I need this album on Youtube like yesterday, I can't hear "With You" and many other songs off that album ANYWHERE.

This album was utter trash and did nothing to demonstrate how she sustained such a long career in the music industry. There are probably three good songs on it, one of which was Enjoy.

So the debate is, which album is worse - this or 'Discipline'. Like I did in the 'Damita Jo' thread, I'll rank the songs from both albums

1. Take Care (10)
2. Curtains (10)
3. LUV (9.5)
4. Rock With U (9.5)
5. Feedback (9)
6. So Excited (8.5)
7. Do It 2 Me (8)
8. Roll Witchu (7.5)

9. So Much Betta (7)
10. Call On Me (7)
11. Show Me (6.5)
12. Enjoy (6)

13. Discipline (6)
14. Rollercoaster (5.5)
15. Daybreak (5.5)
16. With U (5.5)

17. Never Letchu Go (5)
18. Can't B Good (5)
19. Love 2 Love (4)
20. 2nite (4)
21. Let Me Know (3)
22. What's Ur Name (3)
23. Days Go By (2.5)
24. This Body (1.5)
25. Get It Out Me (1)

26. Greatest X (1)
27. The 1 (feat Missy Elliott) (1)

Looking at it this way, I think 20 Y.O. is easily the better album of the two. I've always said it sounded cohesive whereas 'Discipline' lacked a theme and was just a random bunch of pre-made songs thrown together, with no coherence at all.

'Discipline' is not as bad as people make it to be. The thing is it's too formulaic and lacks Janet's artistry. It's a shame she didn't pen or produce any song on that album.

Show Me 7/10
Get it Out Me 5/10
Do it 2 Me 4/10
This Body 3/10
With U 7/10
Call On Me 6/10
Daybreak 7/10
Enjoy 8/10
Take Care 9/10
Love 2 Love 4/10
Roll Withchu 6/10
Days Go By 5/10

Average: 5,5/10

Discpline:

Feedback 9/10
LUV 7/10
Rollercoaster 6/10
Rock With U 8/10
2nite 7/10
Can't B Good 6/10
Never Letchu Go 6/10
Greatest X 4/10
So Much Betta 5/10
The 1 5/10
What's Ur Name 6/10
Discipline 10/10
Curtains 9/10
Let Me Know 5/10

Average: 6,64

Both are weak but 20 Y.O. was a real mess, sounds unispired, boring and sometimes like trying too much to sound hot and failing at it. The worst part of Discipline is the lack of Janet's essence on it and all the Kyoko stuff (that is LAME)

If you can't remember Take Care, you should definitely listen to it. The JanFam pretty much agrees that it's the best song on there, with that Jam and Lewis magic.

That song is kind of the only good thing about 20 Y.O.

Enjoy always sounded contrived to me. Not a big fan of it and think it's so overrated.

Enjoy is sublime her vocals, the prodution, lyrics that and Take Care are really the only songs on the album with her trademark sound.

This was the first album I wasn't so excited (hehe) about. The first single with Nelly turned me off. JD is ok and works well with other artists - but his productions with Janet don't do it for me. I like my Janet with JJ & TL at the helm. They're magical together. While they did work on some of this album, it's apparent to me that JD killed the typical Janet album vibe and even their tracks together are serviceable at best. So Excited is good but not great. I would love to hear a version of it without JD's input.

Admittedly, I'm a biased 80s kid who grew up with her 80s and 90s albums... when I played every song, every interlude front to back hundreds of times. Omitting her 2 pre-Control albums, 20 YO is at the bottom of her discography for me. Discipline was an improvement, and then many years later she got back on track with Unbreakable.

I keep listening to this from time to time, thinking it'll click and improve with time... but that has yet to happen.

Jermaine was so obsessed with selling Janet out since he was able to make career highs for Usher and Mariah Carey. "Call on Me" was such a cheap copycat of "Dilemma", he obviously crafted her comeback based on what was hot in the radio at the time. He was so pressured to create a Confessions or The Emancipation of Mimi for Janet, but he forgot that Janet wasn't the typical R&B artist who relied on being current and sounding mainstream.

Whatever released we all know would bomb at the time.
