My Charts - week 39/2018 – 27 september 2018 - a Good Cry
.
    Singles Top40

Spoiler:
Another week, another busy one, as once again more than a quarter of the Singles Top40 is new due to nine new arrivals and two re-entries. And even though two of the new entries made big debuts, none of them was strong enough to push Within Temptation away. The band spends a second week atop the charts, making “The Reckoning” just the eighth song with multiple weeks at number one this year. All other seven songs are currently placed within the Top20 of the Year-To-Date Charts, so that’s a great start for Within Temptation.

Just a week after “Mariners Apartment Complex”, Lana Del Rey already released her next single called “Venice Bitch”. It’s not a typical, commercial song, as it has a length of nearly ten minutes, but it still does slightly better than its predecessor as it’s new at #2. Meanwhile, “Mariners” already falls 3-11 in its second week. Closing the Top3 is another new entry. It’s been a year since Rita Ora has released her smash hit “Anywhere”, and since then fans are waiting for her sophomore album to finally getting released – until now! The British singer has finally announced a release date for her second album called “Phoenix”, which finally sees the light of the day in two months. Alongside an album pre-order, she also has released the next single of it, which is called “Let You Love Me” and immediately becomes her second Top3 hit as a lead artist (#3).

Other new and re-entries this week: Canadian superstar Avril Lavigne is finally back! The singer has released a brand new single called “Head Above Water”, which becomes her first charting entry in three and a half years. It debuts at #8, becoming her 12th Top10 hit and 14th chart entry overall. While their album “Santo Palo” proved to be a big hit, Years & Years failed to get a big hit on the Singles Charts from the album so far. Maybe this will change with the third release “All For You”, which becomes their sixth chart entry at #13. Avril is not the only artist to do a comeback, as Swiss singer Stefanie Heinzmann is also back after a break of several years. The singer is known for her soul and funk influenced pop tracks and has released four albums so far, with all of them being very successful in the German speaking countries. Now she serves “Build A House”, a more dance-pop influenced song featuring German DJ and producer Alle Farben as the lead single of her upcoming new album. The track arrives at #17, being her third chart entry to date. Also making the upper half is Kesha’s new song “Here Comes The Change” (#19). It enters the charts exactly a year after her Macklemore collaboration “Good Old Days”, which was her last and lowest peaking entry to date with a #14 peak.

Since a year and a half, Imagine Dragons keep on releasing hits after hits. It’s been just a few weeks since the Kygo collaboration “Born To Be Yours” (#7, 4 weeks) and even less weeks since the rocky “Natural” (#6, 7 weeks), but now they’ve already released the next song called “Zero”, which serves as a soundtrack single and only debuts at #22 as just their second song to miss the upper half, though it’s their 16th chart entry in total. Since the break-up of girl group Fifth Harmony, Camila Cabello proved to be the former member with most chart entries so far with seven chart entries to date. She was followed by Lauren Jauregui, who collaborated with Steve Aoki and Halsey and has two chart entries, while Normani has collaborated with Khalid and Jessie Reyez and has two entries as well. This week, it’s finally Dinah Jane’s turn, as the fourth former Fifth Harmony member gets her very first chart notation as a soloist with the solo debut single “Bottled Up” (#30), which featured Ty Dolla $ign and Marc E. Bassy. One spot below is another new entry called “This Feeling”, the new single by The Chainsmokers featuring Kelsea Ballerini. It’s the ninth and final debut of the week.

The two re-entries both belong to the same artist and are back due to an EP release boost, even though they’re not even included on the EP. After several singles, Noah Cyrus finally released her debut EP “Good Cry”, which is the reason behind the re-entries for her two biggest hits to date, “Again” (#27) and “My Way” (#35). The EP obviously also boosts its single “Mad At You”, which climbs back up 8-5.

Other talking points this week: It’s a fantastic week for Ariana Grande. Her two singles “God Is A Woman” (5-6) and “No Tears Left To Cry” (4-7) may leave the Top5, but the former goes Platinum while the latter even goes 2x Platinum this week, making her the first artist to score multiple Platinum certifications this year and even the first to do it without featurings since Kerli did it in 2016. There’s another new Platinum certified single a few spots lower, as “First Light” by Lindsey Stirling also gets it (13-18). It’s her 11th song which is being certified with Platinum or more, tying her with Rihanna as the artist with the third most Platinum certified singles.

Noah Cyrus & Gallant’s “Mad At You” is the biggest climber while Amy MacDonald’s “Woman Of The World” drops 19-38 as the biggest loser this week.

