People say ONE SWEET DAY hasn't aged well....

Whilst I agree that it sounds dated, its a TRUE classic.
I'm glad the 90s song of the decade is getting lots of streams.

Nope.

Such a boring list. It's missing Star Power!
Mariah should have replaced Dianne Warren

The performances this year will be a snoozefest......

OSD simply doesn’t have the impact that other shorter lived number ones had such as ABMB, Hero, WBT etc. I’d even argue TMB.

I was a kid in early grade school when OSD came out so it still seems huge to me

I can see how it might not seem as big to younger lambs

ABMB was my ultimate fav when Daydream came out but it did not seem as big as OSD, though now it is definitely way more universal

Not a OSD fan - it really is too oversung to actually feel emotional. The remix is a hundred miles better though!

Don’t think many people in the UK would remember it

OSD is extremelly forgotten by general public even some pop music followers. Sadly.

I love the combination of Mimi and Boyz II Men's voices.

If One Sweet Day is "extremely forgotten" then it's not a good sign for the rest of her discography.

Though I agree with EAI that it may not have had the same impact as her other top songs, it is among her most streamed songs on Youtube (#8) and Spotify (#8).

This is despite it getting virtually zero recurrent radio airplay.

I know many people who do not know OSD and I'm shocked like you. Of course It is not forgettable for music history but I'm surprised that some general public don't know.

When random people think in Mariah Carey I think "Hero" is the first song remembered.

Will see if this has any impact on the song's streams there. Based on info I grabbed at the end of December, Always Be My Baby is Mariah's 3rd most-played song on Spotify behind AIWFCIY and WBT.
Come on duet!

how would you explain the song getting a quarter million views per day now... while the songs you mentioned - in some cases - stall at 40k?

That's because the song is universally loved for being so ignored by everyone.

It is also one of her casting show staples... along Hero and My All.

I think the problem regarding OSD’s longevity is its theme. As far as radios and clubs go, an old hit about losing a loved one doesn’t scream “airplay” and there’s not any dance remixes to get it as a recurrent club throwback either

Mariah’s Hero, Fantasy, and Always Be My Baby will still get their shine on throwback and AC radios stations and same with BIIM’s MotownPhilly, I’ll Make Love To You, and End Of The Road.

OSD streams and views IMO come from the fact that people die every day. As grim as that may sound, people still look to music to cope and what bigger “losing your loved ones” song is there? Perhaps “Seasons In The Sun” by Terry Jacks, but he alone isn’t the two biggest acts of the 90s coming together for a vocal masterpiece.

It’s true it’s not massively remembered, especially in Europe.

I was talking to my mate about Bryan Adams’ UK longest runner and I Said Mariah holds the record in America.. he said with what? And I said “OSD”.. he had no idea what it was.. and he’s 32.

I do like it but it’s never been my favourite. It’s just not that melodically catchy. I think Mariah’s together with Boys II Men’s star power at the time is purely the reason for its success.

OSD is incredible and one of the greatest duets of all-time. The fact that it has over 100 millions views and is growing enormously every day in 2018 is a huge testament to its staying power. The vocals and meaning of the song will endure for eternity.

Those who don't know it should learn. It's their loss.

If you are in your mid to late 20s or older and live in the U.S., you know One Sweet Day

You simply could not escape it that year and all throughout the 90s

The production on We Belong Together is more basic and timeless but I have noticed that I do not hear it as much as I used to from 2005-2015

The two Mariah singles that are not AIWFCIY and have never ceased to be played all the time here are Fantasy and Always Be My Baby

It is interesting how her international signature songs are different from those in the U.S.

Many of the songs that made a great impact here have lower YouTube views than some of these old ballads that I never hear anymore

Europe's "Without You," Asia's "Angels Cry," and Brazil's "I Wanna Know What Love Is" views seem so distorted from over here

Most of the views are probably coming from other countries besides the US. And it only recently started getting more views. If you ask people under 25 what their favorite Mariah song from the 90s is, no one is going to say OSD.
