For me, it's just okay. My favourite from him is "Rain". Do you like that one?

Hi Akini :D

Love these songs in your chart:

01.(RE) Lady Gaga - Million Reasons (Best Comeback)
02.(RE) Madonna - Borderline
03.(09) Kylie Minogue - Your Disco Needs You
04.(16) Prince - Purple Rain (Greatest Gainer)
06.(12) Beyoncé - Daddy Lessons
09.(RE) P!nk - Whatever You Want
11.(RE) Sia - Day Too Soon
12.(RE) Madonna - This Used to Be My Playground
13.(RE) P!nk - What About Us
15.(RE) Rihanna - Stay (feat. Mikky Ekko)
17.(RE) Beyoncé - Sorry
18.(RE) Kelly Clarkson - Move You
19.(RE) Beyoncé - Freedom (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

Have you bought Beautiful trauma? I've not got round to checking the iTunes previews yet, unless they've uploaded the album to YouTube. Again, not checked yet so i'm intrigued by these songs:

05.(NE) P!nk - But We Lost It (Highest Debut)
07.(NE) P!nk - Where We Go
08.(NE) P!nk - I Am Here
20.(NE) P!nk - Better Life

I hope there are some more gems on the album. I've not really taken to Revenge much, and i think Whatever you want would've made for a better second single.

I'm gonna need to get Spotify aren't i? Do you use the free service or pay for a monthly subscription? I know Tansike also uses streaming services. I might just get the free version and see what its like.

Anyways, i went through the previews and i have to agree those 4 songs sound very promising. Seems even more strange that they've gone with Revenge as the second single as there are clearly better songs on the album. :x This is coming from someone who loves Pink and Eminem but i'm just finding it a bit corny and lacklustre. :(

...and so todays hottest picks have:

03.(RE) Girls Aloud - The Promise
05.(NE) Mabel - Finders Keepers (feat. Kojo Funds) (Highest Debut)

Look at that JakeP impact, excellent to see Mabel going in at #5. :D

Best of the rest:

01.(01) Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
04.(RE) Adele - Hello
07.(RE) Coldplay - Adventure of a Lifetime

I dislike "Two Fux" by Adam Lambert :( Has he released anything else after that single? - I really miss him, though, his voice is so magical and strong at the same time.

I see, you are facing another Lady GaGa phase right now. Love your avatar and your current #1 is defenitly one of the highlights of her latest album.
I am glad to see Adele, Mabel (that song is pretty catchy and I love the vibe), Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Britney's iconic "Oops!), Maroon5, Madonna and Taylor. Great chart

Thanks again for introducing me to the Sebastián song. I've added it to my Spotify library.

I pay the monthly subscription. The free version is a bit bleh because you can't select more than five songs in a row to listen to; you have to depend on the shuffle feature to get to the songs you like. The breadth of access to artists' discographies you get with the monthly subscription - with the freedom to select songs at will - makes the monthly subscription charge worth it for me.

Yeah, I'm also a fan of both artists - P!nk is among my Top 15 artists of all-time, and Eminem is perhaps my second favourite hip/hop act - but sometimes two fantastic legends in music can still come together to create rubbish.

I don't think he released anything subsequent to "Two Fux". What is it that you don't like? I thought you would have really enjoyed the clever wordplay.

"Million Reasons" is a very special song to me, and yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of a very special moment with which "Million Reasons" is associated.

Glad you like the Mabel song!

When it comes to "Two Fux", I don't like its arrangement and I think the melody is not catchy enough. I think I just listened to that song twice and I have never had the urge to go back listening to it (unlike his first two albums after American Idol).

Yeeeeeeeees! I just listened to "Suspicious Minds" a few minutes ago! - I love some oldies and this is one of my ultimate favourites!

Ah, I think the more 'stripped' - by Adam's standards anyway - arrangement works for me, as it's in keeping with the I-don't-give-a-phuck message of the song.

"Suspicious Minds" is Elvis's best track for me.

JSparksFan wrote:Yeah, and when you get almost half a million dollars for an Instagram post, I guess you focus more on your endorsement deals than pushing third and fourth singles. It's crazy, though, how big digital downloading was just a few years ago - I remember "Shake It Off" opened with 544,000 to claim its #1 debut - and now you have "Bodak Yellow" at #1 with just over 45,000 actual paid downloads, and this is just three years later.
Damn. Those figures really highlight just how fast streaming has cannibalized downloads (particularly when it comes to individual song sales.) This fast-paced digital era...

