10. Duran Duran - Serious
9. Bette Midler - From a Distance
8. Celine Dion - Where Does My Heart Beat Now

Three great tracks. It was a hard to put them so low! Bette was one of my brother's fav, Duran Duran are amazing and this is probably Celine's best song.

7. Linda Ronstadt feat. Aaron Neville - Don't Know Much
What a beautiful song. I can feel 80s ballads sneaking in into the new decade.

6. Angelo Badalamenti - Twin Peaks Theme
Whoever saw Twin Peaks will understand this sng being nominated and placing this high.

5. Mariah Carey - Vision of Love
4. Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise

Mariah's debut may be too low, but to be honest I feel the rest are better and classics. Phil's ADIP is outstanding. Anyway, all songs in the top 5 were at one point winners while I was preparing this.

3. Sinéad O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Beautiful video, her voice is touching, great cover, medal worthy.

2. Madonna - Vogue
Another fantastic video. I A fantastic pop song. Madonna has sooooo many classics!

1. Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
90-91-92 was all about Roxette at home. I was addicted, I learned english with them, and Pretty Woman was on at home like every week.

Image

6. George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1
The first two songs are amazing: Praying for Time and Freedom! '90. Then the album loses some points imo.

5. Bette Midler - Some People's Lives
From A Distance is by far the best expression here, but it was a good album overall and a sentimental nominee.

4. Angelo Badalamenti - Soundtrack from Twin Peaks
Every single chord in this albums gives me chills. Laura Palmer's Theme, Audrey's Dance, The Nightingale, Freshly Sqeezed, Into The Night (hypnotic) and Falling (similar to TP Theme but with lyrics)

3. Madonna - I'm Breathless
I find it a fresh album in her discography. I was not a big fan of the movie, but there are great tracks here: He's A Man, Sooner or Later, Hanky Panky (!), Something To Remember (beautiful), Back In Business, What Can You Lose (a gem!), Now Im Following You and, of course, Vogue.

2. Mariah Carey - Mariah Carey
A very solid debut album, deserves the praise and love. She evolved from this initial sound & style.

1. Sinéad O'Connor - I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got
I had no doubt this would be the best album of this year in this category. ALL songs are great, hard to choose highlights. Feel So Different is a fantastic album opener, with a powerful opening line:
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change
Courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference"

Three Babies is heartbreaking, and her voice is so soft there, then The Emperor's New clothes ("They laugh `cause they know they're untouchable Not because what I said was wrong Whatever it may bring I will live by my own policies I will sleep with a clear conscience"), Black Boys On Mopeds and then the perfect album closer, The Last Day Of Our Acquaintance

U are sooo right about Kraftwerk!!! Dont remember how it got to my 1991 list! It was re-released??? Too late now, it is and will always be in my heart as a 1991 song so it sticks here.

Shit, 1991 was epic in that category, look at the nominees! We should do a 1991 Album Cup, Leo!

I guess The Black Album is winning, from what you told me it's a favorite of yours.

I know! 1991 was massive in the alt category. The list of non-nominees is scary too.

Winners are still not decided, Metallica was a clear winner when I was preparing the nominations, which was the time I wrote to you, but as I keep rechecking albums while I prepare the banners and everything now I don't know what to do! lol
Once I reach the point of posting winners I'll make up my mind, but Metallica is indeed a strong candidate

Vapour Trail is pretty nice, just checked it.

The radio was playing Losing My Religion while I was coming home and I kept lingering in the steps to enjoy it, so overplayed but still so good!

Wikipedia wrote:Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s and 2000s. In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music.

So, Guns, Metallica and Scorpions cannot be alternative, they are just Rock.

I'd like to add some alternative sounds from that year
Chapterhouse - Mesmerise - probably my #1 single of 1991, one of the first attempts to make shoegazing sound commercially acceptable
Curve - Clipped - Tony Halliday and her charismatic personality (1992 was even better for this amazing band)
Dr Phibes and the House of Wax Equations - Hazy Lazy Hologram - love the amazing production of this song
Moose - Suzanne
David Kilgour - You Forget

The thing is that for me alternative music is also related to music that dont fit another genres, and heavy metal/hard rock is not necesary rock to me, so I placed them as "alt". Probalby makes no sense but it is what it is

Ill check later the links you guys are sharing! keep doing that!
