She's probably waiting to record one last background ad lib that no one will hear anyway 2 minutes into the song. We wouldn't want another bathroom floor moment if that one part wasn't perfect

Same.
She could drop some remixes in the meantime tho.

Can we agree that "The Roof" is the most loved/praised song from Mariah's whole catalog by the lambily?
I feel that way...
Surely some fans have other favorites, but the song it's always present in the Top 10 in the rankings we make.

The roof still sounds brand new. It sounds more current than almost anything on MIAMTEC. One of her best sample usages of all time. What a genius.

Funny 'cause I love (and generally prefer) songs with big climaxes and crazy vocal acrobatics, yet my favorite tracks by her are the ones with more restrained vocals...

My current Top 5 in no particular order, except for the #1

The Roof
Looking In
Petals
Dedicated
Close My Eyes

not only the lambily worships it...

music critics as well... if she ever had a clear chance of winning a grammy out of the blue, it would have been with The Roof. It has never been submitted tho...

Imagine any other act sitting on a song like this... anybody with a brain would have promoted the ish out of it. But with Mariah.... she kept sitting on it and was already down with the next album when she debuted Butterfly.

Butterfly was the perfect album to last from 1997-2000, literally every single track should have become a well promoted single.

But I cannot even be mad at the singles choice... i mean Honey, My All and Butterfly all slayed careers. It was a HUGE shame tho that Butterfly did not receive a physical single.

The Roof would have sat at #1 on urban and R&B for decades - if released.

I so hope that she will perform again... imagine her recreating the video for a live concert... everybody would faint.

The Roof is the only song that could turn the critics around in realizing how unfair they've been to her. I mean even Rolling Stone stans the song and they literally have Taylor Swift above her on their alltime lists.
The 5 artists I knew first in my life were: Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Take That and Elton John

I was just listening to "The Roof" a few days ago and was thinking how beautiful the song was written. It's not exactly my favorite from her but it's among my top ten favorites from her. The song is a masterpiece, musically and lyrically wise.

This is such an exquisite list. +Outside (although that one serves crazy vocals as well)

I think the Roof is indisputably her best track. It's not my favorite, it's not the most popular, but it's her best work.

Arguably, the fact that it never got a full single release but did get a video and some remixes makes it even more special.

Hi everyone! I'm new here but I've been reading this site for sooo long!
"The Roof" is such a masterpiece, I love it since the album was released. I totally love the softened vocals and the sample they used. This is a proof that a great song does not have to include big vocals. Mariah is recognized as a vocalist, but to me the most important thing is her songwriting. "The Roof" also pictures my emotions from very specific day in my life... but it took 20 years to happen 8-)

I wish she would perform The Roof live in full again.
