Vision of Love vs. Can't Let Go is an unfair comparison since VOL is way bigger than the latter. And most non fans won't know CLG ever existed (personally I have only heared CLG during the TEOM era 4 years after I became a lamb). But CLG has a very special place in the hearts of almost all lambs because it takes you to an emotional rollercoaster from its sad theme and getting excited to hear the climax. It is sentimental and it vocals shows the vulnerable Mariah we've always loved.

To be fair, it should be CLG vs Loverboy hahahaha. Two extremely opposite tracks but both peaked at #2 at the Hot 100.

I'm so glad I'm not one of these people who judge songs based on their chart position
And it went two and it was taken out to benefit album sales but true, charts...

Don't dare come for VOL.
VOL is Mariah's most influential song of all time.
CLG never even reached #1.

VOL vs. CLG is like Mariah vs. Ariana
+1
+2
I think VOL is losing just because people are tired to see it every round but CLG is miles far from VOL.
It's time to dispense with the group think. VOL is a great song, it's iconic, but it's hardly her best one for a lot of fans. It is possible that people like Can't Let Go better, especially since she showed more versatility and agility on it.

I voted for CLG.
I agree that VOL is more important for Mariah and her career, but the poll isn't about what she would vote for.
CLG at MTV Unplugged made me a fan, so that song will always have a special place in my heart. Also she sang VOL... I don't know. ... maybe a 1000 times and I always enjoy it, but I'm not as excited about it as I would if she finally perfoms CLG again.

But, like with every poll, I would vote differently if asked two years ago or in 2 years, so its only a snapshot of my "current" mood or taste.
They have greatly oppressed me from my youth
But they have not gained victory over me

I've done the Mariah Fan Top 100 and although Can't Let Go usually ended up in the top 10, it was Vision Of Love that was the #1 fan favorite most years. Never beaten by Can't Let Go.

Wow, 10 years ago today I remember rushing home from school to listen to the premier of Touch My Body after false snippets of "secret love" were passed as Touch my Body! I was only in the 5th grade and I also remember fake lyrics surfacing weeks before with VERY graphic lyrics and I was afraid that the song was going to be something I was not allowed to listen to. The song was nothing like I expected when I first heard it. Her 18th number one! Wow, time flies.
F*ck off and lose my number.

I wouldn't say it killed the industry, but it's muddied the talent pool.

People often forget that music is a AURAL experience, not a visual one. Music is about vocals, production and songwriting. It's not about performance, image or choreography. Sure, they enhance the experience, but a good song is good with or without performance. Music doesn't NEED a video.

And while I do love music videos and while I enjoy Social Media, they've both taken focus away from the aural and given it to the visual. And what ends up happening is the music gets lost and people start to think that a flashy music video and a pretty Instagram account is what makes musical talent.
Apart from Adele and Lady Gaga, I really can't think of anyone from the current generation who I can truly call "musically talented".

Taylor Swift DOES write and produce her work but it's mostly rubbish.
Katy Perry writes and produces SOME of her work but is mostly manufactured from what I understand.
Rihanna is probably 98% manufactured.
Beyonce has half an army to do all the writing/production for her and 90% of her career relies heavily on performance.
Madonna...well see above.
Ariana Grande has a brilliant voice, but her writing/production are mostly precooked.
Demi Lovato...see Ariana.
Selena Gomez is a musical paraplegic.

Do note that I love most of the singers above, especially Rihanna and Ariana. I just don't like to confuse fandom with talent.
Got flavour like ice cream

The state of the music industry is a reflection of how the current generation consumes all goods including music...fleeting and reactionary. Because of the plethora of goods (in this case, music) available for them at the tip of their fingers, they do not know how to handle the unimaginable number of music being produced. They tend to sample whatever's readily available to them using social media as their guide. Everyone follows trends and having consumed the flavor of the day, they go on to the next thing in an insant. Mostly, they don't try to get to know the artists or even go back to the artists discography befor passing judgement to them. You see all these reaction videos to everything and their reactions show their lack of knowledge and seeming lack of willingness to get to know an artist. Whatever is available online is the only extent of their knowledge. This is why it is important for fandoms like ours to put the correct and substantial information out there and I salute the lambily who create content specifically for Mariah and her music, not just her achievements. Thank you guys, whoever you are.

Yeah, she sang Endless Love with Lionel at Tamara Ecclestone's wedding. She also performed #Beautiful that night.
