Matthew's Personal Bottom 100 of 2002

Okay then, as the top 100 is drawing to a close, here's the bottom 100 songs of the year. I'll start counting down in 20s at first, and then slow down slightly nearer the top

100. Sita - Happy
Rather twee and sickly pop tune for my tastes (sorry, Tiger)

99. Milk and Sugar vs John Paul Young - Love Is In The Air
The first of many dance tunes, and the first of many covers, the first cover to enter the charts in 2002. A rather uninspired version of the John Paul Young classic that just has some drum beats in the background

98. Ladies First - I Can't Wait
Another cover, this one originally by Nu Shooz. Bad song covered badly here, very dull.

97. Scooter - Nessaja
Scooter fans will be pleased (and everyone else will be amazed) that this is Scooter's only entry. His worst hit.

96. Minimalistix - Close Cover
Boring dance music. Many more to come.

95. Mad Donna - The Wheels On The Bus
Remember this? The most bizarre cover of the year, and the debate is "Is it a good novelty hit?" Not really.

94. Tweenies - Have Fun Go Mad
And another one for the kids. Covering a hit for Blair, and done in the Tweenies unique way. Hmmm...

93. Westlife - World Of Our Own
Westlife are good at ballads. They are awful when they go uptempo. There's a much worse example to come.

92. Lauren Waterworth - Baby Now That I've Found You
Another cover, this time for a sickly sweet girl found by Pete Waterman. Only just remembered the dire follow-up single "The Show" (or the Shorh in her accent) It isn't in this list, but it never actually got released - thank god. One is bad enough.

91. Wurzels - Don't Look Back In Anger
Ooh Arrrr. Let's drink some zyder to the ruination of a classic Oasis track. Actually, let's not!

90. Angelle - Joy and Pain
Anyone with Sky Digital TV will have been sick to death of Angelle's boyfriend's TV channel publicising this single 24/7. It didn't work, thank god!

89. New Order and the Chemical Brothers - Here To Stay
Two of my least favourite acts collaborating. Enough said.

88. Underworld - Two Months Off
And here's some more of the same. I really don't care for the big beat kings!

87. Cosmos - Take Me With You
A rather lame dance song

86. Starchaser - Love Will Set You Free
And another

85. Trinity X - Forever
And another. The third (and worst) trance hit called "Forever" this year. They were all pretty bad!

84. Alive featuring DD Klein - Alive
And another. This one has the addition of having an artist and song title that are the same. Wow!

83. ATC - Around The World (La La La La La)
Oh dear! They seriously want to be Steps, don't they! They're not as good. The year's maturest cheddar!

82. Ferry Corsten - Punk
And back on with the poor dance hits. Never have liked Ferry's work

81. H and Claire - DJ
One of two entries in here for the Steps duo. They just weren't the same after leaving the band.

Glad to see ATC in there, unfortunately Around The World had reasonable success in Oz. Keep it far far far, la la la la la!

I echo your sentiments BadRapture...why is it that novelty/crappy songs do so well on our chart (the Australian chart I'm talking about here)?? Are we just all a sucker for such songs as "The Ketchup Song" and "Because I Got High"??

I like Sita's and Minimalistx's, they're ok IMO

Though the rest are pure rubbish I agree!

Watch out for Mad-Donna in my worst 100! :D

You thought those were bad? Take a look at this little lot!

80. Roger Goode - In The Beginning
Another boring dance tune

79. Tweet - Oops! (Oh My)
Sorry, Boogie, but I can't stand Tweet. Plus this track left visions of Missy Elliott naked

78. Reel - You Take Me Away
Oh dear - they thought they were credible, and they were really rather bad wannabes.

77. Dario G - Carneval 2002
The first of many World Cup songs - but we'd heard this all before. It was bad enough then!

76. Allstars - Back When
The first of two Allstars entries in here, their career wasn't exactly stunning this year!

75. Ryze - In My Life
Anyone know why these guys were proclaimed the male Mis-teeq? They're awful!

74. Mauro Piccotto - Pulsar 2002
Not his worst, but still a very bad dance tune

73. Martin O'Neill and the Lisbon Lions - The Best Years Of Our Lives
The Glasgow Celtic football team for those who don't know. They can't sing!

72. Demi Holborn - My Boy
The only TV created star to have two hits in my bottom 100. 10yr old Demi made her name by winning GMTV's "Tot Stars". She had one double-A sided single and was never heard of again. Thank god!

71. M Factor - Mother
Another dull dance tune

70. Blank and Jones - DJs Fans and Freaks
And another

69. Mr Smash and Friends - We're Coming Over
I really like Madness, but this project by member Chas Smith, which included the tune of the Great Escape and a rollcall of all of England's greatest footballers was awful!

