Dolores O'Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries, has died. She was aged 46.

The Irish singer-songwriter, originally from Limerick, helped the band find international success in the '90s with singles including Linger and Zombie, scoring nine UK Top 40 singles.

The cause of death has not been revealed publicly, but a statement from her publicist said: "The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session. No further details are available at this time.

"Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time." Dolores leaves behind three children.

Paying tribute to their bandmate, Mike, Noel and Fergal from The Cranberries tweeted: "We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today."

Away from The Cranberries, Dolores released two solo albums in 2007 and 2009, and joined the alt-rock group D.A.R.K in 2014. She also served as a judge on The Voice of Ireland for one season in 2013.

The Cranberries released a new album, called Something Else, in April last year. The record was a collection of their best known songs re-worked acoustically. Look back at The Cranberries complete UK chart history here.

I always loved “Promises” a lot. I wish it had gotten more recognition when it was released.

My favourite is ''I Can't Be With You'', ''Daffodils Lament'' and ''Salvation''.
Their debut single, ''Dreams'' is, in fact, very Cocteau Twins.
''Linger'' sounds a bit like The Sundays.
I gotta say I prefer Dolores solo songs to The Cranberries catalogue.
