This month, there are four non-movers - three of them in the top five, as DJ Schwede, the Freemasons featuring Bailey Tzuke and David Guetta featuring Cozi remain at numbers 2, 3 and 4 respectively. But overtaking them all with a seven-place rise to number one is former Chartbuster "Cry For You". September is the second Swedish act to reach the summit in recent months, but several others have done so over the years - most frequently Ace of Base, who had six chart-toppers!

Of ten other hits climbing this month's chart, Kylie Minogue now has her seventh top ten hit, as rapid riser "In My Arms" races up twenty-three places to number 10. And, among twenty singles that are on the way down, KT Tunstall is still the longer laster, notching up a ninth month in the top 40 with "Through The Dark", while Roisin Murphy is the fastest faller, plummeting seventeen places to number 34. It may soon be over for "Overpowered"!

This leaves five new entries, bringing the total number of hits over nearly twenty-nine years to exactly 2,300! - and the three highest are all by acts making their chart debut. The 2,296th hit, new at number 9, is "Disco Volante" by Swedish DJ Ida Engberg - and this wholly instrumental track, currently enjoying major success in Holland, joins four others with few or no lyrics at all already in the top ten ("Music Box Dancer", "A-A-A-Anthem", "Bucovina" and "Heater"). It must be quite some time since there have been so few "songs" at the top end of my chart.

The 2,297th hit is former Chartbuster "New Soul" by Paris-born singer-songwriter Yael Naim, in at number 17; the 2,298th is Orange County, California pop-rock quartet Mêlée with "Built To Last", new at number 30; and the 2,299th is the sixth success for German Eurodancers Cascada, as "What Hurts The Most" arrives at number 38. And the honour of the 2,300th hit goes to.......French DJ/producer Bob Sinclar, who follows up his first hit "What I Want", now in its sixth month in the chart, with "Together", which features Sheffield-born singer Steve Edwards, and comes in at number 40.

It is just as well that the Eurovision Song Contest is not far away, or there might only have been four new breakers this month. Subs and Tocadisco both debut with instrumental tracks that have spent several weeks in the Ultratop 50 in Flanders (despite being rarely/never played on Radio Donna's chart show); Lebanon-born, but now world-famous, Mika finally appears for the first time, with what surprisingly seems to be one of the least successful singles from his first album, "Happy Ending"; and Canadian twin lesbians Tegan and Sara have a potential hit with "Back In My Head".

But it is the 53rd annual music festival, coming this year from Belgrade, which provides three of this month's new breakers. And it could have been four - but La Casa Azul lost out in the Spanish finals to something which will, in due course, quite probably prove to be a horrendous error of judgement. Joining them in the breakers are one of the few instantly memorable offerings of this year's contest, Pirates of the Sea with Latvia's entry "Wolves of the Sea"; one of the most traditional pop submissions, Andorra's entry "Casanova" by Gisela; and my early favourite to win - which, as Chartbuster, is guaranteed a place in next month's top 40. Sung in an entirely imaginary language by a group of classically-trained musicians who specialise in traditional medieval love songs, this year's Belgian submission is certainly distinctive and different from any of its rivals. Could this be a recipe for success? My Record of the Month is Ishtar, with "O Julissi Na Jalini".

As I've just reached a grand total of exactly 2,300 hits, how about a quick look at my all-time chart?

Since this is updated monthly using a points system, hits in the current chart are all moving up slightly, as former hits all slide slowly downwards to make room. But here are the tracks that currently occupy the round number positions:

Number 2,300 - WETTEN DASS..................................Mara Laurien

Seventh-placed finalist in Germany's "Ein Lied für Zagreb" Eurovision final, this track spent just one month in my chart at number 50. (So did ten others during the period from May 1983 to December 1992 when my chart was extended to a top fifty - but this one grabs last place because hits with exactly the same chart run and points score are listed alphabetically by title!)

Number 2,200 - VOULEZ-VOUS..........................................Abba

One of sixteen Abba tracks that have reached my chart, but one of the lowest ranked. This spent one month at number 28 in the chart of September 1979.

Number 2,100 - LIVE TO TELL......................................Madonna

Currently at this position, another of the artists with most hits - twenty-two so far! This one spent three months in my chart in 1986, peaking at number 42.