68. Jam X and DeLeon - Can U Dig It?
No I can't! Another awful dance tune!

67. Korn - Here To Stay
I don't like Korn. This was no exception!

66. Korn - Thoughtless
and neither was this!

65. B2K - Uh Huh
Pass the sick bucket please! A song for the laydeez, this was sickeningly bad!

64. Cosmic Gate - Exploration Of Space
I hated "Fire Wire" with a passion. This was not much better!

63. Jam and Spoon - Be Angeled
I hated "Time To Burn" with a passion. This was not much better!

62. Lee Brennan - Turn It Around
Really bad solo single from the frontman of 911. Thankfully hardly anyone bought it!

61. Intenso Project - Luv Da Sunshine
and here's another bad dance tune.

I don't like Tweet either. Not to mention, Oops (Oh My) is just disgusting. Call Me was more tolerable, though.

Believe me, they get much worse!

60 A1 - Make It Good
Rather dull last single from the A1 lads. It deserved its failure

59 3SL - Take It Easy
Another boyband, this time Lisa from Steps's little brothers. They don't have the talent of their sister at all! The other hit is even further up the list!

58. P Diddy featuring the Neptunes - Diddy
The T, the E, the R, the R, the I, the B, the L, the E, it's terrible! Truly awful and naff single.

57. Adema - Just The Way You Like It
but I don't! A loud rock noise.

56. System Of A Down - Aerials
And another. I just don't understand the appeal of SOAD.

55. Will Young - Light My Fire
A friend of mine (a Doors fan) came out with the words "He's bastardised that song!" I couldn't put it better myself. The only entry for the winner of Pop Idol, only to be followed by...

54. Demi Holborn - I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)
The other entry from the winner of Tot Stars. A twee rendition of the New Seekers classic.

53. People United - World Cup In Our Hands
Sadly, we've not got the World Cup in our hands, but this bunch of footy fans hardly inspired us!

52. Narcotic Thrust - Safe From Harm
One of the most tuneless pieces of hard house of the whole year!

51. Gareth Gates - Suspicious Minds
Gareth tries to be Elvis. He fails BADLY! Gareth's only entry on this list

50. System Of A Down - Toxicity
Yes, it's them again. Another bad SOAD track

49. David Charvet - Leap Of Faith
For those of you this track passed by, he was in Baywatch. That alone is good enough reason!

48. Andy Williams and Denise Van Outen - Can't Take My Eyes Off You
Another TV star here, and a twee cover of the Andy Williams classic

47. Rammstein - Feuer Frei
From one extreme to the other. I DO NOT LIKE RAMMSTEIN!

46, Rammsteain - Ich Will
I repeat. I DO NOT LIKE RAMMSTEIN!

45. Tweet - Call Me
but this track was just as bad, if not worse! Notably lacking in a tune.

44. Shimon and Andy C - Body Rock
As indeed is this, Too weird for my limited drum and bass tastes

43. DJ Otzi - Hey Baby (Uhh, Ahh) (World Cup 2002 remix)
We gonna see-e-e-e-e-e England score a goal. Believe it or not, there was one worse football anthem!

42. Raging Speedhorn - The Hate Song
Heavy rockers just repeating the word "HATE" over and over again very loud

41. Sound Bluntz - Billie Jean
They murdered it. They completely and utterly murdered it!

Stand by for the top 40... it gets much, much worse

It's time for my comments again!

matthew_dixon wrote:56. System Of A Down - Aerials

Neither I!

matthew_dixon wrote:52. Narcotic Thrust - Safe From Harm

tuneless? And useless more like!

matthew_dixon wrote:51. Gareth Gates - Suspicious Minds

Oh deffo!

What does he think he is?

matthew_dixon wrote:49. David Charvet - Leap Of Faith

I kinda liked this, has it been released or has it flopped?

matthew_dixon wrote:45. Tweet - Call Me
but this track was just as bad, if not worse! Notably lacking in a tune.
Yes, it is defintely tuneless which makes it more boring, especially that singing - "bounce, bounce"!

matthew_dixon wrote:43. DJ Otzi - Hey Baby (Uhh, Ahh) (World Cup 2002 remix)
We gonna see-e-e-e-e-e England score a goal. Believe it or not, there was one worse football anthem!
I'm gonna review this track:

Watch out for it in my chart!!!

matthew_dixon wrote:41. Sound Bluntz - Billie Jean

Gettin' airplay over here.

Can we have decent tracks airplayed here??!!

This should be "Murder on the Dancefloor"!

Looking forward to the top 40 Matthew, your worst tracks are really bad!

David Charvet's track landed safely outside the top 75 when released over here!

Anyway, let's go into the top 40, whilst we're here...

40. Backstreet Boys - Drowning
Oh dear! This song is just incredibly naff! Sadly it seems to be the last we'll hear of the Backstreet Boys. What a shame :D

39. Mad'House - Like A Prayer
The first of three ruinations of Madonna tracks inside the top 40, and the first of two for Mad'house. Someone once succinctly reviewed this act by saying they were "that act with no talent of their own so they had to go around ruining Madonna songs"! Sorry, Boogie, but this is not a patch on Madonna!

