Hi all!

Well I thought I'd get in slightly ahead of the queue at least in getting this topic set up so people can have a go at some predictions.

In a change to previous years, any album track which is highly unlikely to make it to be a single next year I've included. Main reason is that there's not going to be too many that make it in, but some album tracks have been so much a part of my year, it felt wrong not to include them.

So, 12 songs in that poll, which one do you think will be my favourite song of 2006 though?

Knowing your weird taste, I went for one of the non-mainstream ones, aka Mr Hannon.
Let's have a second referendum

Nice to see you start Matthew. I remember last year that you're one of the great people that had James Blunt's masterpiece as #1. For sure this will prove to be another excellent one with 'Chasing Cars' having the best odds being #1 among the rest.

Will be closely watch your countdown.

Okay - let's begin.

Before I start, some honourable mentions. Anything that I knew and charted prior to 2006 doesn't count. Therefore, honourable mentions to the entire Michael Jackson back catalogue, James Blunt's "Wisemen" and the Oasis "Stop The Clocks EP" which comprises songs I've known for years.

200. G4 and Lesley Garrett - Barcelona
Barcelona was MADE for a G4 cover. A truly epic song and the opera group who covered Bo Rhap so well really deserved to do wonders to this song. For some reason, it doesn't really match up to expectations, and hence what could have been top 50 bows out at No. 200.

199. MVP - Bounce, Shake, Move, Stop
What? It's fun! Follow up to "Rock Ya Body (Mic Check 1,2)"

198. Magic Numbers - Take A Chance
A very decent comeback from the Numbers, if rather instantly recognisably them. However there's been much better this year.

197. Cassie - Long Way 2 Go
VERY unlike my music taste normally, I just really think this is a great song. Shows that even though stylistically it's totally not me, I can appreciate a great song!

196. Duncan James - Sooner Or Later
Okay - another you might not expect me to like. Duncan's career was unfairly panned, despite some very nice songs. Not anywhere near as high as "I Believe My Heart" got, for obvious reasons, and there's still more solo Blue to come.

195. Jamie Foxx featuring Kanye West - Extravaganza
What on earth? Yet more artists you wouldn't normally see me liking. Yet again, a song which is surprisingly good considering the artist concerned being one I normally hate!

194. Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down
Meh - they're overrated. Hence one of 2006's biggest rock acts crash out at 194 with their highest entry. Was a great song, but got boring quickly.

193. Kubb - Grow
Nice little song this one. Indie number that I don't really remember too well, but I know was rather a sweet little song.

192. Joey Negro - Make A Move On Me
Dave Lee had a great dance tune here, and it maybe didn't become the smash hit it was meant to be. Not my favourite genre, but there's a fair few dance tunes on this list.

191. Jamiroquai - Runaway
Aye - see Magic Numbers above. Great act, great song, but just a bit too much what you'd expect from their comeback.

190. Orson - No Tomorrow
Another somewhat overrated rock act, but again, this was a decent song. Highest entry for this lot as well.

189. Madonna - Jump
First of two songs to make my top 200 this year for Madonna. It's a decent slice of Madonna dance music, yeah.

188. KT Tunstall - Another Place To Fall
Somewhat low for KT Tunstall, but hardly her best single. Still, it's a nice song.

187. Amy Wadge - A Design For Life
The Woj - as she's affectionately known - is someone who I was introduced to by a fan, and her version of this classic is brilliant. Was an almost-single earlier on in the year, not sure if it ever did get released.

186. Zutons - It's The Little Things We Do
This is the fourth single going to be taken from the Zutons album, and frankly you can start to tell. Still, it's cool, and the other three are higher.

185. Panic! At The Disco - I Write Sins, Not Tragedies
Absolutely adored by some on UKMIX, but might make some worst lists as well. After all the UKMIX hype I checked it out, and yeah, it's a cool song.

184. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh)
Here go the Chili Peppers. Yes, their two bigger hits actually miss my top 200 in what has been a poor year quality wise for Chilis songs for me.

183. Kasabian - Shoot The Runner
Now the first of two for Kasabian here. "Empire" is much higher, just as long as I can remember how it goes!

182. Feeling - Kettle's On
So the first album track to make my list is this one from the Feeling. I've always thought this unusually titled song would make a decent single, but maybe on second thoughts, they've done better with "Love It When You Call".

