #3, except the very first week (see graph below). And now there is finally a new single from the same singer. Can she take both #1 and #2 next week?

If you've been following my chart in this thread here on UKMix (without checking the Archive thread) you have never seen Taylor Swift on my songs chart before! She last charted in December 2014 (four months before I started posting); the later single releases from 1989 had no effect on my chart as those songs had already charted earlier and I was a bit tired of them at that point. She also flopped with the Zayn collaboration and with "Look ...". But now she finally released a new song that I really like and "...Ready for It?" enters at #13. That's her 56th song to reach my chart. She's ahead of Amy Diamond (54) and Hayley Westenra (53) in that regard (despite them being far ahead in total plays) but still behind Avril Lavigne (67 songs). See chart history below.

A surprise new entry at #1! I didn't know a week ago that this album was coming, only noticed it Friday when it was released. And despite no song from it currently being in the top 30, the effect of lots of songs (15, not including an acoustic version of "Waldbrand" which I still count as beloning to its EP from last year) that all got a decent amount of plays (as seen by the bubblers list above) is apparent here.

Last week's highest new entry, Maia's new single "Tusind ord" ("a thousand words"), climbs to #1 this week, narrowly defeating Cappa's "Nirvana" which surges to #2 on its very last week eligible. It's the first time since early last year (Wolkenfrei) that an artist is #1 for two successive weeks with different songs.

Also from Denmark and also singing in Danish, Kat Stephie enters at #9 with "Uden dig" ("without you"), a song that appeared in the bubblers list 11 weeks ago and was released in March, so it has taken its time. This brings the singer out of "one hit wonder" territory; she had previously only had one song on my chart, which was nearly a YEC top 20 hit in 2013 and the most successful song in Danish before 2017, "Tonsvis af kærlighed" ("tons of love").

After having trouble telling all the tracks apart last week, I have now found a favourite on Madeline Juno's new album, "Zeitlupe" ("slow motion") which enters at #19.

Bubblers:
These are songs that have not yet charted, are at most 30 positions behind the chart and closer now than last week, listed in alphabetical order.
Camila Cabello – Crying in the Club S V
Ina Wroldsen & Broiler – Lay It on Me (2016) S V
Madeline Juno – Still S V

Dropouts:
-- (26) Kate Todd featuring Joey Landreth – Just the Same (9 weeks, peak #8) S
-- (28) Vanessa Mai – Unbekannter Engel (4 weeks, peak #25) S A

19  (RE) McKenna Faith – Heartstealer [EP] (8 weeks, peak #3)
20  (RE) Bailey Bryan – So Far [EP] (14 weeks, peak #3)

So, this is slightly embarrasing... The singer who has been destroying my songs chart since February released an EP Friday and I only found out about it today . It is still able to enter the chart at #4 though, because in addition to "Du' kærlighed for mig" and "Tusind ord" it also contains "Tordenkys" ("thunder kiss") which was released last year and while that song was a flop (never entered my songs chart), it still has enough plays to make the EP eligible based on those three songs. We'll see how much higher it can climb next week when I have also listened to the two new songs.

Swings and Roundabouts celebrates its 300th week (total, not consecutive) in the top 20 by dropping from #10 to #16.

I am really surprised to see Madeline Juno on your chart! Personally, I dislike her latest stuff and I prefer her English tracks but sadly, it seems that German female pop artists releasing English songs have to struggle for years now and Sarah Connor, Madeline Juno, Jeanette and even Lena, they try their luck with German.

I like to see your Danish FSC entry, Taylor and even Vanessa Mai on your chart ;)
