Flawless #1 (but I think after seeing how high this "single" had been ranked on my Mainshow Goes Diva coutndown, I think you have already figured out how much I lvoe it).

"Breathin" <3 Listened to that song a lot over the last week.
Nice to see Boa, Kylie, Alvaro Soler (he's become kinda popular in Germany) on your chart ;)

JSparksFan wrote:"Lights" and "The Writer" are definitely my top 2, but I also remember liking "This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)", "Under the Sheets", and "I'll Hold My Breath".
All EXCELLENT picks! Along with "Lights," "Starry Eyed," and "Believe Me," those are my most-played tracks on the album.

• It's never a bad time to be reminded of this gem's brilliance! Looks like this is its first-ever day on top? AND it puts Gaga in a tie with Madonna for total No. 1's? Exciting developments aplenty!
• Speaking of Gaga, "Shallow" is pretty gorgeous! I never would've expected that Bradley Cooper could seriously hold his own sharing a track with her. :o
• I guess that Top 3 re-entry for "GTFO" the other day was just a fluke?

Yet another chart with all the right moves, Akini! :D

Isn't "Breathin" the most soothing song of the year? I love it so much!

Ah, glad you appreciate them as well. :D

Yeah, I was shocked that yesterday was its first day at #1, too. Given that it's one of my favourite pop songs ever, I thought it would've hit #1 at some point before, but I guess not.

Speaking of Gaga tying Madonna for total #1s, Gaga is about seven or eight minutes away from breaking that tie.

phoenix98 wrote:• Speaking of Gaga, "Shallow" is pretty gorgeous! I never would've expected that Bradley Cooper could seriously hold his own sharing a track with her. :o
Yeah, full credit to Bradley for showing he has some vocal talent, but "Shallow" is pretty much all Gaga for me. His presence is ornamental.

Ohhhh have missed out on alot of fantastic charts! I missed that Porcelan made a dent a few days ago!

Love thay Shallow has been doing well on your chart (well, until today)

Enjoying all the random Gaga and Janelle entries - is the movie prompting your interest in Gaga or is that just coincidence?

Other items:

1. Your Sep. 25 while Gaga/Janelle-less, is flawless - love Ice Princess at the top, but even happier to see Stranger in My House make an appearance, and Stan <3
2. Agree with you on GTFO - a disappointment. I was ready to bring Mimi back again. She hasn't charted for me since 2010 :o
3. Going to have to make a point to listen to Vintage by Niki - it seems to be lingering on your chart each day.
4. Fix You is my favorite COldplay song <3

Yeah, "Shallow" is beautiful. Dare I dream that there's another song on the soundtrack on par with that one? I'll take the risk. :)

I think it's more "Shallow" than the movie itself, but I am definitely looking forward to the movie.

"Ice Princess" is so good! The thing with Azealia is that she has been so offensive to so many people over the years, but her talent is undeniable, so I can't really blacklist her the way I'd like.

Aw, Mimi has had some good stuff since 2010: "Triumphant (Get 'Em)", "Almost Home", "I Don't", and the whole Elusive Chanteuse record (my #2 album of 2014).

"Vintage" is so catchy - easily my fave of last month's FSC entries!

"Fix You" is so delicate that it didn't click with me for a few years, but the Glee Cast managed to capture the emotion of the song for me in a way that resonated with me, and learning more about the back-story of the song itself compounded my appreciation of the song. It's not quite up there with "Viva la Vida" and "Adventure of a Lifetime", but it's definitely among their career-best top 5.

Don't you wanna show some love to Michael Bublé? His latest single is incredible.. or don't you like crooners in general? Is it too cheesy for you?

Nice to see "Tears Dry On Their Own", "Kiss It Better", "Dance In The Dark", "Push The Button", Dmons", "Primadonna", "Black Jesus Amen Fashion", "Have It All", "Delicate" on your chart!

In that sense, it's a testament to the strength of Madonna's back catalog that she's managed to run such a close race with a much more recent, prolific artist like Gaga.

