15. Bryan Adams - Thought I´D Died And Gone To Heaven

Image

Year: 1992

US #13 UK #8 Germany #47 CAN #1

Wikipedia wrote:

"Thought I'd Died and Gone to Heaven" is one of the tracks on the applauded Bryan Adams 1991-release Waking up the Neighbours. Penned down by Jim Vallance and Bryan Adams the song has much rock flavour in its music part, however lyrically it's a love song.

The song reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #14 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks. In the UK, it reached #8. In Canada it reached #1.

Note:

The majestic Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven is still one of the best compositionally songs of the canadian and let forget in its thrilling style incredibly exciting the daily grind behind the rainbow of the most beautiful melodies.

I like it very much like almost everything Robert John "Mutt" Lange has produced. This guy just has a knack for brilliant and beautiful compositions!!

Lyrics:

Love is forever as I lie awake beside you
I believed there's no heaven no hideaway for the lonely
but I was wrong crazy it's gotta be strong it's gotta be right

Only wanted to stay a while
only wanted to play a while
then you taught me to fly like a bird

Baby thought I'd died and gone to heaven
such a night I never had before yea yea
thought I'd died and gone to heaven
'cause what I got there ain't no cure for

Ooh it's so easy what you do to me all night angel
I never loved swear to god never needed no one till you came along
here I come yea baby it's gotta be strong it's gotta be right oh

Only wanted to stay a while
only wanted to play a while
then you taught me to fly like a bird

Baby thought I'd died and gone to heaven
such a night I never had before yea yea
thought I'd died and gone to heaven
'cause what I got there ain't no cure for

I feel fast asleep I feel drunk
I dream the sweetest dreams
never wanna wake up
Never thought it could be this way
no doubt about it can't live without it baby
never thought it could be this good
you made love to me like it oughta be

But I was wrong crazy it's gotta be strong it's gotta be right

Only wanted to stay a while
only wanted to play a while
then you taught me to fly like a bird

Baby thought I'd died and gone to heaven
such a night I never had before
thought I'd died and gone to heaven
'cause what I got there ain't no cure for

Gotta say thought I'd died and gone to heaven
(thought I'd died and gone to heaven)
never thought that I can feel this way
(thought I'd died and gone to heaven)
it's gotta be love (it's gotta be love)
it's gotta be love (it's gotta be love)

(Thought I'd died and gone to heaven) thought I'd died and gone to heaven
(thought I'd died and gone to heaven) thought I'd died and gone to heaven
(thought I'd died and gone to heaven thought I'd died and gone to heaven)
(thought I'd died and gone to heaven thought I'd died and gone to heaven)
(thought I'd died and gone to heaven thought I'd died and gone to heaven)

14. Den Harrow - Don´t Break My Heart

Image

Year: 1987

Germany #4 SUI #6 SWE #5 ITA #10

Note:

After Spandau Ballet the next big surprise! I like this song very easily pleased, it reflects the feeling of the 80s. A great intro that awakens desires, a great beat and a great voice. Den Harrow joined me never great in appearance, but this song has really impressed me. Even today I shudder every time one runs across the back when I hear the first few seconds of this song ... . Grandious!

Lyrics:

You took me by surprise just like a rainbow in the night
when I looked in your eyes I could see diamonds shining bright

I never realized you'd be the one to make it right
you got me hypnotized before my life was black and white
you and me make a team I want you near me every day
last night I had a dream you went away

Don't break my heart don't let me down
don't break my heart don't make me frown

We're getting serious life by your side can be so nice
you're so mysterious yesterday you were cold as ice
I wonder how you feel if all your feelings are the same
when all your smile where real or is it a game

Don't break my heart don't let me down
don't break my heart don't make me frown
don't break my heart don't let me down
don't break my heart don't make me frown

Don't break my heart don't let me down
don't break my heart don't make me frown
don't break my heart don't let me down

13. Talk Talk - Such A Shame

Image

Year: 1984

US #89 UK #49 Germany #2 FRA #7 ITA #4 NL #9

Wikipedia wrote:

"Such a Shame" is a song written by Mark Hollis for the English band Talk Talk's second album It's My Life (1984).