38. Blazin' Squad - Love On The Line
Dated. Very dated. To put it exactly, I'd probably say 1997 - round about the time when 911 and Kavana were in their prime... or maybe exactly at the time of Another Level's horrific "Freak Me". Thankfully their third single is better... but they couldn't have got much worse!

37. S Club Juniors - Puppy Love
Ahhh - aren't they sweet! "No." would be the simple answer. I saw this on TV first, "Children In Need". Exactly what of, I'm not sure!

36. Barthezz - Infected
Why's everybody infected with my beat? Well, I wasn't for one! This made the top 20, believe it or not!

35. Mark Pichiotti presents Basstoy featuring Dana - Runnin'
As did this. It's yet more awful dance music

34. One True Voice - Sacred Trust
Sorry lads, but if you're wanting a career, then you need to do better than this. I won't judge the Popstars the Rivals bands on just one song each, but it's round one to the girls by miles. This is twee, and must rank amongst some of the worst work by the normally reliable Bee Gees.

33. DJ Shog - This Is My Sound
Sound indeed. Certainly not music! It's another of those truly awful pointless dance tunes.

32. Drowning Pool - Bodies
Let the bodies hit the floor. Let the bodies hit the floor. What a truly horrible song. Horrible lyrics, no tune, and generally just very angry!

31. Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen
Save her from this old racket. It is awful, it always was awful, and it will ever be awful.

Hey! I like that song! When it first came out, I remember that it was being described by a long equation because it was a ripoff of so many other songs (All Or Nothing + Amazed + I Want It That Way + Shape Of My Heart + Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely). Despite that, I like it, and it was my #18 song of 2001.

while i agree with most of your entries, i question your preference of bon jovi over new order. NO are one of the all-time great british bands, that single may not have been their finest moment, but it wasn't bad! and i love the trinity x song "forever", but you seem like you have a bias against trance acts! and the "infect me with your beat" song is a grower.

Yeah he did. I thought Bodies was quite a good track. I only heard it once and I still remember how it goes.

As a general rule I don't like Rammstein either but Sonne and Freur Frei were exceptions for me

Warning: If you are a fan of pure pop music look away now

In my opinion, here's some even worse songs from this year. This list could be controversial.

30. Atomic Kitten - The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)
Oh dear. This made it two years running that we had a massive Atomic Kitten hit in the summer that completely ruined a classic hit. Bring back Blondie any time!

29. H and Claire - Half A Heart
The highest entry for H and Claire - a really dull and limp song that was around for a week in the summer, before disappearing very fast.

28. Allstars - The Land Of Make Believe
Oh dear. Another bad cover version. The original Bucks Fizz version was bad enough but this Allstars take just made me cringe, very badly.

27. 3SL - Touch Me Tease Me
Two places higher than her former bandmates' highest placing, here's the highest placing for Lisa Scott-Lee's little brothers. Truly vile and decidedly naff song. There have been some good family acts out there - 3SL are not one of them!

26. Victoria Beckham - A Mind Of Its Own
Sorry, but I really do not like Victoria Beckham's solo singles. This is no exception. It is a limp song sung badly.

25. Steve Balsamo - Sugar For The Soul
I'll say sugar, alright. You couldn't get any sicklier than this tune by WHSmith and Radio 2 favourite Steve Balsamo. So sweet it makes me want to throw up.

24. Nikki Webster - Strawberry Kisses
I think even our Australian friends will have to agree that their "child protege" Nikki Webster is truly awful. Terribly twee song.

23. Hear'say - Lovin' Is Easy
Someone said on the "Hear today, gone tomorrow" program that this was "A really good pop song". No it wasn't! It was one of the worst songs this year! It hardly had a tune, and you couldn't exactly praise it for its lyrics. Bye bye Hear'say.

22. O-Town - Love Should Be A Crime
Or maybe that should read "releasing songs like this should be a crime". O-Town's "All Or Nothing" made my TOP 100 last year - how things have changed. This song is twee and naff to the extreme (with far too many "Baby baby baby baby"s)

21. Keith Harris and Orville - I Wish I Could Fly (remix)
One of the worst songs of all time, without a doubt. Someone decided to remix it, and it was released in dance version in honour of some anniversary of the first ever Keith Harris and Orville appearance. Believe it or not, there's another duck related song to come.

A bit of diappointment for me in here!

30. Atomic Kitten - The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling) - Am I the only person who loves Atomic Kitten in here????

28. Allstars - The Land Of Make Believe - rubbish as well, don't think it managed to get in my worst 100

26. Victoria Beckham - A Mind Of Its Own - this growed on me, I like her music but I do think she can do much better

22. O-Town - Love Should Be A Crime - crap !