There oughtta be a restraining order that keeps JD at least 10 feet away from any microphone), but I gotta stick up for Bradley a little here. He does own the first full minute of "Shallow" all by himself (and the fact that his abilities far exceeded my expectations makes me especially sympathetic).

• One of those days when you just wanted to have a good time and leave your worries behind, eh? Classic Janet's a pretty perfect pick for brightening any dark, draining day. <3
• Is this a new peak for "Delicate"? :o :D Did the (potential) single announcement for "I Did Something Bad" inspire you to revisit a much better reputation track? ;) If they seriously make "Getaway Car" AUS/NZ-only and push IDSB everywhere else instead...
• I guess it's fairly fitting to have "Needed Me" right above the (amazing) single that it (brutally) cannibalized.
• "Push The Button" is SUCH frisky fun (both the song and video).
• On first listen, I'm definitely diggin' the chill-but-catchy combo Sevyn's serving up on "Been A Minute." It's got some great lines too: "I'm not sure if I wanna tie you down and f**k you, or if I just wanna say 'f**k you'..." Off to add it as soon as I hit "Submit."

Yet another chart that's a perfect escape, Akini! :D

I have been known to change credits I don't agree with

Kendrick Lamar got no credit for Sia's The Greatest a couple years ago. :) And I thought Avicii leaving Aloe Blacc off the credits for Wake Me Up was crazy :)

I just listened to it. It's very meh.

Glad you appreciate those nine! I remember you not liking Anti much - it wasn't RiRi's best showing for me either - but "Kiss It Better" is still a quality jam, so I'm happy we agree on that.

Yeah, that's certainly one way of looking at it. Another fact to consider is that Madonna's complete discography is still fairly new to me, and she's sure to rack up more #1s as time helps me to appreciate certain songs from her that I didn't like initially.

You're certainly right in deducing that most of Madonna's chart-toppers are from her back catalogue. Looking at her last two records, MDNA produced two #1s ("Give Me All Your Luvin'", "Best Friend"), and Rebel Heart earned four #1s ("Ghosttown", "Joan of Arc", "Devil Pray", "Veni Vidi Vici"). Actually, since we're on the topic, let's take a look back at all her chart-toppers.

- Deeper and Deeper (8)
- Give Me All Your Luvin' (6)
- Ghosttown (5)
- Papa Don't Preach (3)
- Hung Up (3)
- Love Tried to Welcome Me (3)
- Joan of Arc (3)
- Like a Prayer (2)
- Vogue (2)
- Express Yourself (2)
- Rain (2)
- Devil Wouldn't Recognize You (2)
- Nothing Fails (2)
- Devil Pray (2)
- Swim (2)
- Holiday (1)
- Jump (1)
- La Isla Bonita (1)
- This Used to Be My Playground (1)
- The Power of Goodbye (1)
- Borderline (1)
- True Blue (1)
- Veni Vidi Vici (1)
- Die Another Day (1)
- Best Friend (1)
- American Life (1)
- White Heat (1)

He's an adequate opening act, but I still don't think he adds value to the song.

Indeed!

It is a new peak for "Delicate"! I don't think I saw that single announcement. The era feels pretty dead anyway, so I wouldn't be in an uproar for them to put the final nail in the coffin.

phoenix98 wrote:• I guess it's fairly fitting to have "Needed Me" right above the (amazing) single that it (brutally) cannibalized.
 I actually like "Kiss It Better" more. I guess I understand why "Needed Me" was more popular, as the lyrics are probably more relatable to the masses, but for Phuck yo pride alone, "Kiss It Better" deserved better!

phoenix98 wrote:• "Push The Button" is SUCH frisky fun (both the song and video).
It's exquisite pop!

phoenix98 wrote:• On first listen, I'm definitely diggin' the chill-but-catchy combo Sevyn's serving up on "Been A Minute." It's got some great lines too: "I'm not sure if I wanna tie you down and f**k you, or if I just wanna say 'f**k you'..." Off to add it as soon as I hit "Submit."
Ah, yay at you checking out "Been a Minute" and enjoying it! :D

Kendrick Lamar got no credit for Sia's The Greatest a couple years ago. :) And I thought Avicii leaving Aloe Blacc off the credits for Wake Me Up was crazy :)
Same!