It was released as the album's second single in 1984 (see 1984 in music), and became a big hit in continental Europe in 1984 and 1985, reaching the Top 10 in numerous countries, and becoming a number one in certain territories (their second number one single after the remixed version of their song "Talk Talk" which topped the South African charts in 1983); but strangely this single was largely ignored in the UK. In the U.S., the song entered the Billboard Hot 100, and was a Top 20 hit in the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play.

"Such a shame" was inspired by Luke Rhinehart’s The Dice Man, one of composer Mark Hollis' favourite books. When asked what drove him to respond to Rhinehart’s book, Hollis replied, "A good book, not a lifestyle I'd recommend."

The song was also released in 2004. It was also featured in a European TV commercial for the French car Peugeot 205.

Note:

With this song, the band managed the international break. The song is great, despite the catchy yet dark and disillusioning. I especially like the Maxi version, one of the best of that time!

Lyrics:

Such a shame to believe in escape
a life on every face and that's a change

Till I'm finally left with the eight.
Tell me to relax
Ijust stare
maybe I don't know if I should change
A feeling that we share.
It's a shame
such a shame
number me with rage.
It's a shame
such a shame
number me in haste.
Such a shame
this eagerness to change
it's a shame.
The dice beside my fate and that's a shame in these trembling hands.
My faith tells me to react I don't care

Maybe it's unkind if I should change a feeling that we share.
It's a shame
such a shame
number me with rage. . . .
Tell me to relax
I just stare
maybe I donY know
If I should change a feeling that we share.
It's a shame
such a shame
number me with rage. . . .
Such a shame write across my name.
Such a shame this eagerness to change.

12. Icehouse - Crazy

Image

Year: 1987

US #14 UK #38 AUS #4 NZL #10

Note:

Crazy is my absolute favorite song by Icehouse. Brilliant voice! I'm glad that Iva Davies pressed the button to reactivate Icehouse after many years of deliberation!

Lyrics:

Just comin’ up to seven o’clock here and uh, sun is rising. I’m about to go home. You been listening to the late night shift. And if I’m dreaming, don’t wake me tonight. Before I go, I’m about to take one more request here on stereo Sydney. Good morning, you’re on the air. Good morning.
"Do you mind if I wake you tonight?"
Is that, a request?
"Well...can you play ‘Crazy’ for me?"

I`ve got a pocket full of holes, head in the clouds, the king of fools
You`ve got a ribbon of rainbows, the sun in your eyes burning thru
Could be I`m happy and sad, could be I`m losing my head over you

Well you gotta be crazy, baby (oh oh) to want a guy like me (oh oh)
Yeah, you`ve gotta be out of your mind [out of your mind] (oh oh)
Crazy (oh oh)

So if I`m dreaming, don`t wake me tonight
If this is all wrong, I don`t want it right
‘Cos you`re the one sure thing when I get lost in the game once again
Hey, I`m a lucky guy without a reason and I don`t understand

Well, you`ve gotta be crazy, baby (oh oh)
To want a guy like me [a guy like me] (oh oh)
Yeah, you`ve gotta be out of your mind (oh oh)
Crazy [crazy (oh oh) crazy crazy]
Well, there must be some kind of mistake (oh oh)
To give your heart away [give your heart away] (oh oh)
Yeah, you`ve gotta be out of your mind (oh oh) Crazy (oh oh)

I`ve got a pocket full of holes, head in the clouds, the king of fools

You`ve got a ribbon of rainbows, the sun in your eyes burning thru
Could be I`m happy and sad, could be I`m losing my head over you

Well, you`ve gotta be crazy, baby (oh oh)
To want a guy like me [a guy like me] (oh oh)
Yeah, you`ve gotta be out of your mind (oh oh)
Crazy [crazy (oh oh) crazy crazy]
Well, there must be some kind of mistake (oh oh)
To give your heart away [give your heart away] (oh oh)
Yeah, you`ve gotta be out of your mind [out of your mind] (oh oh)
Cra-(oh oh)-zy

Hey, well, you`ve gotta be crazy, baby (oh oh)
To want a guy like me [a guy like me] (oh oh)
Yeah, you`ve gotta be out of your mind [out of your mind] (oh oh)
Crazy [crazy (oh oh) crazy crazy]
Well, there must be some kind of mistake (oh oh)
To fall in love with me [fall in love with me] (oh oh)
Yeah, you`ve gotta be out of your mind [out of your mind] (oh oh)
You`re crazy [crazy (oh oh)] crazy [crazy]
Well, you`ve gotta be crazy, baby (oh oh)
To want a guy like me (A guy like me) Yeah, U gotta be crazy, baby

11. Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes

Image

Year: 1987

US #4 UK #82 CAN #2

Wikipedia wrote:

"Hungry Eyes" is a song performed by Eric Carmen, and was featured in the film Dirty Dancing. The song was recorded at Beachwood Studios in Beachwood, OH in 1987. "Hungry Eyes" peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts in 1988. The song was not released commercially in the UK, but it managed to peak at #82 in January 1988, having charted purely on import sales.

