British singer Sam Smith has said he want to make music that inspires gay youths.
The four-time Grammy-winner said he hoped his debut album, which he wrote about his unrequited love for a straight man, would comfort gay youths for years to come.
'I'm just trying to make music that stands the test of time. So that, in 400 years, when a little kid who's gay listens to In the Lonely Hour, or my next record, he will be inspired,' he told the London Evening Standard.
The singer also vowed to be a 'different type of pop star' who is the same in his personal life as he is under the spotlight.
'I want to be a different type of pop star. I want to be a pop star who's not Photoshopped, who's straight-on human... Honesty is timeless,' he said.
Last week, In the Lonely Hour returned to number one in the UK after his Grammy wins.