My Charts - week 39/2018 – 27 september 2018 - a Good Cry
.
    Album Top20
    Image Image Image
Spoiler:
Being a good example of how not to promote an artist, Noah Cyrus finally gets her very first entry on the album charts following ten entries on the singles charts. Having made her breakthrough with “Make Me (Cry)” already two years ago, it was first reported that the singer would release her debut album last year. Several singles, such as the Platinum certified “Again”, the number one hit “My Way” or the #4 peaking “We Are ****” followed, though in the end only her most recent output “Mad At You” with Gallant made the final cut of what turned out to be just an EP called “Good Cry” instead of a full-length album. The EP makes it big nonetheless, as it enters the charts at #1 easily, having gathered around 140 plays since its release last Friday, with the LP collaboration “Punches” being the most played track with over 40 plays and a huge contender of a possible number one hit in the future, if it's getting released as a single.

Apart from Noah’s “Good Cry” EP, Carrie Underwood’s “Cry Pretty” (1-2), Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener” (3-3) and Troye Sivan’s “Bloom” (2-4) were still strong too. Ariana’s set even goes Gold this week.

Other new entries this week: Just one more, coming from French artist Christine And The Queens. Her debut album failed to get an entry, so it’s even more impressive to see her second album “Chris” debuting at #5.

Other talking points this week: Following three weeks of being just outside of the upper half, Bebe Rexha’s “Expectations” goes back up 12-9. Meanwhile, “Schlager” by Vanessa Mai (10-12), “Souldier” by Jain (8-13) and the “Tender Offerings” EP by First Aid Kit (9-19) leave the Top10. Last but not least, Lindsey Stirling continues with the impressive chartrun for her album “Brave Enough”, as the record is about to go back to the Top10 (13-11) in its 69th week. It surpassed Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” to become the sixth longest charting album ever.

Chart Run: *1*-1- / 2w

It's a good enough song, with a solid production and even managed to debut in my own top 15.

Nice to see WT being your #1 for another week! I love the music video! I am so glad Sharon and even the band are part of the video's plot again! I am glad you noticed taht Linkin Park sound as well!

BTB is still Top 10 on your album chart! That's good! Hope they will stick around a bit longer, though.. a pity they won't accompany WT on the Swiss date :(

I hope that you will get over this "Being cliché and cheesy" thing, though, I mean, The Dark Element even suffers a bit more because of that (and we still enjoy them... btw, are we going to get a new song by the end of this year?). Of course (and I agree), none of the songs are ground-breaking but strangely, they are all enjoyable and nice to listen to...and that makes BTB already one of the "most consistent" Symphonic Metal bands and I absolutely adore Jennifer's voice.

Yes, I have bought their first two albums as well since I really like their current one. I am glad I did because some songs are really epic on them (whilst, as a whole, I prefer their latest effort).

Avril's new single is really heavenly. I love her voice on that one.. the chorus is a bit messy but the whole production and the verse are great! one of her best singles to date, in my opinion!

As much as i love WT and "The Reckoning", i actually haven't seen the video yet - but i already said over in your Gaga countdown how i'm not really into videos, so... i still have to check it out
Nice to hear i'm not the only one hearing a bit of LP in "The Reckoning".

Sorry, but i'm afraid Beyond The Black won't hang on for too long as i'm really getting 'over' the album - there are currently too many other, strong(er) releases. A shame they aren't the support act in Switzerland, this could have give them an amazing boost :(

I'm glad you're enjoying the band so much. I don't know why i'm not that into them like i am into other groups. As you say, The Dark Element have that cheesy thing as well, and their lyrics even suck sometimes, but somehow i'm loving it there. Sometimes some music just clicks with you and sometimes it doesn't...
Maybe i'll check their first two albums out when i have some time left :)

Very happy to hear you're liking Avril's new song so much! I'm glad her comeback is so good and also well received so far :D

Tansike wrote:Ah, I can fully understand that. I think everyone has his own quirks and people are even more sympathetic with things like this. At least that’s how I feel. As for the ‘last edited’ tag – you’re my soulmate!!! I hate that, especially in topics like the personal charts or so. I can’t avoid it in some other places (like the Artist Charts Analysis section, when I have to keep the first page updated) but I really try to avoid that as often as possible.

OMG :o Yeah, it looks really cute! I’m currently at the office ( ) so I only watched it on mute, have to re-watch it when I’m home :)
Amen! I have that same problem in the first post of my personal chart thread, since I update the thread title each week. Sometimes I'll delete and re-post things just to remove that "edited" tag  but that's not always an option, since removing certain posts can throw off the flow of a whole conversation.

That Eevee video is definitely aimed at really young kids, but it's still such a cute little mood-lifter. I can't NOT smile while watching it!