It was written by John DeNicola and Franke Previte. DeNicola and Previte also co-wrote, with Donald Markowitz, the song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" also from Dirty Dancing.

Note:

The definitely nicer song from Dirty Dancing!

Lyrics:

I've been meaning to tell you
I've got this feelin' that won't subside
I look at you and I fantasize
You're mine tonight
Now I've got you in my sights

With these hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you and I

I wanna hold you so hear me out
I wanna show you what love's all about
Darlin' tonight
Now I've got you in my sights

With these hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you and I
I've got hungry eyes
Now I've got you in my sights
With those hungry eyes
Now did I take you by surprise

I need you to see
This love was meant to be

(SOLO)

I've got hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you and I
I've got hungry eyes
Now I've got you in my sights
With those hungry eyes
Now did I take you by surprise
With my hungry eyes
I need...
Hungry eyes
Now I've got you in my sights
With my hungry eyes

Spandau OK but they became a sub-Simple Minds here and not the group they once were.

Bryan good.

Carmen and Icehouse good.

Loved Talk Talk.

Looked up Den Harrow song - it's not bad - though he looks almost as girly as his love interest!

10. Rod Stewart - Da Ya Think I´m Sexy

Image

Year: 1978

US #1 UK #1 Germany #1

Wikipedia wrote:

"Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" is a 1978 hit song for Rod Stewart. It was written by Stewart and Carmine Appice, and produced by Tom Dowd.

"Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" spent one week at the top of the British charts in December 1978 and four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, starting 10 February 1979. It also topped the charts in Australia for two weeks.

Royalties from the song were donated to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Stewart performed the song at the Music for UNICEF Concert at the United Nations General Assembly in January 1979.

The song was criticized by many in the rock press as a betrayal of Stewart's blues-oriented rock roots due to its disco-like arrangement, but Stewart and others were quick to point out that other widely respected artists, such as Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones, had also released disco-flavoured songs. It was also alleged that Stewart created the song through partial musical plagiarism.

Carmine Appice, who played drums on this song told Songfacts: "This was a story of a guy meeting a chick in a club. At that time, that was a cool saying. If you listen to the lyrics, 'She sits alone, waiting for suggestions, he's so nervous...' it's the feelings of what was going on in a dance club. The guy sees a chick he digs, she's nervous and he's nervous and she's alone and doesn't know what's going on, then they end up at his place having sex, and then she's gone."

In 2004 Rolling Stone ranked the song #301 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

A 12" disco single of the song was released in 1978. The song was remixed by disco producer Jim Burgess. It ran one minute longer than the LP version at 6:29, contains two alternate recorded lines, and a heavier bass-infused drum beat. This disco version has never appeared on CD.

Note:

Da Ya Think I'm Sexy captures exactly at the end of the 70th emerging disco lifestyle. An absolute classic dance-floor I still hear always on almost every party.

Lyrics:

Sugar, sugar

She sits alone waiting for suggestions
He's so nervous avoiding all the questions
His lips are dry, her heart is gently pounding
Don't you just know exactly what they're thinking

If you want my body and you think I'm sexy
come on sugar let me know.
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
come on honey tell me so
Tell me so baby

He's acting shy looking for an answer
Come on honey let's spend the night together
Now hold on a minute before we go much further
Give me a dime so I can phone my mother
They catch a cab to his high rise apartment
At last he can tell her exactly what his heart meant

If you want my body and you think I'm sexy
come on honey tell me so
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
come on sugar let me know

His heart's beating like a drum
'cos at last he's got this girl home
Relax baby now we are alone

They wake at dawn 'cos all the birds are singing
Two total strangers but that ain't what they're thinking
Outside it's cold, misty and it's raining
They got each other neither one's complaining
He say's I sorry but I'm out of milk and coffee
Never mind sugar we can watch the early movie

