100 Reasons I Love 2007 [COMPLETE]

2007 was when I first started working in a bar, which meant hearing a hell of a lot of dance music, and doing a lot of clubbing both after work and on nights off. Also I'm sure you will all remember how much you missed me when I started a year without the internet when I moved house in the Summer...

I remember checking the charts on teletext and wondering what a lof of the hits were...sometimes even chart toppers!

1997 The Verve - Lucky Man
1998 The Corrs - What Can I Do?
1999 Foxy Brown - Hot Spot
2002 Beverley Knight - Gold
2003 D Kay & Epsilon ft.Stamina MC - Barcelona
2006 Keisha White - The Weakness In Me
2007 ?? - ??
2008 The Futureheads - The Beginning Of The Twist
2009 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone
2010 Shakira - Waka Waka

On The Way...?

I just wanted to give a special shout out to this single

Again I will be doing this chart on only songs that made the UK chart (top 75, though it changed to a top 100 half way through the year!)

Freeform Five - No More Conversation (Mylo Remix)

Easily one of my favourite songs of 2007, but sadly did not chart.

Looking forward to seeing more dance in this chart... I thought you left UKMIX and then you finally returned... was a glorious day.

Great start with that Mylo Freeform Five tune... I seem to remember Grybop loved that one!

Gonna admit I can't be arsed matching the colours with the CD covers this time.

100 SE:SA FT.SHARON PHILLIPS - LIKE THIS LIKE THAT
Image
Reached #63 [December]

This song sounded like Missy Elliott in places, I liked it for the most part, sample came from Dee-Lite's Groove Is In The Heart, have to say I've heard better songs in the same sort of genre though..

99 NEWTON FAULKNER - DREAM CATCH ME
Image
Reached #7 [August]

This was one of those songs I was noticing hovering around the chart for ages without knowing what the hell it was. Meanwhile everyone was having it hammered into them non-stop on the radio. Great little pop song, easily his best, but he's never had much on my radar to be fair!

98 RICHARD FLEESHMAN - COMING DOWN
Image
Reached #78 [December]

From Corrie' Richard Fleeshman won some TV talent show (Soapstar to Popstar?) he was really popular but left it so long to release this single that nobody cared by the time it came. Strike while the iron's hot Ricky boy! Just as good as most male singer-songwriter tracks I thought!

97 MIKA - HAPPY ENDING
Image
Reached #7 [December]

I don't think I was a particular fan of Mika, I did like a few of his songs, but I wasn't one of the many who bought his first album (sadly I was one of the few that bought the second!), however he is one of only 2 acts to appear 3 times in this list. This is the first then, his only real ballad thus far. It gets really nice towards the end.

96 JACK PENATE - TORN ON THE PLATFORM
Image
Reached #7 [July]

Another one where I didn't know what the 'eck it was when it charted. I got into Jack more later on, especially with his single "Be The One", this is such a good introductory track to his fun acoustic style sound though.

I liked that Newton Faulkner song - the album was crap though.

Don't mind that Mika song actually... reminds me of the X Factor these days.

Jack Penate - awesome tune.

Se:Sa I think was expected to be bigger cos I remembering it being on one of the Now! albums then flopping.

"Dream Catch Me" is great, I used to sing it on karaoke all the time back then!

Soapstar Superstar he won and yeah he left it like a year to release anything, wasted opportunity!

"Happy Ending" is one of the few Mika songs I can actually stand these days.

Jack Penate is really good, I slightly preferred "Second, Minute Or Hour".

95 BOBBY VALENTINO FT.TIMBALAND - ANONYMOUS
Image
Reached #25 [July]

Mostly Bobby V's career has been a bit on the dull side for me, but this was one I actually liked, mostly due to a dance remix I used to hear often in the club I worked in at the time.

94 SAMIM - HEATER
Image
Reached #12 [November]

The original accordion dance anthem! Was basically an accordion playing over a beat with occasional monkey noises!

93 WOMBATS - LET'S DANCE TO JOY DIVISION
Image
Reached #15 [October]

I'd say it was fair to describe this as the breakthrough single for one of my favourite bands, The Wombats. Cheeky as ever with an Arctic Monkeys style rhythm!