Tansike wrote:Yep. Streaming really is a blessing and a curse at the same time. I’d go even that far and say the video for “Love You Like A Love Song” is one of my most favorite ones ever – the memories play a big part on one side, on another it simply is a brilliant video with all the looks, the concept (karaoke, as you said) and so on. Oh… wait! You’re still quite gay? Haha I can fully understand that. Funny how I never felt that way about Selena, probably because I kinda grew up with her and I started to like her with the show she did (‘Wizards Of Waverly Place’). She’s more like someone I’d love to hang out and chill and have as my bestie instead of someone… well, you know what :)

Ariana’s “No Tears” will cross a big milestone this week and it won’t be long until 1,000 points. I’d even say it will cross that mark BEFORE the Year-End Countdown hype will kick in. Hmm… are you talking about the points now, or something else? :P No, jokes aside… the reason why I don’t reveal points that often is that I’m always thinking about doing a countdown or something like this here where I reveal the most successful artists, songs and/or albums. So if I reveal too many informations (like artist xxx being the most successful artist ever, or single xxx being the most successful one ever…) I would spoil too much if I’d do a countdown. And if things will go well, there may be a countdown in 2020…
One of your favorite videos EVER, eh? I guess that shouldn't be too much of a surprise, knowing how much you love Selena <3 Like you said, it's a truly entertaining video that suits the song well (and has the nostalgia factor going for it too). Ha, yup, I'm still QUITE gay indeed ;) I hear you about struggling to find Selena sexy when you watched her so often during her child/pre-teen years. It's kind of like Nolan Gould from Modern Family: I haven't followed that show super closely, but it's still a tad awkward when clips/photos of him as a kid pop up, given how attractive I find him today...

Ha...well, points...or inches...or anything you feel like revealing :D :D :D That makes perfect sense, though! Revealing all those point totals now would make a future countdown pretty pointless (or anticlimactic, at least). Any hints as to what exactly that 2020 countdown might focus on? The Top 40 Females Who Make Tansike Just a Bit Bi...?

Tansike wrote:So true! It was already nice to see how “Try” outperformed the lead and then “Just Give Me A Reason” outperformed “Try”. Doesn’t happen that often these days…
Exactly! It's a fun little chart anomaly to have the first three singles each out-perform the one before it. That happened semi-recently with Maroon 5's V on the Hot 100: "Maps" (No. 6), "Animals" (No. 3), and "Sugar" (No. 2).

Tansike wrote:I’ve already asked myself the same question. I don’t think they really have a life, because it must be such a hard work to get at a level they are. I’m not really familiar with the whole K-Pop culture but it’s so different to what we have in the pop business, and that one is already a hard one…

Oh, that’s a nice idea as that choreography looks like it’s achievable  He’s a very good dancer but more like a spontaneous one – if there’s music, he can dance (very good) to it, but I guess that makes it difficult to teach someone some moves?
**Nod** :( Just nonstop rehearsals, interviews, photoshoots, etc. every minute of every day during the best years of their lives. This might be exaggerated/untrue, but I've read that they're not even allowed to date (to preserve the image/fantasy that fans actually have a chance with them...)

So your man just follows the rhythm in his heart, eh? 8-) In a way, it's even more impressive that he can pull of awesome impromptu routines without following any specific planned steps!

Tansike wrote:Nope, that’s not the reason. Especially not early in the morning when everyone can see through the window when it’s dark outside & I have light on :P
Ha, but you'd certainly give anyone passing by the best possible start to their day...

Tansike wrote:“Mercy” with that chartrun: *20*-25-22-27-34-Out
Ah, so he really won you over like never before with this album! Shame the promotion has been so messy/all-over-the-place after "In My Blood," though. :x

Tansike wrote:Damn, I had to think about this three times until I got it!!
Well, my favorite times are Water and Grass. Electricity would be weak against Grass while Water HATES it soooo it would make sense :(
But I’m glad you’re enjoying the song! I mean, I’m not the biggest fan of Dua so I can live with the song being not the best for me, it would have been a huge disappointment if I’d love her and I’d still think the songs boring…
Ha, sorry, sometimes my attempts at jokes are more confusing than clever  That was just my funny way of saying you're immune to "Electricity". ;)

Tansike wrote:Ah – there we are again with these growls! I don’t even rate them much as it’s just a short part and not even as loud as the normal voices – I would’ve loved to hear more from them  Yes, the woman is Sharon <3 The one who is slaying my (album) charts as ‘My Indigo’. Very happy to hear you’re enjoying her parts… the song overall is quite commercial for the band and reminds me of a female version of Linkin Park.
Ah, right! Shame on me for not making that connection sooner, since I added both "Out Of The Darkness" and "Crash And Burn" to my library after they appeared here!