Image

Number 2,000 - FREEDOM...........................................DJ Bobo

Eight appearances in my chart for one of Switzerland's most successful singer/songwriter/producers. This one charted for the first three months of 1997, peaking at number 36.

Image

Number 1,900 - HAND IN HAND....................................3-O-Matic

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N3qgh63DJNI

This spent the first three months of 1998 in my chart ( 33-18-32 ) - an unusually short run for a single which reached the top twenty. By no means the only hit entitled "Hand in Hand" - the most impressive being a chart-topper of this title by Dune - this was the only success for eurodance act 3-O-Matic.

Number 1,800 - JULIET.........................................Robin Gibb

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Vta0gnKUpmU

A solo hit for one of the Bee Gees, this spent the last eight months of 1983 in my chart, peaking at number 19.

Number 1,700 - SYNAESTHESIA..........Thrillseekers featuring Sheryl Dean

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UeFaTa73kfw

This trance project spent four months in my chart, peaking at number 27, in 2001, with this - their one and only hit.

Number 1,600 - FIRE NIGHT / SATA SALAMAA.....................Vicky Rosti

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7e5aRi_YKbM

Currently ranked 58th out of seventy-four Eurovision Song Contest entries that have entered my chart, this was the Finnish entry in 1987 - when it spent four months in my chart, peaking at number 23.

This took a lot longer to put together than I expected......so I'll post details of the other fifteen selected former hits in the next few days/weeks!

Voulez Vouse is one of the only ABBA songs I really like surprisingly. DJ Sammy's is really uppity and nice and Sheryl Dean is gorgeous

Number 1,500 - BEN-ADAM....................................Yardena Arazi

Another Eurovision entry, this time Israel's from 1988. This spent four months in my chart, peaking at number 20.

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lwzT5VLVjaY

Number 1,400 - ETERNAL FLAME..................................Rollergirl

The original version by the Bangles is 553 places higher, but this remake was one of five hits by German singer "Nicci Juice" (Nicole Saft). It spent five months in my chart in 2000, peaking at number 12.

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Z65zgkZkIJQ

Number 1,300 - HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN......................Secret Tunes

Another cover-version, this time of a song much more associated with the Animals. It spent the first five months of 2003 in my chart, peaking at number 8.

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=65gLE1ZHSWw

Number 1,200 - FUEGO................................................Bond

My Record of the Month in February 2003, this instrumental was a follow-up to the chart-topper "Victory" by this classical crossover string quartet. Unfortunately, it only spent a third as long in my chart - five months - and could go no higher than number 13.

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=U_wCGbh2gRM

Number 1,100 - GIVIN' ALL MY LOVE..............................Whigfield

The fourth highest of fourteen hits on my chart for Danish-born Sannie Charlotte Carlson, who reached number one in many charts around the world with "Saturday Night", but has never been higher than number 8 in mine. This track from 1997 is probably not among her most well-known, but it spent seven months in my chart, peaking at number 10.

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ehFuhVPbbOc

Number 1.000 - THE BUCKET OF WATER SONG....The Four Bucketeers

It entered my chart at number five twenty-eight years ago this month, rising as high as number two - and scored enough points in just five months to remain in the top thousand until now. (By next month, "Uninvited" and "If You Were A Sailboat" from the current chart will certainly have overtaken it!) This was a minor hit in the UK for the presenters of the Saturday morning television show TISWAS - Chris Tarrant, Bob Carolgees, John Gorman and Sally James.

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NnPYmT6N69c

Number 900 - WITHOUT YOU..................................Mariah Carey

The one and only hit to date on my chart for this multi-million-selling American singer, this version of "Without You" reached number eight in 1993, spending six months in the top forty. The song also reached number thirty for Nilsson and number one for Ava

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vOR_jq9M53c

Number 800 - LEAVING NANCY.................The Fureys and Davey Arthur

One of fifteen appearances in the top 2,300 for this successful Irish act, with another song that made it into my chart in three different versions. It also features at number 298 for the Bards and at number 693 for the Dubliners. Both of their versions peaked at number three, whereas the Fureys only made it to number eight. (But they also had the longest-lasting hit ever in my chart - remaining in for an incredible forty-four months! - with another song written by Eric Bogle, "The Green Fields Of France" !)

Just ahead of the new chart in the next few days, seven final steps back in time.......