92 JAMELIA - NO MORE
Image
Reached #43 [March]

The last charting single from UK pop&b favourite, Jamelia. Taking the much used sample "Golden Brown". I don't think it was very popular with fans, I did like it, but I thought "Got It So Good" would have made a better single.

91 JENNIFER LOPEZ - DO IT WELL
Image
Reached #11 [October]

J-Lo's 2007 comeback didn't seem to have the same punch as her current one. I thought this was going to be massive when I heard it, but it surprised me being a bit of a flop. I don't like it nearly as much as I did at the time.

Quite like that forgotten Wombats song!

Also "Heater" was good... didn't know it got to #12, that's better than I thought.

"Heater"!! I was obsessed with that for a short time, novelty but cool at the same time.

That's Wombats' best song by far for me, fantastic beat.

A real shame Jamelia flopped, I thought that was her strongest era to do date and a great song there.

"Do It Well" was good but she's done a lot better.

90 CSS - LET'S MAKE LOVE AND LISTEN TO DEATH FROM ABOVE
Image
Reached #39 [May]

The group who arrived with the wonky pop song "Off The Hook" went all electro working with some of the greats, Calvin Harris, Simian Mobile Disco and Hot Chip to cement their place in credible electro-pop. Still hear this one from time to time in alternative bars.

89 KYLIE MINOGUE - 2 HEARTS
Image
Reached #4 [November]

Unlike my gay peers, I've never really been into Kylie Minogue, saying that, there's usually at least a song from each era I quite like, I rated "Get Out Of My Way" my 28th favourite of 2010 and "2 Hearts" makes my top 100 of 2007 too. I don't know why this song gets such criticism I think it's a great punchy pop song!

88 M.I.A - JIMMY
Image
Reached #66 [October]

Taking a sample right out of Bollywood, this was the song that got me back interested in MIA in her KALA period. Seems a bit cheesier than most of her material, but bonkers as ever.

87 SHAPESHIFTERS - PUSHER
Image
Reached #56 [July]

So in this era Shapeshifters had moved away from the public eye, but have still been releasing ever since. This song reminds me so much of working in a crap bar every night staring blindly at the wall waiting for customers to come in...

86 YVES LAROCK - RISE UP
Image
Reached #13 [August]

Great little Summer track, was a bigger hit than I expected at the time, dance music just wasn't making huge dents on the chart in 2007, but it was still working for me!

CSS is a great quirky track, my 15th favourite Kylie song, one of MIA's best like ABBA on speed, funky Shapeshifters song and great summery dance from Yves Larock.

'Jimmy' is one of my favourite M.I.A. tracks, maybe for an obvious reason  ...although I think it doesn't sound like an M.I.A. track at all.

I totally agree that 'Do It Well' deserved to perform better, I remember loving it at the time and I still enjoy it now.

Oh and don't get me started on that bloody Newton Faulkner song, it is probably the most over-played song of the last decade, it spent 32 long weeks in the top 50 here.

85 KANYE WEST FT.CHRIS MARTIN - HOMECOMING
Image
Reached #77 [September] (Peaked #9 January 2008)

Great single from KanYe and Chris, feels a bit wrong placing it in the 2007 best of, when most of its chart run came from early 2008, still this is when it made its debut. I'd say this one was definitely a grower!

84 THERESE - FEELIN' ME
Image
Reached #61 [May]

Originally known here as a vocalist with Stonebridge, Therese had a small hit with her own single in 2007, I remember hearing it in clubs from time to time, builds into a great punchy chorus!

83 JOSS STONE - TELL ME 'BOUT IT
Image
Reached #28 [March]

I was a bit disappointed with this as a comeback single for Joss at the time, but it grew on me more recently, I started to appreciate it as an Aretha-esque funky Soul track.

82 NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB - ICE CREAM
Image
Reached #40 [July]

The much re-released "Ice Cream" finally made the top 40 in July and I think they decided this time it was about as high as the song was going to get. Great wonky pop track used in an advert at the time (I don't remember which but I remember it being the first place I heard it!)

81 AMERIE - TAKE CONTROL
Image
Reached #10 [May]

Continuing her UK success with a second top 10 hit, Amerie pushed this song into the top 10 in May. Not so different from "1 Thing", a brass heavy R&B club track.
