Phew!

Three strikes and they're out...

I've enjoyed several of her solo singles, but I definitely think she peaked with The Scene. (Granted, When The Sun Goes Down remains the only album of hers that I've heard in full.)

Totally fair. I should probably do the same to avoid completely repeating myself in 4 (?) weeks' time.

• Such a splendorous sight, dahling! I didn't realize/forgot/blocked out that you held AYNAF in such high regard!
• As others have noted, I'm surprised to see "O Holy Night" inside the Top 10 (in March.) Is this your way of implying that Mariah's birth is comparable to that of our Lord and Savior? ;)
• Speaking of unexpected inclusions, I'm diggin' the mix of deep cuts sprinkled in here. I recall you favoring "Faded" in the past, but I wouldn't have bet on "Betcha" popping up. "Alone In Love" is a lovely reminder of how even much of the "filler" on her debut is surprisingly strong (especially as far as first albums often go. I'm lookin' at you Janet, Kylie...)

Yet another chart that's perfect any time and any place , Akini! :D

Yes @ FLAB making an appearance on Mariah day. Such a beautiful song.

Also really like that you threw some love @ CTTA (Mariah's Theme).

I love "O Holy Night". The song itself is such a terrific Christmas standard, and Mariah takes it to heights no one else could.

Yeah, I feel like I'm remembering a conversation we had about it where you said you weren't too crazy about the gospel/religious undertones, and I said I loved the song more from a vocal spectacle perspective + my interpretation of the friend was a bit more literal (as in close friends and family being there to care for you when you're unable to do so for yourself).

phoenix98 wrote:• As others have noted, I'm surprised to see "O Holy Night" inside the Top 10 (in March.) Is this your way of implying that Mariah's birth is comparable to that of our Lord and Savior? ;)
I screamed. Just a bit, but a scream nevertheless.

Truthfully, my listening habits have no reverence for season. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is as likely to top this chart in April as a new single from a second-rate pop diva. I honestly ADORE Mariah's version of "O Holy Night". It's the best I've ever heard, and I've heard tonnes!

phoenix98 wrote:• Speaking of unexpected inclusions, I'm diggin' the mix of deep cuts sprinkled in here. I recall you favoring "Faded" in the past, but I wouldn't have bet on "Betcha" popping up. Mariah's catalogue is almost as infinitely spectacular as the universe. "Faded" was a song I didn't care for initially, but a friend of mine encouraged me to revisit it as he thought it was special, and it wasn't too long before I started to appreciate it on the same level that he did.

I love her use of the word 'vicinity' in "Betcha". It's a weird thing to like, but as we've mentioned before, we can always count on Mariah to push SAT-level vocabulary onto mainstream radio.

"Fly Like a Bird" really helps me when I'm close to my lowest low.

"Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)" is a big contender for Mariah's most underrated jewel. The song helps me to rediscover my self-worth and identity when the world takes a crack at it.

'Flames' is nice, of course it's not as great as 'Titanium' or 'She Wolf' but still good. Love the songs from the 'UKMIXtapes II' game as well! :P

Happy to see ‘Lovely Day’ in there! I suppose that’s the best thing about UKMIXtapes, being able to (re)introduce your favourite songs to others :)

Never really cared for Spending Time With You. Always seemed a bit boring compared to other songs on the album but maybe I’ll revisit it.

After listening to STWY after so many years, it’s not too bad. It’s aged nicely and is very mellow - similar vibes to ‘Got ‘til It’s Gone’ and ‘No Sleeep’

I don't know why I just can't get into this song with Delta.

I usually love everything that she releases cause it's always 'her' if you know what I mean?

This song though.... :-?

But I'm glad to see it still getting some spins.

Definitely!

"Spending Time with You" was a clear highlight the first time I listened to Damita Jo.

I totally get you! I'm pretty much always pleased with Delta's singles, but "Think About You" doesn't feel very 'Delta' to me. Not sure if she's just trying out a different sound/style that doesn't quite work for her, but I know for sure it doesn't work for me.

I don't think I'd ever heard people be referred to as "irregularities" before "For the Record", so she not only teaches new words, but also new ways to use words you already know. What type of grade-A English professor teas.