Number 700 - WALK OF LIFE.................................Dire Straits

One of only four hits for this rock band (the others being "Ticket To Heaven", "Why Worry" and "So Far Away"), this spent six months in my chart, peaking at number ten. In Germany, it was also used as the theme to "Fawlty Towers" !

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HrjBddCTCmk

Number 600 - KEEP THE SECRET......................................Dune

This 1998 release spent nine months in my chart, peaking at number 2, for the German rave/techno/progressive trance band who had previously reached number one with "Hand In Hand" and "Nothing Compares 2 U", and also reached my top ten with cover versions of "Are You Ready To Fly" and "Who Wants To Live Forever".

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=M4PRbbhGm-E

Number 500 - ONLY IF..............................................Enya

Donegal-born Enya had seven hits on my chart, this one being my Record of the Month in December 1997. It went on to spend two months at number one - as did a later release, "Only Time".

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vgU7LCh4hgM

Number 400 - RIPPIN' KITTIN...........Golden Boy featuring Miss Kittin

Another former Record of the Month, this time from June 2002 - as Grenoble-born electronic music DJ, vocalist, and songwriter Caroline Hervé spent just one week in the UK charts with this release, but remained in my top 40 for a whole year, peaking at number three.

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTHcrBWMJek

Number 300 - THROUGH THE DARK..............................KT Tunstall

And this is yet another former Record Of The Month, from July 2007. A track from this Scottish singer/songwriter's album "Eye To The Telescope", not released as a single, I discovered it in an episode of "Doctor Who Confidential" - and it has so far spent nine months in my chart, two of them at number one. Still climbing my all-time chart as a current hit, it has already overtaken her other three successes - "Other Side Of The World" (#316), "Under The Weather" (#333) and "Suddenly I See" (#523).

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XYvVYS37lE0

Number 200 - STAR TREKKIN'....................................The Firm

This novelty song reached number one in the UK in 1987. But during an eight-month run in my chart, it could only peak at number two, caught behind one of my favourite songs ever - Juliane Werding's "Stimmen Im Wind".

Image

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FCARADb9asE

And finally.......

Number 100 - OCEAN OF LIGHT.................In-Mood featuring Juliette

Although Tatu would later reach number one in my top forty with "Gomenasai", this former Record Of The Month is eighty-one places higher in my all-time chart, and the highest-ranked hit by a Russian act. A 1998 reinterpretation of Edvard Grieg's composition "Morning Mood", this spent seventeen months in my chart, peaking at number four. A year later, they would also reach that position with a less long-running hit, "The Last Unicorn".

Five non-movers this month include the top two, as "Cry For You" spends a second month at number one for September, and DJ Schwede takes the runner-up position for a third month in a row with "Music Box Dancer". Completing the top three, last month's highest new entry, "Disco Volante" climbs five places for Ida Engberg, and may yet climb further.......

There are just three new entries this time, all by acts making their chart debuts. Although possibly more likely to win The "Barbara Dex" award for fashion than the Eurovision Song Contest, Ishtar have the highest new entry, in at number 16 with "O Julissi Na Jalini"; New Mexico indie folk band Beirut arrive at number 35 with "Nantes", and Scooter enter at number 38 with "The Question Is What Is The Question". This last track is based on a 1971 release by Mouth and MacNeal - "How Do You Do", which spent three months in my chart, peaking at number 34.

Thirteen songs climb, the Rapid Riser being "Together" by Bob Sinclar and Steve Edwards, racing up thirteen places to number 27. Two more of last month's newcomers also make major upward moves - Cascada go from 38 to 29 with "What Hurts The Most", and Melee vault twelve places to number 18 with "Built To Last". And nineteen songs are on the slide - including fastest faller "Bubbly" by Colbie Caillat, down ten places to number 22, and longest laster "Through The Dark" by KT Tunstall, down four at 28.

In another poor month for new releases, there are just four potential future hits joining the breakers - and two of these are reinterpretations of old hits. "Ella, Elle L'a" originally reached number 3 in my chart in 1988 for France Gall, and "I Don't Like Mondays" was a Chartbuster for the Boomtown Rats, peaking at number 17. New versions of these have now been recorded by Kate Ryan and Mark'Oh respectively - the former looking for a tenth consecutive hit out of ten breakers, and the latter having already had two number ones - "Tears Don't Lie" and "Let This Party Never End".