• Like others have said, "Let You Love Me" feels like Rita's gotten back-on-track after the "Girls" misstep. It's not quite up there with "Anywhere" for me, but absolutely a move in the right direction that's re-kindled my hopes for Phoenix.
• I was a little underwhelmed by "Head Above Water" at first (something about the chorus just didn't hit as hard as/move me like the verses did), but the song's been staying with me/growing on me since its release. It inspired me to revisit some of her older ballads too, and I'd forgotten just how many excellent ones she's given us over the years: "Why," "Nobody's Home," "Fall To Pieces," "Slipped Away," "Keep Holding On," "I Will Be," "Push" - and plenty more! I hadn't played through Let Go in a LONG while, and a lot of the random album tracks are still really enjoyable.
• VERY pleased to see that Top 20 debut for "All For You" <3 Especially since both "Sanctify" and "If You're Over Me" got off to worse starts than No. 13.
• I'm curious about how Dancing Queen will fare here (and if any other tracks will enter your singles chart...)
• Bummer that "Zero" isn't doing much for you. It's probably my favorite offering from them since "Thunder" (though it's helped by the fact that I'm pretty hyped for the movie...)
• Looks like "365" might be gone after only 6 weeks.

Yet another chart that's mighty tempting, Tansike! :D

Your #1 is good! According to Last.fm, I've checked out four Within Temptation songs - all introduced to me through your chart, I'm sure - and I can't recall ever disliking one of their songs. I don't know if I could get through a full-length album that's so...intense/harsh/loud, but for one-off tracks, it's fine.

Great to see "Venice Bitch" and "Let You Love Me" debuting so high. I usually don't like lengthy songs, but "Venice Bitch" doesn't feel like nine minutes at all, and even though "Let You Love Me" is probably 'objectively' basic, I think it's catchy and fun.

Oh believe me, I already did that (delete & re-post) quite a few times  But I also make sure I read my posts more than once so I don’t have to do that

Yep, it’s so cute <3

phoenix98 wrote:One of your favorite videos EVER, eh?

Yes, it really is. Well, I have no clue how a list of my most favorite videos ever would look like, as there’s none, so it could be Top20 or just Top30 or so… but’s it’s definitely one of my favorite ones. When I think about it, I’d say it’s even my most favorite video ever from Selena, though her videography isn’t the strongest sadly. That’s one point by growing up ‘with her’, but I also think she still has such a babyface which makes her look even younger than she is, and my age or older >>> younger

Inches? Of what? :o :P  Haha… I don’t even think there’d be a Top10 of such a countdown to be honest… but… if 2019 is finished, I made ‘My Charts’ for 13 years (officially) and since I always wanted to do a countdown, I thought ‘13’ is a nice number (better than 12, 14 or so… and I missed to do it after ten years, and 20 years is too far away), so a countdown is currently planned for 2020 in celebration of these 13 years. Since it’s a celebration of ‘My Charts’, it will be based on my charts

phoenix98 wrote:Exactly! It's a fun little chart anomaly to have the first three singles each out-perform the one before it. That happened semi-recently with Maroon 5's V on the Hot 100: "Maps" (No. 6), "Animals" (No. 3), and "Sugar" (No. 2).
Oh, that’s cool for Maroon 5 – I actually had no idea “Animals” peaked that high in the US, so nice to know! :D

phoenix98 wrote:**Nod** :( Just nonstop rehearsals, interviews, photoshoots, etc. every minute of every day during the best years of their lives.

I read that too :o How cruel is that… being able to dance like that, being so fancy and stuff, having so many fans and you’re not even allowed to do something / date someone :( Poor them. But on the bright side, they are famous, are world stars, still have a time of their lives and they most likely can live from that for the rest of their lives…

He does and every time he’s doing it when I’m with him, I’m impressed. I suck at dance (or at least I think I do  ). Last year or at the beginning of this year, he listened to a song once, thought about a choreography and a few minutes later he already had one and that one got immediately stuck in his head. If I would try to think about a Choreography, I would forget it fast if I don’t repeat it over and over again, write it down or something

phoenix98 wrote:Ha, but you'd certainly give anyone passing by the best possible start to their day...

Well, how do you know? :P

phoenix98 wrote:Ah, so he really won you over like never before with this album! Shame the promotion has been so messy/all-over-the-place after "In My Blood," though. :x
Yes, he did! And that’s so true. So they seem to promote the “Lost In Japan” remix with Zedd as the official second single now. And… what were “Youth”/”Nervous” then :-?

phoenix98 wrote:Ha, sorry, sometimes my attempts at jokes are more confusing than clever  That was just my funny way of saying you're immune to "Electricity". ;)

But how did you know that her name is Sharon if I may ask? :o And… when I read your comment yesterday I was like :o :o :o because I didn’t know you actually added those two songs to your library! That’s so great and makes me very happy! (Granted, I don't know how often you played them, but even if you never played them, adding them to your library is already an amazing sign for these songs <3)

phoenix98 wrote: :o You never even BOTHERED with "#Beautiful"? Well, I guess this'll be the last time I ever bother posting here...
Awwww noooo please not  I’m sorry, but somehow my interest in her wasn’t here back then. It probably also didn’t help that it came out before I had Apple Music (iirc) and I’ve never been someone who checks out videos or so. I haven’t even watched the video for my own #1 yet, so if it wouldn’t be for streaming, I would’ve never heard it yet (ok, in a case like WT I would’ve bought it off iTunes… but still!) I guess I have to check it out now and in cases like this I hope it won’t be too good otherwise I’ll hate myself for not checking it out earlier

