Yes, another chart of the year!
You're probably all sick of them by now but how is mine different??
Well its heavy on the urban side but there are a few surprises in there!

I'm gonna start it on the 7th of December (2 songs a day until the Top 10 revealing the no. 1 on Dec 31st) and in the meantime (since I've never done an end of year chart), I'm gonna show you my lists from previous years!
This will be of no use to those who have read my personal chart thread, but its just a bit of fun anyway. :D

40. Verbalicious - Don't Play Nice

Image

Kicking off my Top 40 Fave songs of 2005, its Verbalicious from March this year!
I first heard this song on Radio 1 when they had a whole day of just playing British music. I turned on the radio halfway through and mistook it for Salt n Pepa! It had their dirty beat sound and spitting rhyme.
Very underrated floorfiller, it seems to be a one hit wonder (wasn't even really a hit). Hopefully, young female rapper Verbalicous can come back with something better next year!

Released: March
Highest Chart Position: 11

-------------------------------------------------

39.
Oasis - The Importance of Being Idle

Image

The second single from Oasis's much-anticipated album, this was a surprise number 1 for them!
After Lyla knocked off Akon off the top, no-one thought this big bangin' tune would go the same position.
Sounding very 70's, this anthem also has one of the best videos of the year!

Released: September
Highest Chart Position: 1

38. Girls Aloud - Biology

Image

Probably my most guilty pleasure in music, Girls Aloud land at no. 38!
From when I first heard Sound of the Underground, I was a fan. Their 21st Century Pop sound is unlike anything else anyone is putting out. They might sing alot of covers but also churn out original songs like this pop ditty from late this year!
The song switches between a blues-style start "Why don't you call me, feed me, say you need me" to an electric sounding chorus that doesn't slow down for a second! "You can't mistake my Biology!"
Bring on 2006 ladies!

Released: November
Highest Chart Position: 4

-------------------------------------------------

37. Doves - Black and White Town

Image Image

A band (or style of music) I'm not familiar with, its a surprise entry for the Doves!
Becoming one of my most played songs at the start of the year, the drums are pounding from the word go before the song explodes into a mix of thuds, beats, bangs and some of the best vocals seen this year.
Easy to let yourself go in this tune, I always love it when a band surprises me and makes me reach out my musical tastes!

Released: February
Highest Chart Position: 6

You see, Plym... you have very unpredictable taste... that's why I couldn't predict your #1 the other day... Doves, Usher, and Oasis? Cooool!

I have a feeling someone "emanicipated" will be your #1...

Great to see Oasis in the year-end chart of an Urban fan!! And it's not the first year they're there!!

The other 3 so far are great as well, so keep'em coming!!

36. 2Pac ft. Elton John - Ghetto Gospel

Image

2Pac's songs are usually hit (Letter 2 My Unborn, Runnin) or miss (Changes) for me but this was somewhere in the middle!
Taken from the Loyal to the Game album, it featured Elton John (!) on vocals and shocked everyone by entering the charts at #1 and sitting pretty for a good few weeks.
I soon got sick of it though and its the unoffical Chav Anthem of 2005. Shame.

Released: July
Highest Chart Position: 1

-------------------------------------------------

35. Kanye West - Gold Digger

Image

I'm a huge fan of Kanye so he was bound to be in this thread sooner or later!
The second single from Late Registration, this was a MASSIVE summer club hit that had everybody the "over-the-shoulder" whenever it came on. It was also Kanye's biggest hit just missing out on #1!
We've not seen the last of him in this chart though!

Released: July
Highest Chart Position: 2

Woohoo for Verbalicious, Oasis (one of their few songs I actually like though), Girls Aloud and Doves.

I did used to like the Kanye West track, but since it's been horrifically overplayed it's became really annoying.

34. Sugababes - Push the Button

Image

One of the UK's finest are up next - the Sugababes!
I've been a fan of theirs ever since Overload in 2000 and they even got my fave song of the year in 2002 as pointed out by chris975 above.
Push the Button was the lead single off their 4th album and a big hit for the girls. Even my mother liked it.
And we certainly haven't seen the last of them in this thread.

Released: October
Highest Chart Position: 1

-------------------------------------------------

33. Jem - They

Image

Another surprise from one of the years biggest stars!
I first heard They on Radio 1 and thought nothing of it. It definitely grew on me though!
With its haunting melody, whispy vocals and playful children samples, this was one of the most original songs of 2005.
I didn't really like anything she released afterward so didn't bother with the album.

Released: March
Highest Chart Position: 6

Both brill!

When I was compiling my chart, I missed off Jem - They accidentally (I only realised this yesterday). It would have easily made it in, such a great track.