I credited Kendrick, though! His verse means a lot to me considering that the song was released while I was studying for an exam where I fell twice before; luckily, my bounce back was special.

I was JUST watching the Deeper and Deeper video tonight. I was reading something about Michelle Visage being a part of some sort of production about a gay porn star named Joey Stefano who died in the 90s and it mentioned he was in that video, so ofc I had to run and check it out. He's the one posing while they all eat bananas :o

JSparksFan wrote:Yeah, that's certainly one way of looking at it.

Ah, that's a crucial aspect of her performance here that I definitely overlooked! Even though she's only given us two brand-new albums during the life of your chart, a lot of her material has been (nearly) new to you, which puts those two ladies on a more level playing field than one would think just looking at their output during that period.

Thanks for typing up a full retrospective! If I tallied right, it looks like True Blue and Rebel Heart have spawned the most chart-toppers so far, while poor Like A Virgin and Music don't have a single No. 1 to their names (yet). I'm a little surprised that new-single-hype couldn't carry "Living For Love" to the top for even one day (granted, it fell short on my chart too). Overall, that list would make for a fun Playlist: The Very Best Of-type compilation album! A nice mix of recognizable smashes, lesser hits, and hidden gem album tracks.

Poor Bradley = void. of. value.

Supposedly she's opening the AMAs with a performance of it, but I don't think there's any other proper single confirmation yet (remixes, radio adds date, footage from a videoshoot, etc).

yes. YeS. YES! I also point a finger (or two) at "This Is What You Came For" (sure, Calvin's technically the lead, but the vocals are 100% Rihanna, so anyone hearing it would count it as another Rihanna single). Combined with the longevity of "Work" in some places, there were just too many Rihanna singles being pushed at the exact same time, and something was bound to get lost in the shuffle.

• I'm still a little bitter/sad about how Katy was done dirty during the Witness era. The single selection wasn't exactly flawless, but she'd sent some questionable picks far higher up the charts during previous eras. Even her "flops" would at least crack the Hot 100 Top 30, then suddenly 3/4 of the Witness singles failed to reach the Top 40 :x Damn fickle public...
• "Stranger In My House" is a nice early-00's throwback that I haven't heard in uhWHILE!
• As much as I adore "All For You," a part of me wishes they'd have given something like "Hallelujah" a chance instead, since AFY already got some time to shine as a promo/pre-release single with a cute little video. Palo Santo still has a lot more to offer, and hopefully the public gets a chance to see that.

Yet another chart that's a safe bet, Akini! :D

Yeah, I remember reading that factoid.

Yeah, and both ladies had to grow on me, too. I really hope Gaga has a long career because I really can see her building the kind of immense catalogue of quality pop gems that Madonna has.

Honestly, I'd forgotten "American Life" and "White Heat" topped the chart. As for the lack of Like a Virgin #1s, I can see the title track and "Material Girl" getting there one day. I'm not sure "Music" - my favourite song from its parent album - has a good chance of managing that.

I have to check the AMAs date. I feel like all award shows have been non-events these days, but Mariah is performing, so I'll try to watch it. Hopefully, the Taylor rumour isn't true.

I still think the GP should have taken it to top 10 at least. Just go to iTunes and click download on any new Rihanna song, and keep it moving.

Yeah, that was a bizarre case of hot 'n cold from one era to another.

I heard it for the first time a few weeks ago! It's lovely.

Maybe Bublé's song will grow on me.

"All I Want for Christmas Is You" is one of my favourite songs ever, so even though I mainly listen to it around Christmas, it's liable to chart at any time.