Currently at number four in my chart with "Baby When The Light", David Guetta may soon double his tally of hits with "Delirious", on which he is joined by Tara McDonald - and Mariah Carey could be on the way back into my chart for the first time in nearly fourteen years with her latest single "Touch My Body". But next month's guaranteed hit is another entry in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Representing Andorra, and up thirty-four places to number 79 - the highest of just three tracks moving into the top 100 - my Record of the Month is 29-year-old, Spanish-born Gisela, with "Casanova".

Wow, you must be only British resident (correct me if i'm wrong, but I seem to remember you are British) that has not a single indie or urban song in their top 40!

I do like most of the songs in the chart though (those I heard), so will check the rest at some point.

Yes, I'm from the UK - and I think at times I have probably bought some records/cds that might reasonably be described as "indie".

But no, I don't think I've ever liked anything "urban" !

Twenty-one hits move down the chart this month - including the longest laster, "Through The Dark" by KT Tunstall, and the fastest faller, "Uninvited" by the Freemasons featuring Bailey Tzuke. And there are just three non-movers - surprisingly including one of last month's new entries, as Scooter fail to improve on their number 38 debut, but also including September. The enduring success of "Cry For You" in the UK, albeit in a remixed version, has helped it to remain my number one for a third month.

However, the top ten also includes six of the eleven climbers and the highest of the five new entries this month - making a new chart-topper next time look very likely. The Fixkes gain a second top ten hit as "Ongelukkig" continues to climb, up three places to number 10; Lizzy Pattinson, Kylie Minogue and Ida Engberg all edge nearer the top, while Katie Melua moves to her highest position ever in my chart, as former Chartbuster "If You Were A Sailboat" climbs nine places to number 3. This month's Rapid Riser is "Built To Last" by Melee, racing up fourteen places to number four, and Kate Ryan's tenth breaker now becomes her tenth consecutive top twenty hit, as her new version of "Ella, Elle L'a" comes in at number 9.

Last month's Chartbuster from Gisela, "Casanova", may have been disappointingly performed at the Eurovision Song Contest, but it is the second highest new entry in my chart, in at number 20 - some way ahead of this month's other newcomers, which include the Cascada-inspired Dyce at number 40 and, after a very slow "Rise Up" through the breakers, Yves Larock at number 39. And there is a second hit for David Guetta, as "Delirious" arrives at number 35, with new vocalist Tara McDonald. However, the singer of the first hit, "Baby When The Light", Cozi Costi, could also be in line for another success, as she has joined up with Joey Ropero on one of thirteen new breakers, "The Storm".

Two further Eurovision entries join those already breaking and charting - France's "Divine" by Sebastien Tellier and Croatia's "Romanca" by Kraljevi Ulice and 75 Cents - and there are also brand new potential future hits for Katie Melua, Ian Oliver, Belle Perez and Koolmatch, with a track originally released in 1997, but which I have only just discovered! And, while two former hits may be chart-bound all over again for Snap and Opus, they are competing against new versions of former hits and former breakers, from Miguel Picasso, Andrew Spencer meets Blue Nature, Jan Wayne vs Scarlet, and Cascada.

While the original version by Timbaland featuring OneRepublic continues to climb nearer to the top 40, the second highest new breaker is a new version of the same song, "Apologize", by De-Grees vs The Real Booty Babes. But the highest new breaker, guaranteed to be a new entry in next month's chart, goes for the second time this year to 23-year-old Swedish singer Petra Marklund. She has been at number one for three months with her previous Chartbuster, "Cry For You", and will now double her tally of hits. My Record Of The Month is September, with "Can't Get Over".