Same! It’s interesting how most people and even the GP thinks similar in Rita’s case. Here’s hope she may score another hit with “Let You Love Me” and I’m really looking forward to “Phoenix” now :D

And yet again – same! “Head Above Water” also kept on growing on me, sadly it will be a very busy week on my charts so #8 may be her peak for now. It’s nice seeing someone like her coming back with such a good track, and its performance on iTunes is very promising so far. I agree about her ballads - even though she’s mostly known for her uptempo, pop-rock (girlie) tracks, her ballads are often her real gems. What do you think about “Alice”?

Similar to Avril’s case, due to many new entries this week, I think “All For You” may end up as a bigger underperformance than it deserves to be :( I’m happy you’re liking that debut of course and at least they got another Top20 here, now let’s hope the UK follows soon.

You’ll find out soon

Oh, now this is surprising to me! Better than “Whatever It Takes”, “Born To Be Yours” and “Natural”? :o I think it’s pretty… basic? At least compared to their other songs… but there's no anticipation for the movie from my side as i'm not familiar with it ( ) so there's that. It already happened in the past with myself that the anticipation to a movie helped for its soundtrack single, or watching a movie boosted a soundtrack single... a movie was actually the reason how Ed Sheeran got his very first hit on my charts!

Yeah, but they released the second single of their upcoming album, just in time :)

Thank you so much :D

Thanks for checking out "The Reckoning" and i'm very happy to hear you're enjoying it!
Believe it or not, but I actually remember VERY well how you checked out their song "Paradise (What About Us?)" featuring Tarja nearly exactly five years ago (it was their last lead single) and the reason why I remember it so well is because you were so impressed with their vocal performances, and it even made your daily chart <3

Glad you're liking these two. Both are positive surprises, especially Rita's track, as i was worried her era would already be over after "Girls". I agree about "Venice Bitch" - it's actually her best single since "High By The Beach" for me :o

Glad we both agree on "The Reckoning" being LP-esque. Have you checked out the music video yet? It is quite amazing for a rock music video! Cool special effects and I love the theme!

Oh, maybe Beyond the Black will grow on you ;) I am sure they will find a place among your favourite Symphonic Metal bands someday. Damn, it really sucks they aren't the support act for all WT dates :(

No, i haven't seen the video yet. Hopefully soon. I still love the video for "Paradise" and from the pictures i've seen "The Reckoning" has a similar video :)

Who knows? :) The concert would have been such a nice possibility, to get more into them. Really don't get why they aren't the support act for the Swiss date...
But hey, i have to say there aren't even that many Symphonic Metal artists in my library. NW and WT are my two obvious faves, but then there's a big gap and then comes Epica, and Beyond The Black are on a similar level as Epica already.

thanks so much for all comments

My Charts - week 40/2018 – 4 october 2018 - a very busy week
.
    Singles Top40
    Image Image Image
Spoiler:
Due to a busy week on the album charts plus lots of other new songs that were released last Friday, this week has a massive 11 new arrivals and three re-entries, making it one of the busiest non-ESC week of the year. And even though the competition was strong yet again, Within Temptation claims a third consecutive week atop the Singles Top40 with “The Reckoning”, tying it with Ariana Grande’s “God Is A Woman” and Leaves’ Eyes’ “Across The Sea” as the song with the most consecutive weeks atop the charts this year so far, but still behind the aforementioned “God Is A Woman” when it comes to the longest running number one song of the year overall, as that one got four weeks at number one in total. The amount of songs with three or more weeks atop the charts rises to six, which is already double as many as last year. “The Reckoning” also passed 200 plays during the week, making it the fifth most played song of the year so far.

The highest debut belongs to Lady Gaga. Following a successful era with her last album “Joanne”, the singer will be part of the “A Star Is Born” soundtrack, which comes out tomorrow. Its lead single is called “Shallow”, a duet with actor Bradley Cooper, who gets his very first chart notation with it, while Lady Gaga scores yet another Top3 entry as it’s new at #2. It’s her seventh consecutive Top3 peak, as her last song not to reach that part of the charts came out in late 2014. It’s her 30th chart entry in total, with all but one of them reaching the Top10. The Top3 is closed by a rather surprising climber: “Build A House” by Swiss singer Stefanie Heinzmann featuring German DJ and producer Alle Farben (17-3). It becomes the highest charting track ever for both artists.

