would love a guitar album from her. I know it's never gonna happen, but who knows, maybe she'll try out everything possible and end up making a folky record
It would be so great to have a more acoustic record! I believe something like this is possible, but in Björk's fashion (think of stuff like I See Who You Are and Moon, maybe).

I envy you so much! I'll maybe buy that maxi Yoga cd single, the one with 11 tracks!

#03 Undo

Image

It's warmer now lean into it
Unfold in a generous way
Surrender
Surrender
Undo
Undo

It's not meant to be a strife
It's not meant to be a struggle uphill

Undo is my favourite cut from Vespertine, and the message of the song is unusually clear for Björk: you are not meant to struggle with life, and if you are, you just need to "release" and undo. What fascinates me most about the song is the arrangement: the song starts quiet and builds up in a climax that reaches its apex at 3:35, with an explosion of vocals that repeat the leitmotiv of the song ("It's not meant to be a strife") at full power. It then revolves around itself in an anticlimax where another line is repeated but quietly ("I'm praying to be in a generous mood"), thus embodying her desire to undo and get rid of all the struggle.

for some reason, I've always thought Undo was about sex  but more like sex tied with trust and fear and other feelings

it's one of my fave Bjork songs, sublime in every way
Ја кријам главата под шалот.
Само на веѓите ми се гледа
дека мислам на тебе.

Time to catch up!

"Stonemilker" is amazing and definitely a highlight of "Vulnicura". I'd even say it's my second favorite track, only behind "Black Lake". So a very well deserved high position.

Didn't know "Hyperballad" until a few days ago, as i checked out "Post", and "Hyperballad" is clearly one of the best tracks of that album, so another song that i like a lot and i think its position is deserved too.

I don't know the song at #4, but "Undo" at #3 is a little surprise. Well, it's a good song obviously, but not one of my faves from her.

Thank you for your comments guys! Vespertine is such a great album of hers :D
I also used to think Undo was about sex, but it may be one of the layers of the songs indeed.
I'm happy you liked Hyperballad, Tansike!

And now, time for the runner-up!

#02 Desired Constellation

Image

It's tricky when you feel someone
Has done something on your behalf
It's slippery when your sense of justice
Murmurs underneath and is asking you

How am I going to make it right?

This may shock a few people here, but this is one of those few songs where I just think "this is my life". I spent nights and nights with my eyes closed, listening to this song with my earphones on the bed. It's a typical song I hear when I am sad or upset, or I am just wishing for something good to appear, like a desired constellation. The song narrates the wish to find balance with yourself and with another person, who has done something in your interest but that turned out to be excruciating for you. Thus, the lyrical I compares this desire to throwing dices, in an (im)possible attempt to find the right combination between two things that can't really fit. Another fascinating thing about the song is how its instrumentation came to be: Medúlla is an album entirely composed of vocals, and to create the synths of Desired Constellation, Björk took the vocals from a line of her own song Hidden Place ("I'm not sure what to do with it") interpolating them into an atmospheric haze.

Yassss Haska, I'm happy a non-fan likes one of my favourite Björk songs! If you need some advice I can tell you what you need to check to get into her holy catalogue :D (I feel like mrlemonade trying to convert people to Torn Anus)

And now, time to reveal my favourite Björk song!

#01 Unravel

Image

While you are away
My heart comes undone
Slowly unravels
In a ball of yarn
The devil collects it
With a grin
Our love
In a ball of yarn

He'll never return it

So when you come back
We'll have to make new love

"I'm trying to get Radiohead to do a cover because I think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard." (Thom York, 2006)
This song is one of the reasons (the main reason, actually) why Homogenic is one of my favourite albums ever and my favourite Björk album. Lyrically simple, the song portrays a ball of yarn as a metaphor of love with another person. Every time the person is away, the ball unravels and the threads are taken away by some negative force (the devil). To keep love alive, one has to recreate it and nourish it every time (perhaps in a way that is similar to the constant "resurrection" described in the lyrics of Hyperballad). Sonically, the song mixes electronic beats with saxophones and a church organs, and the singing technique used by Björk has been described by folklore specialist Njall Sigurason as an attempt to recreate that of an Old Icelanding choir.

I hope you all enjoyed my countdown and I thank you for following it. Hope you'll like my #1, it's one of the songs that I hold dearest to my heart

Undo is wonderful - nice film used on the video you posted.

Desired Constellation great.

Unravel is phenomenal and in my top 10 (maybe 5) for sure. It's too short - i remember playing it on repeat a billion times when i got the album!