I've been checking back through the years to see if there were any other occasions when the act at number one in my chart was also at number one in the breakers with a follow-up as the Chartbuster - and it's only happened twice before.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For most of the month, it was looking as if one Swedish act would replace another at number one - but although September's "Cry For You" slides three places to number 4, Ida Engberg's "Disco Volante" sticks at number 2 for a third month in a row, one of just three non-movers in the chart. And it's one of twelve climbers that takes over at the top, as Kate Ryan flies up eight places with "Ella Elle L'a" - a song which originally peaked at number 3 twenty years ago for France Gall. Kate Ryan's tenth hit is her first chart-topper - her previous best placing was number 4, with "La Promesse/The Promise You Made", "Only If I", and her first hit, "Desenchantee".
The other major movers this time are all in the bottom half of the top forty, as Yves Larock "Rise Up" eleven places to number 28, David Guetta and Tara McDonald climb nine places to number 26 with "Delirious", and Dyce have the month's Rapid Riser, as "Tomorrow Can Wait" races up seventeen places to number 23. Also in the bottom half of the chart, the majority of the twenty hits that are dropping down, including longest laster KT Tunstall and fastest fallers the Sugababes and Colbie Caillat.
Completing the new chart are five new entries, and the highest is at number 12. "I Don't Like Mondays" originally reached number 17 for the Boomtown Rats, and is now the fourth hit out of eight breakers for Mark'Oh. His first two hits - "Tears Don't Lie" and "Let This Party Never End" - both topped my chart, while his version of "Because I Love You" peaked at number 11. Two other acts double their tally of hits - last month's Chartbuster from September, "Can't Get Over", arrives at number 18, and Alex C and Y-Ass are new at number 35 with their recent German number one, now also recorded in English and other languages - while two others make their chart debut. Straight Flush light up the number 31 position with a dance cover of a former Chartbuster by Orange Blue, and although their bid to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest was defeated earlier this year, La Casa Azul arrive at number 38.
Atlantic Ocean didn't quite make it into my chart when "Waterfall" was originally released, but now it is back in the breakers, mainly due to a new "2009" (?) version - and there are nine brand new potential future hits. Sara Bareilles, Nforce Vs Darren Styles and Basshunter could all be in line for their first hit, Moby for his second, and Fixkes for their third - while the other four breakers are from acts with impressive histories in my chart. "Give It 2 Me" is the 32nd breaker for Madonna, and could become her 22nd hit. "Miracle Cure" is the eleventh breaker for Blank and Jones, and could become their ninth hit. And Chicane have had ten previous breakers - including four credited to Disco Citizens, the biggest of their seven hits to date being the number 1 "Offshore" and the number 2 "Saltwater". Their new breaker, the second highest of the month, is a mash-up mix of "Saltwater" with "I Bruise Easily" by Natasha Bedingfield - whose only previous hit, "These Words". could go no higher than number 40.
And an act who have reached my top forty with all fourteen of their previous breakers are now guaranteed a fifteenth consecutive hit. Of their previous successes, only "Take Me Back", "Why", "The One" and "One Night Stand" have missed the top ten, while their greatest hits to date have been "Turn The Tide" and "Lay All Your Love On Me", both of which reached number 2. The vocalist is 27-year-old Silvy De Bie - who also had a solo breaker with a version of "Ben", recorded when she was considerably younger than this! - and the keyboardist and songwriter is 33-year-old Wout Van Dessel, who is already in my chart with "Larger Than Life", a collaboration with Regi and Caren Meynen. Together, Silvy and Wout are Sylver - and my Record Of The Month for July 2008 is "One World, One Dream".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After only one month at number one, Kate Ryan falls one place, replaced by "Disco Volante" by Ida Engberg. This is the first entirely instrumental track to top my chart for almost four and a half years, the most recent one being "Anthem 2003" by Sensation - although there have been a few almost, but not quite, vocals-free number ones since then. Two of the other eleven climbers are cover versions of former hits - Mark'Oh is up eight places to number 4 with "I Don't Like Mondays", while Straight Flush are just three places below the peak position of Orange Blue as "She's Got That Light" is the Rapid Riser, up sixteen places to number 15.

There are just three new entries this time, and the highest is a fifteenth consecutive hit for Sylver - "One World, One Dream" arrives at number 18. It's a fourth hit for Jan Wayne, now collaborating with Scarlet, as "Wish You Were Here" enters at number 34. Their best previous success was "Total Eclipse Of The Heart", which peaked at number 9 - and their new hit is also a cover version. "Wish You Were Here" was the biggest of seven hits in my chart for Rednex, spending three months of 1995 at number 3. And Mika makes his chart debut, as "Happy Ending" comes in at number 40. Meanwhile, there are seven non-movers and eighteen fallers this month, and the Fastest Faller and Longest Laster are side by side - Filo Bedo with "Flying High" at 36 and KT Tunstall with "Through The Dark" at 37.