If you want my body and you think I'm sexy
come on sugar let me know
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
come on honey tell me so

If you really need me just reach out and touch me
come on sugar let me know
If you really, really, really, really need me
just let me know
Just reach out and touch me
If you really want me
just reach out and touch me
come on sugar let me know
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
come on sugar let me know
If you, if you, if you really need me
just come on and tell me so

09. Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days

Image

Year: 1984

US #16 US Dance #1 UK #21 Germany #5 CAN #5 NZL #6

Wikipedia wrote:

"Dance Hall Days" is one of Wang Chung's most popular and best known hit singles. It was released in 1984 on the album Points on the Curve. This was their only song to make the Top 75 charts in the UK, narrowly missing the Top 20. In the U.S. it peaked at #16 on the Hot 100, reached #8 on the Mainstream Rock radio chart, and went all the way to #1 on the Dance/Disco chart, their highest showing on the latter two charts.

Note:

As this song appeared I have literally devoured it. It ran with me for weeks in heavy rotation. A cool beat with an incredibly strong saxophone, and was from a disco no one think away for a long time. It was with me very long among the top three songs, but in recent years no longer had so many spins.

Lyrics:

Take your baby by the hand
and make her do a high handstand
and take your baby by the hand
and do the next thing that you feel

We were so in phase
in our dance hall days
we were cool on grace
when I you and everyone we knew
could believe do and share in what was true
dance hall days love

Take your baby by the hair
and pull her close and there there there
and take your baby by the ears
and play upon her darkest fears

We were so in phase
in our dance hall days
we were cool on grace
when I you and everyone we knew
could believe do and share in what was true

Oh I said
dance hall days love
dance hall days
dance hall days love

Take your baby by the wrist
and in her mouth an amethyst
and in her eyes two sapphires blue
and you need her and she needs you

And you need her and she needs you
and you need her and she needs you
and you need her and she needs you
and you need her and she needs you

We were so in phase
in our dance hall days
we were cool on grace
when I you and everyone we knew
could believe do and share in what was true

Oh I said
dance hall days love
dance hall days love
dance hall days

Dance hall days love
dance hall days
dance hall days love
dance hall days

Dance hall days love

08. Journey - Suzanne

Image

Year: 1986

US #17 CAN #87

Note:

My favorite song from Journey. This song deserved more attention. It has all of the elements (and more) that made up Journey's previous hits. "Suzanne" has the terrific combination of Perry's lead and background vocals of Schon and Cain. This song has a good balance between Schon guitar's and Cain's keyboard. This song has a definite pop feel to it.

Lyrics:

I see your face at the movies
I hear your voice on the radio
You're makin' love on the silver screen
I want you more than you'll ever know
Temptation...Infatuation...
Suzanne, don't walk away
On no Suzanne, oh girl I'm callin' you
Suzanne, so far away
Remember Suzanne, those summer nights with me

I wonder if you're really happy
And if you saw me, would you know my name
I'm the one you used to hold on to
You're the one who used to wear my ring
Remember...our last September...

Oh Suzanne, don't walk away
On no Suzanne, oh girl I'm callin' you
Suzanne, so far away
Remember Suzanne, those summer nights with me

Remember...our last September...
Suzanne, so far away
Remember Suzanne, those summer nights with me

Suzanne, don't walk away, I love you Suzanne
I'm still callin' you
Suzanne...no no no no no remember
Those summer nights with me, those summer nights

07. Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way

Image

Year: 1976

US #10 UK #38 CAN #11 AUS #12

Wikipedia wrote:

"Go Your Own Way" is a song written by Lindsey Buckingham and performed by Fleetwood Mac. It was released in late 1976, the first single from their then forthcoming Rumours (which would be released in February 1977) and peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the group's first top ten hit in the U.S. It is ranked number 119 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list.

Note:

"Go Your Own Way" is musical nirvana, a glimmering, golden rock 'n roll keeper. It has not only a great chorus but one of his finest guitar solos ever.

Lyrics:

Loving you isn't the right thing to do
How can I ever change things that I feel

If I could, maybe I'd give you my world
How can I when you won't take it from me

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can tell it another lonely day
Go your own way

Tell me why everything turned around
Packing up, shacking up is all you wanna do

If I could, Baby, I'd give you my world
Open up, everything's waiting for you

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can tell it another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can tell it another lonely day
Go your own way