181. Beautiful South - Never Lost A Chicken To A Fox
First track off "Superbi" to make this top 200. Been a great year for the Beautiful South, I say them live, I bought the album, and yeah, "Manchester" is one of the songs in contention to be my favourite song of 2006!

well, that's quick :o November's not even over and you're ready with your top 200 of the year.. I think my final date will be about December 20, few good songs may appear during the coming month

200. G4 and Lesley Garrett - Barcelona
haven't heard and I don't think I would like it
199. MVP - Bounce, Shake, Move, Stop
fun indeed, too far from being quality though.. still much better than "Roc Ya Body"
198. Magic Numbers - Take A Chance
as much as I hate them, I should admit this is a good song.. gonna feature in my top 100 most likely
197. Cassie - Long Way 2 Go
nope, that's bad
196. Duncan James - Sooner Or Later
that's OK
195. Jamie Foxx featuring Kanye West - Extravaganza
yeah, I kinda like it too
194. Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down
that wasn't so good, "Dance Dance" is much better
193. Kubb - Grow
higher for me
192. Joey Negro - Make A Move On Me
this, I assume will feature in my worst chart
191. Jamiroquai - Runaway
nice, but nothing special
190. Orson - No Tomorrow
tuneless.. liked their 2nd single more
189. Madonna - Jump
most likely the best single from "Confessions", but still not good enough
188. KT Tunstall - Another Place To Fall
very decent I should say
187. Amy Wadge - A Design For Life
NH
186. Zutons - It's The Little Things We Do
didn't remember it, checked... very nice :D
185. Panic! At The Disco - I Write Sins, Not Tragedies
still not sure about this song.. but definitely their only good one
184. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh)
agree with you about poor quality year for them.. like this one too
183. Kasabian - Shoot The Runner
I guess it will be higher for me
182. Feeling - Kettle's On
yeah, superb album track! love this song! and it would be a better single than "Love It When You Call"
181. Beautiful South - Never Lost A Chicken To A Fox
also needed to remind myself this song... also good, but the whole album is good, so no surprise here :D

very nice countdown, though some good stuff is too low :( keep going, Matthew, you have one of the best tastes around here

I think "Monster" is going to be your #1 for this year

These are some of the ones I know and like, but they're all too low :o
194. Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down
193. Kubb - Grow
192. Joey Negro - Make A Move On Me
189. Madonna - Jump
184. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh)

their two bigger hits actually miss my top 200 in what has been a poor year quality wise for Chilis songs for me.
I completely disagree with you on the chilis. I thought they had a great comeback and I can't believe they actually missed the top 200 :-?

Really good start there, Matt! Joey Negro is fantastic, and so are Madonna, KT Tunstall, The Magic Numbers and Duncan James, sorta. Cassie is surprising to see here :o and yes MVP and Jamie Foxx/Kanye West ARE fun! Disagree about the Red Hot Chili Peppers comment though - some good songs from them this year.

What can I say, I'm getting old  .

I'd beg to differ on the likes of Sparks and Ooberman at least though - particularly the Sparks ones which are about as far off the middle as you can get.

Others though, like Beautiful South, always were a very Radio 2 friendly pop act.

Yayness for KT, she'll be in my chart somewhere....

Oh & I hope Snow Patrol are #1, only cos I really like the song now....but I somehow have the feeling that it won't be.
Let's embrace the point of no return.

Too many charts to comment on... and I haven't even started mine yet.

198. Magic Numbers - Take A Chance
Not really that good.

197. Cassie - Long Way 2 Go
196. Duncan James - Sooner Or Later
195. Jamie Foxx featuring Kanye West - Extravaganza
Soooo boring, all three...

194. Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down
Wooo, here's one I like.

193. Kubb - Grow
192. Joey Negro - Make A Move On Me
Ditto.

190. Orson - No Tomorrow
Another cool song. This and Joey will be in my top 100 and quite high.

189. Madonna - Jump
188. KT Tunstall - Another Place To Fall
Not their best songs.

187. Amy Wadge - A Design For Life
Stick to the Manics.

185. Panic! At The Disco - I Write Sins, Not Tragedies
Very good. Higher in my chart.

183. Kasabian - Shoot The Runner
182. Feeling - Kettle's On
Kinda average.
Let's have a second referendum

Woo for the above especially TBS. That Kubb song seems so old now! Suprised to see Madonna, Cassie and Jamie Foxx in your chart :o I also agree with you about RHCP - disappointing stuff from them this time around.