Other new and re-entries this week: Six of the 11 new entries made the Top10, making it one of the busiest weeks for the Top10 ever. Being expected as one of the biggest songs of the year, the all star collaboration “Taki Taki” by DJ Snake featuring Ozuna, Cardi B and Selena Gomez didn’t turn out as massive as expected, especially due to a rather short part by Selena Gomez, who is one of the most successful artists ever on my charts. The track still has a good debut at #4. It’s followed by “Diamond Heart”, the new single by Norwegian DJ and producer Alan Walker and singer Sophia Somajo. While this marks the first entry for the latter, it’s Alan’s sixth chart notation and ties “Sing Me To Sleep” as his third highest peaking one, only behind his breakthrough hit “Faded” (#1 in 2016) and the recent “Darkside” (#2 this summer). From one Norwegian artist to another, singer-songwriter Aurora makes her comeback after two and a half years with the new single “Queendom”. It immediately becomes her highest peaking track ever and her first Top10 entry by arriving at #8. She’s directly followed by yet another fellow Scandinavian artist: Amaranthe. Following their short-lived #1 hit “365” (out this week after six weeks), “Countdown” serves as the second single of their upcoming album “Helix” and keeps their perfect Top10 ratio by debuting at #9. The sixth and final debut in the Top10 belongs to Irish rock band Kodaline. Even though they’ve released already their third album, “Brother” becomes their very first entry as a lead artist ever (#10), and they even get a second entry this week as “Shed A Tear” also makes it to #35.

Apart from the Top10 arrivals, none of the other five debuts or three re-entries made the upper half and are below the Top20. Following the release of Mylène Farmer’s new album “Désobéissance”, her collaboration with LP called “N’oublie pas” makes a re-entry at #25. Another re-entry belongs to Shawn Mendes, who is back at #30 with “Lost In Japan” following the release of a remix with Zedd. The third and final re-entry is “Don’t Leave Me Alone” by David Guetta and Anne-Marie at #37. German ESC represent Michael Schulte is new at #26 with his new single “Never Let You Down”, which is already a few spots higher than his ESC entry “You Let Me Walk Alone” (#29). Rock band Muse will soon release their new album “Simultation Theory”, with “Pressure” already being the third entry from the record from them at #28. Alison Sudol, formerly known as A Fine Frenzy, enters the charts at #38 with “Moon”, the first track of her upcoming EP with the same name. The singer already appeared on the charts a year ago, though “Enough Honey” only made it to #39. She already collected two bigger hits under her old stage name A Fine Frenzy, with the number one and Platinum certified hit “Almost Lover” (2008) and the Top20 hit “Now Is The Start” (2012). Last but not least, the eleventh debut belongs to Olly Murs, who makes a little comeback as the new single “Moves” starts at #40.

Other talking points this week: Due to all these new and re-entries, it’s obvious to see lots of big drops this week. “Venice Bitch” by Lana Del Rey (2-6) and “Right Now” by Nick Jonas & Robin Schulz (4-7) both have a rather small drop. Especially Lana’s second week is rather surprising considering her last few singles all had a big second week drop. Also having a smaller drop than most others is Avril Lavigne’s “Head Above Water”, which still suffers from the new entries. The track descends 8-11, but would have reached a deserved new peak in a less busier week. After impressive chartruns, Ariana Grande’s “God Is A Woman” has to leave the Top10 for its first time (6-13) while “No Tears Left To Cry” is doing it only for its second week (7-18). Also worth a mention is the stability of Cher’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” (14-15) and Calvin Harris & Sam Smith’s “Promises” (15-16), with the former slightly benefitting from the “Dancing Queen” album release.

Stefanie Heinzmann’s “Build A House” is the biggest climber while Kesha’s “Here Comes The Change” (19-32) and Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie Dreams” (20-33) both share the title as the biggest loser this week.

.

My Charts - week 40/2018 – 4 october 2018 - a very busy week
.
    Album Top20
    Image Image Image
Spoiler:
It’s not only a busy week on the Singles Top40, but also on the Album Top20, as there are five new entries, with four of them making the Top10 while the fifth just misses them. Noah Cyrus is still ahead of them all though, as her “Good Cry” EP spends a second week atop the charts. It’s a nice coincidence, as her big sister Miley Cyrus debuted atop the charts with her last album “Younger Now” exactly a year ago.

Noah’s biggest competition came from Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora, who has released a mini album called “Infections Of A Different Kind – Step 1”. It arrives at #2, which is a spot higher than the peak of her debut album “All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend” from early 2016. Carrie Underwood’s “Cry Pretty” dips 2-3 and makes the Top3 complete.

Other new entries this week: Cher is a legend and already released tons of albums, but her ABBA-cover album “Dancing Queen” not only becomes her very first notation ever, but also makes a good debut as it’s new at #4. Mylène Farmer is definitely a legend too, at least in French-speaking countries, and the singer also gets her first notation with the new set “Désobéissance” (#7). She’s directly followed by Kodaline, who, yet again, also get their first chart entry on the album charts with “Politics Of Living” (#8). As shortly mentioned, the fifth of all new entries didn’t make the Top10, and that’s “O”, the sophomore album by German singer MarieMarie. MarieMarie tried to represent Germany on the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with “Cotton Candy Hurricane”, and even though she didn’t make it, she still got three charts entries, including the number one single “Candy Jar”. Her debut album “Dream Machine” peaked at #2 for three consecutive weeks. Four and a half years later, “O” wasn’t able to spawn a hit single yet and also only makes it to #11 on the Album Top20.