Two more remakes are back in the breakers - Guru Josh, with a new version of a top five hit from 1990, "Infinity", and Playahitty, with the 2008 version of their breaker from 1995, "The Summer Is Magic". But it's a very poor month for new releases, with only four new breakers. Tocadisco are looking likely to chart soon with their previous release, the instrumental "Morumbi", and could also make it with "Streetgirls", featuring vocals by Meral Al-Mer. Annagrace was previously with chart-topping dance act Ian Van Dahl, and could now follow up hits such as "Castles In The Sky" and "Will I" with her new solo single, "You Make Me Feel". And Coldplay have the second highest new breaker, in with a good chance of doubling their tally of hits with "Viva La Vida". Their only previous breaker was "In My Place", which peaked at number 5 in my chart in 2002.

But it's Regi Penxten and Linda Mertens who are now guaranteed an eighth hit on my chart, with their 21st top ten hit in Belgium. Or, in the case of Regi, his eleventh - as he has also had three hits from his album "Registrated", two of which are still dropping slowly down my chart! Milk Inc. have had two previous Chartbusters. The first, "No Angel", gave them their highest peak on my chart, reaching number 2 in May 2007, and the second, "Tonight", is still around, now spending an eighth month in the top forty, And now they have a third, with my Record Of The Month for August 2008 - "Forever".

As they have my Record of the Month with "Forever", the extra spotlight this month is on the mixed fortunes of the previous releases by:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Number one 20 years ago: GOOD TRADITION Tanita Tikaram
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ten non-movers on the top forty this month include the two runners-up - Kate Ryan remains at number 2 with the former chart-topper "Ella Elle L'a", and Melee spend a third month at number 3 with "Built To Last". But passing them by, moving up from last month's number 4, Mark'Oh now gains his third number one with "I Don't Like Mondays". His first number one was "Tears Don't Lie", in May and June 1995 - and his second was "Let This Party Never End", in February and March 2003. At this rate, it will probably be a few more years until he has another one!

There are only six other climbers on the chart this month, including minor moves for recent newcomers from Mika, La Casa Azul, Yves LaRock and Sylver. Alex C and Y-Ass beat their previous best - number 28 with "Rhythm Of The Night" - as their celebration of bottoms rises six places to number 23. But this month's Rapid Riser is up twenty-four places to number 10. - Jan Wayne and Scarlet's cover version of "Wish You Were Here", which originally reached number 3 for Rednex. Meanwhile, nineteen hits move down, including the Fastest Faller, "Bucovina" by Ian Oliver featuring Shantel at 35, and the Longest Laster, "On The Radio" by Regina Spektor, at 39.

There are four new entries, the highest of these crashing in at number 7 for Coldplay. "Viva La Vida" reached number 1 in the UK earlier this year, despite no physical single release - I had to get my CD single from the Netherlands! - and are just two places short of matching the peak in my chart of their only previous hit, "In My Place". It's an eighth hit for Milk Inc, as last month's Chartbuster "Forever" arrives at number 20, and a first hit for Tocadisco as the five-and-a-half-minute instrumental track "Morumbi" is new at number 31. And at number 40, "Give It 2 Me" is the 23rd hit for Madonna. Only two acts have had more - Nicole with 32 and BZN with 38.

Not entirely dissimilar to the current breaker by Basshunter, a former breaker from 2001, Daddy DJ with "Daddy DJ", is back - and there are seven brand new potential future hits. Former UK chart-toppers Eric Prydz, Shaggy and Duffy all impress me for the first time with new releases "Pjanoo", "Feel The Rush" and "Warwick Avenue", while a long-running number one in Flanders, "This Is The Life", gives Amy MacDonald a very belated second breaker. Axwell and Bob Sinclar's "What A Wonderful World" is not a cover version of the number 33 hit by Louis Armstrong - but Dave Darell 's "Children" is a cover version of the instrumental track with which both Robert Miles and 4 Clubbers reached my top ten.

And it is another new version of a former hit that is guaranteed a place in next month's chart. It's a dance project form Germany, consisting of DJ Toby Sky and the singer Sunny. None of their three previous breakers made it into my chart - "Damn" reached number 62, "Ass Up" only peaked at number 99, and "I Leave The World Today" ground to a halt at number 118. But it will be fourth time lucky, as they cover a song that previously peaked at number 2 six years ago this month for Lara Fabian. My Record Of The Month for September 2008 is "I Will Love Again" by Baracuda.
