30 years ago, on July 27h 1983, debut album by a new artist called Madonna was released. It includes all time Madonna classics Lucky Star, Borderline, Everybody and Holiday. For me it aged well, i can still listen to it without getting bored. What do you think?

Happy Bday Madonna album!

I will be listening to you today 8-)

I would have never guessed in the early 80s, when hearing this R&B influenced track on the dancefloor that this little sexy voice would be one of the World's biggest stars ever.

Lucky Star: One of the first Madonna videos I ever saw. Thought it was soooo sexy with her curling way back and showing off her bra. Red ears! A brilliant song. Very catchy. 9/10

Borderline: Such a strong song and videoclip. Sweet, catchy... love everything about it. 10/10

Burning Up: I prefer the version I heard first when I bought it on tape. It's more 'disco' than the 'rock' version that was released on CD. Also a great 12" version. The coversleeve of the 12" is one of my all time favorite Madonna coversleeves. 9/10

I Know It: Great song. Especially this part: Take your love and run from me, is this the way love's supposed to be..." 9/10

Holiday: One of my all time favorite Madonna songs. Catchy, feel good lyrics. The song that got me intrested in Madonna way back in 1984. It will always be special to me. 10/10

Think Of Me: Another great song that never tires me. Especially this part: Stop wasting all my time, you know it could have been so fine, hey boy I'm waiting on a sign, don't you think of someone else, stop thinking of yourself... 10/10

Physical Attraction: Wow, I thought this was sooooo sexy way back in the day. Great song. I do prefer the edit version though. 9/10

Everybody: A great anthem to start of a career. May favorite version has to be the You Can Dance Edit. 9/10

Physical Attraction is my favorite of this classic album.

As a struggling underdog singer in NYC myself, This album means a lot to me. I rehearsed for months in the Music Building where Madonna lived and rehearsed and met her first manager,

This album is a classic and will always be.

Also 5 songs on it were written by Madonna herself, and story behind her struggling days and how she made it from 1977 to 1983 to finally release this record is impressive

<3 this album always :D 8-)

Of course she has "deeper" albums and her voice improved as she got older, but there is a certain rawness and freshness to her debut album that she has never been able to recapture after she became more famous

While the singles are all classic, I also LOVE Physical Attraction.

I adore this, one of the best 80's albums. Physical Attraction is 6:40 pure bliss, unfortunately very underrated.

An OK album, but she progressed a lot with her next few studio albums!

What irritates a bit is that all songs are basically 2:30s that are repeated again and again to go for 5 or even 6 minutes, but it seems like that was normal for the early 80s.

Not really legendary, but quite iconic... Maybe a deeper song wouldn't have hurt but therefore you could check out her 90s albums as well!

Say no to streaming!

Am I the only that thinks it is a crime that the original 4:49 long Burning Up version included in the first pressings of the album is not available on CD/Digital Download yet?

^ That's something I found rather irritating after having bought the cd version of the album.

In my mind this is always among my least favourite Madonna albums but been playing it this week has reminded me how strong it is. Lucky Star, Borderline and Hoilday are undeniable pop classics and Burning Up will forever be one of my favourite Madonna songs. But this week I have fallen in love with Physical Attraction a song I have really over looked untill know.

I was also very disappointed. When I bought the cd I was very surprised (in a bad way).
Still, it did get a cd release in Japan on 3" cdsingle. I especially bought it to have the 'right' version finally.

In fairness most of us weren't born 30 years ago to start a thread ;)

I love this album. It's not her best work and its far from her worst. What I love - and disappeared after her TB album - is that hunger in her voice. She's not the best singer (although she is my favourite singer), but you can hear and feel that determination for success on this album.

Sometimes it's refreshing to think that once up Madonna was just another popstar sitting on top of a wedding cake hoping that when she sang, something good would come out. This album captures this and more, and rightly deserves its place as one of the most important albums of the 80s.

What I'm trying to say is that not even a slightest chance of having this thread in the past 13 years of UKMix existence, considering there are a lot of Madonna fans in here.

Exactly. Even Madonna struggled to remember the words to her own songs once she hit 40.

I think this is my favorite 80s Madonna album. It's fresh, raw and I love her early voice.

Borderline is one of my favorite Madonna songs. It sounds so fresh and cool even today. And the album is pretty damn good too.
