Happy birthday to the Queen of Soul! Shocking that a GAD thread for her didn't exist until now. :o

“Respect” is the greatest soul song of all time and quite possibly the most influential single released by any black artist in history! 8-)

The greatest upper-register belter, perhaps? She's got a phenomenal range, but don't some of you guys think that her voice sounds unpleasant up there as she's aged? Maybe she mixes it too much? IDK

Nevertheless, her Nessun Dorma at the Grammys remains unbothered. What. A. Performance!

What. A. Voice.

If the end is indeed near for the Queen of Soul, she leaves behind an unreal legacy and a catalogue littered with songs that belong in The Great American Songbook.

Aretha Franklin Tribute Concert Planned For Madison Square Garden in November

An all-star tribute to Aretha Franklin is in the works for November in New York, Billboard has confirmed.

As Showbiz411 first reported, the concert is being spearheaded by one of the Queen of Soul's longest supports, Sony Music Chief Creative Officer Clive Davis. The event, a celebration of the 76 year-old singer's six decades in music, is reportedly slated to take place at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 14 under the banner "Clive Davis Presents: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin."

While the lineup for the Live Nation-produced gig has not yet been announced, at press time, it seems unlikely that Franklin will attend in light of reports from a source close to the singer that she is seriously ill. The Queen of Soul canceled planned concerts earlier this year after she was ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest up. The singer underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness in 2010, denying that rumors that she was suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Even without a lineup, the roster of potential hits that the artists could cover is impressive, including: "Respect," "Rock Steady," "Think," "Natural Woman," "Chain of Fools," "I Say a Little Prayer," "I Knew You Were Waiting," "Ain't No Way," "Since You've Been Gone" and "Freeway of Love" among many others.

A spokesperson for Franklin could not be reached for further details on her condition at press time.

I'm not familiar with her discography but she is one of the biggest legends of Soul music hands down. RIP Aretha and hope you are in a better place now.

Not very familiar with her music and life story, but a real legend through and through. She paved the way for almost every singer in the land that came after her.

RIP, Ms. Franklin! Such a sad day in music.

I've always loved her version of Walk On By. I think it was recorded before she had her big breakthrough.

She will be missed for sure.
