by Nellie Andreeva
and Mike Fleming Jr

EXCLUSIVE: The story of Mariah Carey’s rise to fame is getting a drama series treatment. We have learned that Starz is developing an untitled fictional scripted drama series based on the the music superstar’ real-life experiences, with Carey executive producing alongside long-time friend Brett Ratner.

Written by Nina Colman (Mahogany), the drama is set in 1986 New York City and chronicles the rise of an ambitious bi-racial 16-year-old girl, an aspiring singer/songwriter who survived a difficult childhood to become the biggest selling female music artist of all time.

Colman, who will serve as showrunner, executive produces alongside Carey and Stella Bulochnikov (Boss) via their Magic Carpet Productions as well as Ratner, Teri Weinberg (Ugly Betty), who previously had developed with Colman, and John Cheng (Horrible Bosses).

Carey had a meteoric rise, launching her career with five consecutive Hot 100 #1 hits in 1990-91: “Vision of Love,” “Love Takes Time,” “Someday,” “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” “One Sweet Day,” “Fantasy” and “Emotions.” The Grammy-winning pop diva is next set to return to her Las Vegas residency and will embark on a North American summer tour with Lionel Richie. On TV, Carey recently toplined and executive produced a docu-series series for E!, Mariah’s World.

Glitter: The Show!!

All jokes aside, that seems like some pretty good news. Starz is a serious network and I feel like this can turn into something good. I hope music is featured in a big way and it could be a nice platform to introduce new music.

Dude that was the name of the show she produced. Not her title.

I'm excited about this too! If it's done correctly, I can sense this being a pretty high profile project for Mariah. Don't wanna jinx it, but maybe some Emmy noms also!

Also just glad Mariah's a big enough name to do this instead of a Lifetime Biopic

LCRiah! Stop disappearing!

Yeah thank god it's not Lifetime! Projects like these are always best when the subject is involved.

Yeah, people are nostalgic for the nineties and pre-controversy Mariah. I could see this being big, too.

It feels too overdone. People probably feel like they've seen it already with Glitter and Mariah's World

It's fictional show loosely based of her experiences not her life.

Fans are being a pain about show already.

Starz is serious network and their. Not green shit that terrible right now.

Glitter was basically Mariah's life story even though she denied it tbh. Yes little things were dramatised & parts of the story was fictional but the outline was similar. No one really cares, not because no one cares about her story or her but because it's just not that special or spectacular.

Hold up, I was open minded about what both Glitter and Mariah's World would be

That whole storyline with Dice was just an updated version of a Star is Born. I do agree with the last part

If you think glitter is really Mariah story your blind.

Plus nowhere did it say it was based her singing career.

Story of her brother getting paid to kill somebody but just took the money without killing.

He friend raped/ molested Allison and rumored Mariah.

Glitter doesn't scratch the surface of her life.

The overseas lambs seem to be clues of the dark shit going around her.

Mariah won't say it but her mother was kinda of shitty. It was known thing in Long Island.

I doubt she'll portray anything that we don't already know. Never heard some of what you just said so I don't know the validity of it but if it's true then sorry I don't see how that's Mariah's story to tell. They didn't even live with her. I'd say she was a difficult teenager & that stems from Patricia's laid back approach to parenting, anything else won't be portrayed.
