This song could be the song of the summer this year! The last week it topped the Spanish Singles Chart. I think they are from Romania, "Dragostea Din Tei" sooo catchy, I don't know much about them, this is the single cover, please download this song and tell me what do you think about it, download the original, not the remix  .

This song was riding high on the Italian chart a couple of months ago, but by a group called Haiducii featuring Gabry Ponte (of Eiffel 'Blue' 65 fame).
It's a common thing nowadays; pan-European hits released by different artists at the same time (like Obsesion or Papi chulo).
Dragostea din tei is a catchy song indeed but I don't think it will be much of a hit. :-?

Both versions have been promoted to UK DJs, but it's reckoned that the O-Zone version will dominate, which Jive Records are currently handling.

Promo CDr was mailed 2-3 weeks back:

O-Zone 'Dragosteada Dibn Tei' - Jive Records

1. Original Romanian Version
2. Almighty Mix
3. DJ Radio Ross Remix
4. DJ Radio Ross Extended Remix
5. Unu In The Dub Mix
6. Almighty Dub

An interesting track, quite catchy - not sure whether the fact that it's sung in Romanian will prove an obstacle to UK success.

o zone is a group from republic of moldavia (which is near the romanian border)
the lyrics of the song (in romanian of course) is
I:
Alo, salut, sunt eu, un haiduc
Si te rog, iubirea mea, primeste fericirea.
II:
Alo, alo, sunt eu, Picasso
Ti-am dat beep si sunt voinic
Dar sa stii, nu-ti cer nimic.

(x2):
Vrei sa pleci dar nu-ma, nu-ma iei
Nu-ma, nu-ma iei, nu-ma, nu-ma, nu-ma iei
Chipul tau si dragostea din tei
Mi-amintesc de ochii tai.

III:
Te sun sa-ti spun ce simt acum
Alo, iubirea mea sunt eu, fericirea.
IV:
Alo, alo, sunt iarasi eu, Picasso
Ti-am dat beep si sunt voinic
Dar sa stii, nu-ti cer nimic.

The song is already in the spaniard charts, top 20 cd singles and also top 100 airplay.
In Russia is also a hit.

Meh, I'm still a bit undecided on this one, but I could have said the same for 'The Ketchup Song'. To my ears, this just comes across as something that just won't work in the UK - the dancefloor reaction over the past few weeks has corroborated this, with a lot of folk put off immediately by the Romanian lyrics.

It's still too early to make a firm prediction as to its success - 'The Ketchup Song' was also a dancefloor flop prior to its release - two weeks after it hit the charts, that swiftly changed.

Ive not really heard much about this song in the UK yet, although that could be because they are waiting till summer till release it(?). I can see the comparisons The Ketchup Song and Eiffel 65... so if that is anything to go by this should be a success.

However, non English tracks tend not to create too much success unless they are catchy enough.. but then again there was the Ketchup Song and Macarena :-?

Personally I quite like it as far as novelty tracks go, and I hope it doesn't flop!.

That sleeve cover is a joke! :o

I think it's likely to reach #1 now, especially as they've moved it back from the busy week! :)

So, with this looking set to enter the top 5 this afternoon, could this be a big summer tune?

I'd say so, and deservedly so!...has anybody heard the DJ Ross Remix?, it absolutely rocks, not as good as his 'Dreamland' track, but still! :D

I actually love this!

It's very odd that I hate cheesy pop, but I tend to love cheesy dance.

Just out of interest, could anyone translate what they're saying?

Can't believe I actually bought this, it's gonna be in my head for weeks! Still, not complaining. 8-)

O Zone - Love Under The Linden Tree (Dragostea Din Tei):

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

Hello, it's me, a haiduc*
And I pray, my love, embrace the happiness
Hello, hello, it's me Picasso,
I gave you beep, and i'm neat
But know that i'm not asking you anything.

Refrain:
You want to go, but you don't take me, no
You don't take me, no, you don't take me noo..
Your face and the love under the linden tree
Remind me of your eyes.

I'm calling you to say, what i'm feeling now
Hello, my love, it's me happiness
Hello, hello, it's me again, Picasso
I gave you a beep, and i'm neat
But know that i'm not asking you anything.

Refrain [...]

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

Refrain [...]
