Of all the songs I expected to become ear worms, this was not one of them - however, I have become obsessed with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra version of it. Madness that this album was out for a year and I wasn't aware of it.
Apparently, these are the artists confirmed for Aretha Franklin's funeral:
Stevie Wonder Faith Hill Ronald Isley Chaka Khan Fantasia Jennifer Hudson Yolanda Adams Shirley Caesar The Clark Sisters Jennifer Holliday Tasha Cobbs-Leonard Marvin Sapp The Williams Brothers Vanessa Bell Armstrong Audrey DuBois Harris Alice McAllister Tillman Edward Franklin
People Get Ready has become one of my favourite Aretha songs over the last week, the vocals in it are just stunning and you really see the depth of her voice and its range, in all of its glory - it's really quite something.
What she does from 02:40 onwards with her upper chest is amazing.
Aretha on the cover of Rolling Stone (for the second time; AFAIK, she was NEVER on the cover during hers and the magazine's heyday despite the fact she's listed as the #1 greatest singer on their list; the last bit is why she graced the cover the last time and this was after she had her first cancer surgery):
"Crime is increasing Trigger happy policing..." -- Marvin Gaye ("Inner City Blues")