Other talking points this week: Many new releases means many drops. Tory Kelly’s “Hiding Place” (7-12), Bebe Rexha’s “Expectations” (9-13), Christine And The Queen’s “Chris” (5-14) and Beyond The Black’s “Heart Of The Hurricane” (10-17) are all leaving the Top10. Meanwhile, Tarja’s “Act II” is able to rise two spots (20-18) as the only climber of the week.

Hey Tansike :D

Time to check out the goodies.

2 (NEW) Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper – Shallow

When i first read about A star is born, i was worried that Lady Gaga was about to unveil Joanne pt 2 which i was hoping wouldn't happen. Shallow has turned to be an outstanding single, such a beautiful ballad and i kinda get goosebumps too. Some people have said they don't like the crowd applause but for me, it adds atmosphere to the song and really elevates the song. Have you seen the movie yet, or are planning on going to watch this at the cinema?

4 (NEW) DJ Snake feat. Selena Gomez, Cardi B & Ozuna – Taki Taki

What a disappointing single this turned out to be. It ended up sounding nothing like what i expected, and by "expected" i mean Selena being the most prominent feature on the song. I thought it'd be along the same lines as Fetish for some reason, but this gets boring so fast. Too much Ozuna on the track. :x

5 (NEW) Alan Walker & Sophia Somajo – Diamond Heart

Diamond heart is amazing. :o I've like a few of Alan Walker's singles although none have come close to the success of Faded in my chart...until now! There is a big battle for #1 in my own chart tomorrow and it's gonna come down to the wire.

10 (NEW) Kodaline – Brother

Gosh, so happy to see Brother making its appearance finally. :D I adored this song and its music video when it was first released, but Kodaline have really lost me with their subsequent singles. None of them have had anywhere near as much impact on me compared to Brother.

28 (NEW) Muse – Pressure

Pressure is my favourite track so far from the upcoming new Muse album. The music video is also whacky and funny which makes the song more enjoyable too.

40 (NEW) Olly Murs feat. Snoop Dogg – Moves

Poor Olly, he really has lost his way in the world of pop. As long as he continues releasing such subpar pop songs, he'll never have another successful hit in the UK charts. I do admire Olly for his persistence but he seriously needs to get better material because Moves isn't doing it for me. :(

Best of the rest (because there's always so many songs i love each week 8-) )

6 (2) Lana Del Rey – Venice Bitch
7 (4) Nick Jonas & Robin Schulz – Right Now
11 (8) Avril Lavigne – Head Above Water
12 (3) Rita Ora – Let You Love Me
13 (6) Ariana Grande – God Is A Woman *P*
16 (15) Calvin Harris & Sam Smith – Promises
17 (11) Lana Del Rey – Mariners Apartment Complex
18 (7) Ariana Grande – No Tears Left To Cry *2xP*
19 (10) BTS feat. Nicki Minaj – Idol
21 (12) Carrie Underwood – Love Wins
22 (16) Troye Sivan – Bloom
23 (18) Lindsey Stirling – First Light *P*
24 (13) Years & Years – All For You
25 (RE) Mylène Farmer & LP – N’oublie pas
27 (33) Carrie Underwood feat. Ludacris – The Champion
31 (26) Nicki Minaj – Ganja Burn
32 (19) Kesha – Here Comes The Change
36 (29) Bebe Rexha – I’m A Mess *P*

Honey! You really have to watch the video. The special effects are so good! - Especially since it seems that they have already shot the music video for the second single... you better hurry up!

Ok, that drop for Beyond the Black really hurts and it seems that "Heart of the Hurricane" will be out next week. The lead singer, Jennifer Haben, just liked my status on Facebook (yay! That was cool). She even used the heart emoji which was totally nice ;)

But since you said that Beyond The Black are already on a joint #3 rank with Epica when it comes to Symphonic Metal bands, I can't complain ;)

If I have to rank groups of that genre, it would probably like this:

#1 Within Temptation
#2 Nightwish
#3 Epica
#4 Beyond The Black
#5 Lacuna Coil
#6 Indica (basically just the "A Way Away" album)
#7 Delain
#8 Kamelot
#9 Imperia
#10 Xandria

When it comes to your new charts, I love to see WT still being #1. "Taki Taki" is not my cup of tea but I saw the teaser on FB.. the music video is going to be freaking hot! Selegend Godmez looks fantastic! Hopefully, it will help me to finally like this trashy song :D

It's nice to see Olly's new single debut! - Even though #40 is a bit low but I can totally understand why you placed it there... it's a bit bland...
btw, I updated the "Mainshow Goes Dicks" thread and three more singles by Olly Murs just dropped. Would be glad to see you there.. maybe you will like the singles more than the Snoop Dogg collab?

