#5 Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes - The Time of my Life (1987)
Image
Peak UK: #6
Peak US: #1
Peak GER: #5

Code: Select all
During my early childhood Dirty Dancing was my alltime favourite movie. I still remember watching it every single time it came on. In 1996/7 i might have got the soundtrack and I played Time of my Life to death. It's one of my alltime most played songs and one of the 80's finest moments.

#4 Nelly Furtado - Say it Right (2006)
Image
Peak UK: #10
Peak US: #1
Peak GER: #2

Code: Select all
I became a casual listener in 2000, a hardcore mega fan in 2003 and deluded mega stan in 2006. Nelly Furtado is a great artist. She had her creative peak with her second studio album and created one of the best contemporary R&B records of the past decade in 2006. Say It Right was my second most played song of the 00's, it has overtaken Fix You by Coldplay last year to become the most played song since 2000.

:o :o at "Say It Right" being so high! I like the song but #4 is outrageously high!

Nice to see "Say It Right", "The Time Of My Life" and "I Will Always Love You" so high.
Regarding MJ I prefer many other of his songs to "Will You Be There".

I remember how Say It Right once was No. 2 for 9 weeks... Behind DJ Ötzi's Ein Stern  !
But No. 1 is not everything so it's always funny to tell but not like it makes the songs less successful.

It's one of so many great singles on Loose, it wasn't the best-selling album of 2007 for nothing here...
It's full of hits (7 singles!), having sold more than 1 mio. copies and re-reached No. 1 in its 46th week (!). In total, it was No. 1 for 9 weeks, staying in the top 10 for 49 weeks (almost a year) and on the whole chart for 102 weeks... Nelly Furtado was THE star at that time and I wonder if she could ever repeat this success: Still waiting for her follow-up!

Nelly Furtado never flopped in Germany with an english album. Folklore did amzingly well.. the album stayed in the top 100 for 49 weeks reaching double platinum.

#3 Bruce Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia (1994)
Image
Peak UK: #2
Peak US: #9
Peak GER: #1

Code: Select all
This was the first song I've ever heard by Bruce Springsteen. It makes me cry. The melody is so good and the lyrics make me teary. It's depressing but I adore such songs. It's always a contender to become my alltime #1 song. It was also the favourite song of my late aunt, god bless her!

#2 Mariah Carey - Butterfly (1997)

Peak UK: --
Peak US: --
Peak GER: --
Image
Code: Select all
If I'd be honest, it should tie the #1 spot. It's the one song I couldn't live without anymore. It calms me, takes away all the sorrow, stress and pain. It's actually very uplifting when you look at it as an anthem for freedom. Who doesn't seek for personal freedom? I'm still in the process.

#1 Take That - Never Forget (1995)
Image
Peak UK: #1
Peak US: --
Peak GER: #8

Code: Select all
What can I say. I will always thank my cousin to introduce me to Take That. It's the same who introduced me to Mariah, too. She had great taste during the 90's, it went all downhill over the past decade, lol. I still don't like the album version. They reproduced it for the single and added a bridge which is one of the greatest pieces of pop music I know. I adore the lyrics. In my opinion, it's the best live-song ever, a tue stadium anthem. 1995 is my favourite year ever so it was clear that a song from that year would top my alltime chart, wasn't it? They somehow managed to destroy the song on their Circus tour where they reduced the melody and made it more rhythmic. But they smashed it again on the Progress tour.

Of course, you've got another taste than me but when I'm asked about my favourite songs of all time, I would name totally different songs...
