I'm pleasantly surprised to see that her album was met with such favourable critical reviews! Critical and commercial success - who'd have foreseen this for Cardi B a year ago?

JSparksFan wrote:My journey with "Just Dance" is interesting because for a long time I thought the song was cute but nothing special. It grew on me even more slowly than it did on the general public, but now it's one of my all-time favourite songs. Lady Gaga said she wrote the song during one of the most difficult times of her life, and I think it's really the Gonna be okay reassurance that eventually sold the song to me. There are so many incredible messages of hope stitched into seemingly daft/senseless pop music.
:o Even when it comes to a song that I've been hearing for 10 years, you manage to casually drop an analysis that unveils a whole other unforeseen layer! I'd definitely always just taken (and enjoyed) the lyrics/story of the song on the very surface level of "I'm sOoOoO wasted right now, but it's alll goooood!"/wild night at the club, but I LOVE how you've now helped me to look at it through a lens of much greater...gravity, significance. Thanks for giving me another reason to admire Gaga/this tune!

Now I'm even more hyped than before to see if/how you reshape the way I view some of Janet's classics...

   Does this mean Kylie successfully averted disaster after all? I absolutely ADORE that you used the "Whoop!" for your thread title! Seriously put a smile on my face.
• In terms of the overall Golden selection here, a couple of my early favorites are notably absent ("Every Little Part Of Me," "Love"), and you've got me thinking I need to re-visit/pay better attention to "Live A Little" and "Music's Too Sad Without You." We've found some common ground otherwise, though - especially with "Sincerely Yours" <3 Might Golden get a front-page review from you (or is that only for singles?)

Yet another dazzling chart, Akini! :D

Yeah, music is so open to interpretation because one could surmise that it's the anxiety/stress of something with severe gravity that led her that wild club night. I think sometimes it takes being in a certain mood to view a song from a different perspective. I'm glad you're seeing (and listening to) the song in a new light, though! :D

I'm stoked about the countdown! I really look forward to reading your thoughts on my sure-to-be controversial rankings! :D

It does!

"Raining Glitter" is the current #1 song on the UKMixPARADE, so I actually checked that one out before I listened to the LP, and I don't know if it's the early introduction, or that deliciously infectious Whoop! (I always try to sing along to at least that part, once I'm in an appropriate setting to do so), but it's my clear favourite on the album. Kylie reminds me of a more dance-pop version of Janet, to be honest. I love how light and joyous her music is.

"Live a Little" almost made me tear up. The pre-chorus...

I wanna pack up
Set myself a sail
New life, never gonna fail
No matter what stands in my way
I wanna find love
Make a great escape, get lost
Get away from everyone who tells me it's too late

That last, bolded bit is really powerful because, given Kylie's age, it shows how she's stubbornly clinging to her belief that it's never too late to start over, to seek out and enjoy a great romance. It's definitely a position I completely endorse.

I am genuinely pleased with Golden, so I may write a review for it next weekend.

Hello Akini :D

Amazing to see Golden impacting your chart for Thursday.

01.(07) Kylie Minogue - Raining Glitter (Greatest Gainer)

Yay! :D My current #1 and guaranteed another week inside my top 5. Could we have a shared #1 again today?

02.(NE) Kylie Minogue - Live a Little (Highest Debut)

I have been so impressed as i've been enjoying every track on the album, some more than others granted. Live a little is one of the real highlights. I don't know why but i can hear traces of Wow! in the chorus.

03.(NE) Kylie Minogue - Sincerely Yours

This is gorgeous and tbh i wasn't expecting a song like this to appear on the album. I don't really hear the country elements in this song, it's just 100% unashamed pure pop and i love it. Each time i listen to this, it makes me think of a modern version of Put yourself in my place with its dreamy atmospheric production. <3

04.(NE) Kylie Minogue - Radio On

Admittedly this didn't click at first but the more i play this, the more i've found myself getting drawn into the song. I now think it's a beautiful unstated ballad and i love Kylie's soaring vocals in the chorus.

05.(NE) Kylie Minogue - Golden

I already knew this song purely from those performances of the song that fans uploaded on YouTube other the last few weeks. Hearing the song in high quality has only made the song sound even better. Such a catchy track and yes...another highlight amongst highlights.

06.(NE) Kylie Minogue - Music's Too Sad Without You

Yes...that's right. Another highlight! But i prefer this more than Radio on. I adore the musicality of the song and both Kylie and Jack's vocals compliment each other so wonderfully.

08.(NE) Kylie Minogue - Shelby '68

The first time i listened to this, i instantly thought of Lana Del Rey. The song title alone is very Lana Del Rey anyways and it made me wonder how this would sound if it was a duet between Kylie and Lana.

13.(RE) Kylie Minogue - Dancing

Usually when i buy an album, i just focus on the new discoveries but this last week i've actually been playing Dancing just as much as the rest of the album. Plus i've seen some amazing performances on YouTube which add to the "airplay" element. There's a strong chance that this will make an impressive climb back up my chart today. :D

Best of the rest:

07.(RE) Lady Gaga - Dance in the Dark (Best Comeback)
09.(RE) Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
10.(RE) Lady Gaga - Alejandro
12.(RE) Rihanna - We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris)
16.(RE) Lindsey Stirling - Crystallize
17.(RE) Imagine Dragons - Whatever It Takes
19.(RE) Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
20.(RE) Whitney Houston - So Emotional

I was really worried about the album being sub-par, but it was a good effort from Kylie.

According to the UKMixPARADE, we have a fifth shared #1 for the year thus far! :D

I think it's considerably better than "Wow", but I'm glad to hear that it's a clear highlight for you as well.

Now I can definitely hear "Put Yourself in My Place" in "Sincerely Yours", and I agree that the country elements that are pervasive throughout the album are noticeably absent on the track, which works for me.

The first time I heard "Radio On", it just sounded like a grower, so I revisited it when I was done with the first run-through, and found myself, like you did, enjoying it more with each play.

Agreed!

You know, I didn't think of Lana Del Rey, but now that you've mentioned it, I totally agree!

I have to admit that "Dancing" has grown off of me a bit.

Finally some love for I Get Lonely! You’ve never voted for it in the Retro charts so I assumed you didn’t like it. There are a lot of people who don’t like it which really saddens me. I think it’s flawless.

Unpopular opinion alert, but i think Mariah did a fantastic job with "I Want To Know What Love Is" and it's even one of my favorite songs from her.

Also nice to see Passenger's "Let Her Go". I couldn't stand that track back then, really hated it... but with time, i started to enjoy it more and more and now i'm really liking it! A shame i was so late with it.

"3" is low-key epic. It's aged well, too.

I think "I Want to Know What Love Is" is fantastic. I wouldn't list it as one of my top MC faves, but it's a gorgeous song. Also, your opinion certainly isn't unpopular in Brazil!

Yeah, I didn't appreciate "Passenger" much five and a half years ago either, but better late than never, I guess!

Just last July "Redbone" was able to string together six consecutive days at #1, but three straight days at #1 is rare these days indeed!

Stopped by to have a quick look over your past couple of days, then spotted these 2 GEMS from yesterday!!!

14.(RE) Carly Rae Jepsen - Love Again
20.(RE) Cheryl - Parachute
Love Again by Carly is such a fantastic song. It often pains me to not see her reach level of success with music that she truly deserves.

+ Parachute is such a positive mark on Cheryl's career.