I like the new entries for Muse and Michael Schulte as well! - Personally, I prefer Schulte's new single to his Eurovision entry by miles! I was very close to buying that track haha. I checked Amaranthe's "Countdown" and I still don't know what to think about that band. Their sound is interesting, cheesy, trashy and amazing at the same time... I should give them another try.

Hey Jake :D

I didn’t know you didn’t bother about “Joanne” that much?! It’s actually a very good album… but I guess I know what you’re meaning. Very glad to hear you’re enjoying “Shallow” now, and I hope you’ll check out some of the soundtrack songs as well, as there are some pop tunes from her too! The crowd applause was annoying for me too so I agreed with these people, but it actually grew on me and now I think similar to you, it fits the song quite well. I didn’t see the movie yet… I want to, but I have to find someone who comes with me. Maybe I’ll end up watching it on Netflix or so once it’s out there… what about you? Are you going to see it?

Agreed! It’s confusing how they’re crediting Selena as the first feature when she’s the last one who appears and basically has the shortest part (well, probably as short as Cardi’s part). I expected a track with Ozuna and Cardi having verses while Selena sings the chorus, or something like that. They probably just wanted the fans to download/stream it

This is quite a surprising #1 on your charts to be honest – but it’s so well deserved! I love how Alan got back to releasing so strong singles, as I’ve already loved “Darkside”. Fingers crossed this also becomes the hit it deserved to be :)

JakeP wrote:10 (NEW) Kodaline – Brother

I’m so freaking late with this, I know! But since they finally released their album, I have this in my library as well now and I agree that none of their other singles come even close to this. As you probably still remember, I discovered this song also already over a year ago as the band of my partner covered this, though I think I’ve actually never heard the original in full until a week ago :o  Should have been a hit on my charts AGES ago to be honest :(

JakeP wrote:28 (NEW) Muse – Pressure

I think I have to agree. The others were just a one-week-thing for me, like, I enjoyed them for a week and already got over them the week after. “Pressure” seems to have a slightly better effect on me, the track itself but also its video, which I think is awesome!

JakeP wrote:40 (NEW) Olly Murs feat. Snoop Dogg – Moves

Same :( He has the potential, but slowly I feel like it may be too late…

#10 Xandria
I’m surprised by myself how the video is nowhere near atop of my To-Do-List to be honest  I’m really not into videos it seems! But I’m sure I’ll watch it soon.

I knew you wouldn’t like that drop for Beyond The Black at all but it’s just… I don’t know. You know, I (try) to play every album from my charts at least once every week to see how I like them compared to the others, and Beyond The Black really was one of the albums which made the weakest impression on me last week. The first few songs are awesome but the whole record drags on for a bit too long IMO. But Epica also took me some time to really enjoy them…
Woah, that’s awesome! I wish one of my faves would do that to my status

Well, it depends on who the Symphonic Metal bands are. I forgot Amaranthe… but I guess they’re not really a Symphonic Metal band, right? I forgot Leaves’ Eyes, who are between NW/WT and Epica/Beyond The Black… not sure how to judge The Dark Element, are they a Symphonic Metal band? They would be quite high as well, of course. Arch Enemy also came to my mind in the meantime, but they’re not really Symphonic Metal so I don’t include them… So my ranking would be:

#1 Nightwish
#2 Within Temptation (depends on my mood who is #1, but NW has more songs which I like so…)
#3 The Dark Element
#4 Leaves’ Eyes
#5 Epica / Beyond The Black
#6 Indica (forgot about them, never really enjoyed them that much, so there'd be a big gap between them and #5 :( )

No surprise to hear your love for my #1 <3 Let’s see how many more weeks are possible
Aww… I hope the video will make you enjoy “Taki Taki”. It’s definitely not what I was hoping for and it’s just not enough Selena, but her part is great, and overall the song is still good enough for me. I guess it helps that I’m enjoying Cardi B too, but I guess you’re not really a fan of her?

Yes for Olly, the new song is solid but also bland. He could do SO much better! I have to follow your countdown… his discography is actually quite strong!

I agree when it comes to Michael Schulte’s new song – it’s also better than his ESC song for me. You’re still buying everything, right? So you’re not using Spotify or Apple Music?
As for Amaranthe… a week after the release, I have to say “Countdown” is actually quite a disappointment to me and is likely to have a terrible drop on my upcoming charts. I’m still excited for their upcoming album and maybe you’ll check it out too – you’re description about their sound sounds pretty accurate by the way :)

Lacuna Coil is my #1, because it's more a raw melodic death metal/alternative metal than gothic metal.
