I thought about creating a game where you compete with singers rather than albums, songs or themes. The way this would work is each competition (much like 'Ludus' would feature a different theme. You would use this broad theme to choose two artists. After this, a set of themes will be released. Each week a different song will be competing, although the songs will have been chosen before the competition begins. So for example, if a theme is "love songs" you will nominate your artist's best love song. The artist that scores the lowest will be eliminated until we are left with two and then a winner. I thought it would be a great idea to look at the catalogues of artists you may not know.

There are several themes I was thinking of to start with:
-Female singers from the 70s or 80s
-Artists who were once band members
-Grammy winners

Please vote in the poll which of the three you'd like to play! It should be a really fun game: I've seen something similar on another forum so I thought it would be a great game for everyone.

Also, when we have decided the theme, please PM me the acts you would like as there will be a reveal on here of sorts.

So our theme is... Women of the 70s and 80s!

Image

Please PM me any two female artists that had released music in either of the two decades. You'll recieve further instructions from there!

Cool! Well she's free to be chosen by any participants! The majority of her catalogue is outside of the decade however.

Just sent my songs. It was fun to come up with creative choices, especially since I didn't know much about my own nominees.

I liked the different song type options although some are hard to place because of the artist in question. I would have liked more specific options too.

I've sent songs for one artist, will do the other tomorrow or Saturday. :D

Theme One: Most Iconic Song
A great way to introduce our contestants of two of the most exciting decades of music. Please rank the contestants (12-1). We'll lose no contestants this week, but we will lose three next week. The scores from each week will be added together like a league table with the lowest scoring contestant leaving!
Whilst the theme was the 70s and 80s, songs outside of the decade have been allowed, however it is up to you as to whether this affects your votes. The round will close Wednesday evening, so make sure to vote ASAP!

12 points (favorite): Lara Fabian - Je Suis Malade
11 points: Linda Eder - Bring on the Men
10 points: Madonna - Vogue
09 points: Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen
08 points: Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
07 points: Donna Summer - Love to Love You Baby
06 points: Janet Jackson - I Get Lonely
05 points: Christine McVie - Got a Hold on Me
04 points: Kirsty MacColl - In These Shoes?
03 points: Marianne Faithfull - The Ballad of Lucy Jordan
02 points: Joni Mitchell - A Case of You
01 point: Ana Belén - España Camisa Blanca De Mi Esperanza

I had to listen to six of the songs as I was not familiar with them.
It is always hard to judge a song you have only heard once, but I immediately took a liking to Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks. Maybe because it had this very familiar sound (that Janet sampled).

How can anyone not like that performance? :o :( :-?
No one could sing that acappella bit like her and bring the audience up on their feet for a standing ovation.