Of course, the appeal isn't too hard to see: why pay $1.29 (or even $0.69) per song when you can pay $10-15 per month (essentially the cost of one full album) for access to MILLIONS of songs? That said...I still haven't made the transition myself (I really like the customization options that iTunes offers when it comes to organizing albums, artwork, adding bonus tracks/leaked demos, etc.), but I hear Apple Music integrates pretty seamlessly with iTunes, and as streaming-service-exclusives become increasingly popular, it's only a matter of time before we won't really have much of a choice anyway. You seem pretty satisfied with Spotify?

JSparksFan wrote:Yeah, "Umbrella" felt bigger to me, too, but if you look at the all-time biggest hits (as of November 2015) in the US and the biggest selling singles of all-time in the UK "We Found Love" is Rihanna's biggest hit on both lists. Also, I don't know how comfortable you are with Mediatraffic as the global chart, but on their all-time list "We Found Love" is Rihanna's biggest hit as well.
I very much appreciate and respect that you've done that much research on the topic, even when the findings continue to tell the story you didn't want to hear. :x

It's funny - typically, I'd advocate for sticking to the numbers in order to get the most objective perspective possible...but a part of me really doesn't want to let go of the idea of "Umbrella" as her "biggest" hit, so I'm reaching for these nebulous arguments to make it so  It really does seem like one of those cases where anyone who was alive/into mainstream music at the time would get why "Umbrella" was SO significant, even if its stats aren't quite as impressive as WFL. My mind just keeps racing with hard-to-quantify claims like "it launched her into SUPERstardom", "it cemented her as one of the top pop/R&b forces of that era", etc.

JSparksFan wrote:Interestingly enough, I'm strongly considering a trip to Havana.

• Damn. Well...I'm a day late now, but I was really struck by (and wanted to comment on) "Perfect" reaching No. 1. With your ever-present cynicism toward (and disdain for) many of today's official-chart-contenders, it's really sincerely endearing that this Ed Sheeran ballad (that many might label "schmaltzy") has resonated with you so strongly. Maybe I'm projecting here, but I like to think that it serves as a welcome reminder that in addition to the caustic critic, there's still a really tender, starry-eyed romantic side to you too. Ed's become SUCH an easy target lately (almost on par with Maroon 5 and The Chainsmokers), so I appreciate you stanning for anything of his (especially something that could easily be dismissed as saccharine.)

Yet another dreamy chart, Akini! :D

I love it! It makes the exploration of artists' discographies in their entirety so much easier! It also makes it relatively easy to keep up with the current hits thanks to their 'Today's Hits' section. I was sceptical at first - as I am with most changes in my routine - but I'm definitely embracing streaming as the future of music consumption. The only negative is how it's stagnated the charts to such a ridiculous extent, but that's a small price to pay.

I completely agree. One thing a recent training session reminded me about is the need to consider both quantitative and qualitative factors in assessing significance, and I don't think "We Found Love" stacks up to "Umbrella" in the qualitative department. When you consider the 10-week rainy weather during the song's reign in the UK prompting journalists to label that incident the 'Rihanna Curse,' the iconic video that won RiRi her first VMA and for Video of the Year no less, the parodies, the airplay, the pop culture references, and even the tussle behind the scenes for Rihanna to claim the song as hers when big names like Mary J. Blige and Britney Spears were offered the track, or in the running to get it, it's hard for those factors to not more-than-comfortably offset the marginal quantitative advantage "We Found Love" has. I always felt like "We Found Love" benefitted from Rihanna coming off what was quite possibly her most impressive hit-making era, whereas "Umbrella" completely shattered everything she had done before. It was a new level for her, and still her signature song after all these years and the multitude of other global hits she's had.

Projection or not, it's accurate.

I think "Perfect" just might be the best song Ed's ever done. People are quick to dismiss songs that express such unfiltered affection as trite and juvenile, but there's something that's so welcoming and reassuring about "Perfect". I guess we harden as we get older, and can't be bothered with hopeless (and blindly optimistic, overly sympathetic) depictions of romance. On the first listen, it was my favourite song on ÷, and I guess it's a reminder that that side of me you described - the one I like to call my 16-year-old self - is still very much alive.

So, we don't agree on Adam's track but we have the same favourite by Elvis <3

"Devil Pray" is absolutely fantastic. It should have been a single... I can't believe they chose that utterly horrendous "Bitch, I'm Madonna" instead.

"Push The Button" is a modern pop classic and damn, Amy was so freaking talented. It's a shame her career was so short. "Tears Dry On Their Own" is excellent.

Neither can I. "Devil Pray" could've had such an amazing video, too. :(

The first time I heard "Push the Button" I thought it was pretty good, but it's just grown on me so much. I absolutely love it now. It's so sexy.

Amy's Back to Black is phenomenal, possibly among the Top 10 albums ever recorded.