180. Hard-Fi - Better Do Better
First of two entries on this list for 2005's big new stars Hard-Fi. How high is "Cash Machine"?

179. Automatic - Raoul
First of two Automatic entries in this list. Nothing comes close to "Monster", but with the second highest Automatic entry here, are those who predicted "Monster" to be my No. 1 just a bit worried? :P

178. Lemar - Someone Should Tell You
Why is it that every song Lemar sings is about loving someone who doesn't love him back. Such sad songs - I wonder whether he'll ever be in love, and whether his themes for his songs will change with it?

177. Placebo - Meds
Lovely angry sleazy rock track here from Placebo. Really cool song that deserved to be a bigger hit than it was.

176. Morrissey - You Have Killed Me
The Mozzfather now with a typically depressing song. Great song if you ask me, but there's been better.

175. Daniel Powter - Lie To Me
Aww bless, he was a one hit wonder, wasn't he! Well, here's this year's highest Powter entry, 173 places lower than last year!

174. Ooberman - Bong
Ooberman album track alert. Yeah - this is great fun this song.

173. Paolo Nutini - Rewind
First of three entries for Paolo. Odd to think that in summer I was like "Who on earth's Paolo Nutini?" when he charted at 45 on downloads!

172. Lostprophets - A Town Called Hypocrisy
First entry for the Prophets. How high are their others?

171. Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child
Now THIS is a good Rogue Traders hit. Massive dance smash, and deservedly so.

170. Pink - U + Ur Hand
First of four entries for Pink is this ode to masturbation. Really fun song, but musically weak compared to her others.

169. Killers - When You Were Young
A crashout for the Killers debut from album No. 2. What's happened? The first album was amazing!

168. All Saints - Rock Steady
Very cool comeback single from All Saints - showing they've still got what it takes to produce great pop music.

167. Bedouin Soundclash - When The Night Feels My Song
A really unique song got a rerelease this year, and I really grew to like it. Totally different to the usual stuff.

166. Sandi Thom - Lonely Girl
First of the three Sandi Thom singles to be announced. I considered adding a couple of album tracks from her, but as they'd have landed at about this level if they were lucky, I didn't bother. Still, Punk Rocker is another of the contenders for my No. 1

165. Lostprophets - Can't Catch Tomorrow (Good Shoes Won't Save You This Time
Second entry for the Prophets has now also gone! How high will the third one be?

164. Killers - Bones
There goes the highest Killers entry. Really disappointing comeback from them!

163. Girls Aloud - Whole Lotta History
First of two Girls Aloud entries in this list, but how high will "Something Kinda Ooooh!" get?

162. Amy Winehouse - Rehab
Amy's mad! This song is really cool if you ask me! Somehow or other, after the flops of things like "Stronger Than Me", Amy's managed to get a big UK hit.

161. OK Go - Here It Goes Again
Brilliant video this! Okay, so the song is a long way off being "Get Over It" but still, it's a really good song.

so...
180. Hard-Fi - Better Do Better
great song, higher for me
179. Automatic - Raoul
ditto
178. Lemar - Someone Should Tell You
Lemar is always quite nice, but forgetful
177. Placebo - Meds
great track!
176. Morrissey - You Have Killed Me
well, I think he kinda stumbled this year.. so no, I don't think I like it
175. Daniel Powter - Lie To Me
...well, you know
174. Ooberman - Bong
NH, gonna give them a try
173. Paolo Nutini - Rewind
still I liked only his first single
172. Lostprophets - A Town Called Hypocrisy
nice, not as good as the first single though
171. Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child
never got the fuss
170. Pink - U + Ur Hand
nope, don't like it either
169. Killers - When You Were Young
and this one too
168. All Saints - Rock Steady
yes, I'm into this one currently :D
167. Bedouin Soundclash - When The Night Feels My Song
to quote myself: "I know it's good, I just can't figure out why" :D
166. Sandi Thom - Lonely Girl
that's nice
165. Lostprophets - Can't Catch Tomorrow (Good Shoes Won't Save You This Time)
I hope you realise you forgot the close the brackets :-) well, the 3rd is worst than the 2nd, but still ok
164. Killers - Bones
this is better than "When You Were Young", but still doesn't come close to what I like
163. Girls Aloud - Whole Lotta History
cute... just cute
162. Amy Winehouse - Rehab
boring
161. OK Go - Here It Goes Again
the best thing about this song is it's video, and it's a bad sign for such a cool band... the song is ok, but they had better

still a very good taste, Matthew :D
