Hello, and welcome to Adam's Top 100 songs of this fine musical year, 2008! First of all, I know it's relatively early, but those who know me know I need a fair bit of time to work my way through this, and I like to be done by the years end. I actually started a week earlier last year, so quit yo jibber jabber, fools!

In the above poll are 12 contenders for my No.1 spot - I guarantee that one of them IS the chart topper, but can also tell you that as usual, not all of these songs have even charted in the top 100 - it's up to you to decide which is which and pick the song you think that is my favourite of the year - let me know what you've chosen too so I can see who is right and wrong!

I'm picking Jason since you love his music heaps...although my other choices would be Estelle or maybe The Ting Tings.
Let's embrace the point of no return.

Well thanks for the votes, let's get this beast in (slow) motion!

100. Alphabeat - 10,000 Nights
Image
The years catchiest newcomers that we weren't supposed to love, but do. How can a group so cheesy and pop possess such indie-cool? Whatever their secret, Alphabeat have succeeded in making terribly credible pop music, their second single being a wonderful singalong affair.

099. Paramore - That's What You Get
Image
Far from Paramore's strongest material, but That's What You Get was a nice midtempo number which got them a fair bit of Radio 1 play. Hayley's voice is strong and beautiful as ever but this isn't up there with their very best.

098. The Hoosiers - Cops & Robbers
Image
I saw these guys at V Festival this year, I already loved them but they surprised me with just how great and fun they were. Cops & Robbers was a standout on the album so it was no surprised when they decided to release it as a single. Fun as anything!

097. Duffy - Warwick Avenue
Image
Duffy was at V Festival too but I decided not to see her. As I've expressed, I'm a bit bitter she has had so much success where Adele is clearly the better of the two in my book. However, there is no denying that Warwick Avenue is an absolutely beautiful number.

096. Jack White & Alicia Keys - Another Way To Die
Image
Bit of hooha over whether this song is good enough to be a Bond theme. I'm firmly in the 'yes it is' camp and would have preferred this to whatever Winehouse had up her sleeve. I think it's an inspired pairing, a really good opportunity to hear two artists sing together that probably wouldn't have happened otherwise. It's a great, dark song, though not as good as Casino Royale's Cornell theme.

095. Sam Beeton - What You Look For
Image
Another act I did see at V is this guy, in fact he was the first act for the weekend for me as he was on so early. I can't say he blew me away but I did enjoy his material and I decided to get out of bed and see him on the strength of this single which reminded me of Nutini and should have been a hit of the same proportions.

094. The Saturdays - If This Is Love
Image
This is one of those songs that is absolutely amazing - and then you hear the rest of their material and suddenly it's one of their worst. The Saturdays have had such a strong year for me that this has almost been relegated to the lower ranks of their work. However it's still a marvellous pop song from a great new girl group.

093. Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You
Image
I first heard this performed (and indeed promoted) by Kate Nash as a radio cover. Then I saw the Kids supporting Kate at her Hammersmith tour date singing this - and as a culmination, they sang it together as the encore to the show. To be honest when I first heard the Kids radio edit I hated it because I was so used to Kate's interpretation but I soon came to the conclusion it was a great song whoever sang it!

092. The Wombats - Backfire At The Disco
Image
I need someone to tell me whether to get the Wombats album! I almost did today on HMV's two for 10 quid offer but I couldn't find another CD I wanted to pay that sort of money for. I really enjoy what the Wombats have done, this being one of the highlights for me, I love the singers accent and I love the lyrics of the song, they are so common haha! 'I made a move when it was well out of context' and the ensuing 'woo ooo ooohs' are a highlight!

091. Sonny J - Can't Stop Moving (Mirwais Remix)
Image
I liked the original of this song but something about this years remix made me like it even more. Not going to write much, simply one of the best dance songs of the year.

Alphabeat, Duffy and the Saturdays are my favourite from the last bunch. The Saturdays in particular have shocked me with their musical output. They've been incredibly consistent and I think they're bloody brilliant! :D

wooo goes for the Hoosiers, the Bond theme (AMAZING song), and to lesser extent for Sam Beeton, who's just nice for me, Black Kids - whose album is much stronger than this single imo, the Wombats (whose album I wouldn't recommend, but it's.. nice enough)

good start, no particular crap so far :P

I love that Paramore song but there's something missing there, like some oomph I guess. All the songs so far are OK and I'm excited for the rest of it
