Girls Aloud's Tiff over Christmas

GIRLS ALOUD are making a bid for Christmas No1 with an Eighties cover.

I know there is still months to go but the music industry is already gearing up for the big festive countdown.

The ladies — CHERYL COLE, KIMBERLEY WALSH, SARAH HARDING, NADINE COYLE and NICOLA ROBERTS — have recorded a version of I Think We’re Alone Now, a hit in 1988 for American teen sensation TIFFANY,.

The Californian resurfaced in reality TV show Hit Me Baby One More Time last year.

The girls have already got one Christmas No1 under their elaborately decorated belts.

They went to the top in 2002 with debut single Sound Of The Underground.

Hmmm interesting...

This soes sound interesting. :o

It wouldn't be the same if they girls didn't go for the Christmas #1. Can't say I remember the song though, I was probably too young to remember it. I'll probably recognise it once I hear it. 8-)

Hello,
It is not a 1980's Tiffany cover. She covered it in 1988.

It was a Number 4 USA Hit for Tommy James & The Shondells in 1967. Tiffany covered it in 1988.

Well Tiffany's version is the most famous that people will know. I've never heard of the other.

Tommy James & The Shondells had some big hits in the 60's, they made the original version so I think it's right to recognize that merit

^Yep, but it makes a good title.
It might be good but what's the point? Can't imagine it being better than the first two versions.

Yeah, this song is adored by chavs.

I remember last week, I walked past chavs burning up a Nova and this song was blasting out...or was it Beyonce. :-?

I really don't know about this. I can see them making a pretty good version of this, but my instinct tells me that this song shouldn't be covered! :-?

Ha, yeah, the chavs do love their 80s pop.

Didn't an AATW dance producer aim for Christmas number one with a cover of 'I Think We're Alone Now' a few years back?

It's unlikely that Girls Aloud will be able to compete with the X Factor winner and the other high profile acts that are likely to aim for Christmas number one. They should bring the release forward a week or so to keep their run of top10s intact.

There gonna be blowned out, britney spears is set to have requested to cover this song for her 2007 album...

someone should notify girls aloud management, this is just stupid, its like girls aloud covering "easy" and sugababes releasing it the same week, which people dont know "easy" by sugababes is indeed a cover they borrowed the chorus from a 80's song, dont remembe which one. lol

Hmm.. sounds unlikely. Why release a big new track a few weeks after a new album, when it's not on the album?

Unless it's a b-side...

so why should everyone do what Britney wants? She doesnt own the rights to the song. Girls Aloud will of had to have permission to record the song and permission to release it so therefore they have just as much right to release.

Is it? Not on the press release, or on Amazon's listing or on the promo version of the album...

I hate this song, it's so lifeless. A big Walkabout song.

I can confirm, its true.

I've heard the Girls Aloud recording of it.

Maybe it'll grow on me but I just keep thinking it was such a bad choice of song to rerecord. Cheese of the highest level.

I've also heard Money, its good. Cheryl is brilliant in it.
