HAPPY 9th ANNIVERSARY TO "CIRCUS" SONG !

Image

On December 2, 2008 "Circus" was released as the second single from Spears' 6th studio album getting praise and regarded as one of Dr.Luke's finest works. The song was a major hit for Britney peaking at #3 in US where it sold over 3million units in pure sales and was a #1 Pop radio hit, it was also certified Silver in UK and overall the song was the 10th best selling song of 2009 worldwide according to the IFPI report, it has sold over 6,5million units in pure sales around the world as of 2017.

Its music video directed by prestigeous director Francis Lawrence follows a more artistc approach than previous Spears' music videos and was critically acclaimed and became her most nominated video at the MTV video music awards and her only music video to gain nominations in multiple technical / professional categories at the VMAs (Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Choreography, Best Editing). Despite the acclaim it was slammed by PETA.

IMO one of her best singles, music videos and releases overall.

"Born to Make You Happy" was released 18 years ago today!

Image

"Born to Make You Happy" is a song recorded by American singer Britney Spears for her debut studio album, ...Baby One More Time (1999). It was released on December 6, 1999, by Jive Records, as the fourth single from the album in European countries. Before recording the song, Spears had to ask the writers of the song, Andreas Carlsson and Kristian Lundin, to re-write it, since it was a sexual song. The singer first recorded her vocals in March 1998, and re-recorded them later in the same year. The dance-pop and teen pop song alludes to a relationship that a woman desires to correct, not quite understanding what went wrong, as she comes to realize that she was "born to make [her lover] happy".
#1: Denmark, Ireland, UK
Top 5: Belgium, Europe, Finland, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland
Top 10: Austria, France, Italy
Top 20: Spain

In my opinion, "Born to Make You Happy" is one of her best releases ever, and the best single from her debut. It's such a feel-good song and it has aged so well. Not releasing this WW was a huge mistake! At least it was a massive hit in Europe and a #1 hit in the UK.

Happy 18th anniversary! :D

Circus and Born To Make Me Happy are among her best songs ever.

Did Circus win any VMA?

Guys which of these 4 famous old school Britney tunes is more iconic? .. "Sometimes", "(You drive me) Crazy", "Lucky" or "Stronger"?

I'd say its between "Sometimes" and "(You drive me) Crazy" ..... I'll go with "Crazy" !

Crazy purely because it was Britney’s 3rd single when she was at the beginning of becoming a big deal, and that song helped people realise she was more than BOMT. But I stan hard for Stronger - it’s one of my fav Britney songs.

My top 10 Britney singles (just because):

1. Toxic
2. Gimme More
3. Boys
4. Oops
5. My Prerogative
6. Circus
7. Slave
8. Stronger
9. Womanizer
10. Perfume

This of course, is simply right now. Be different tomorrow

BOMT is a monster of a song but I never play anything from her first album. I find it a bit crap tbh.

Perfume sneaks into the top 10 because it’s the big hit that should have been. It reminds me of Bubble Brit and feels like a song from Oops or possibly Britney, but with an older vocal - and that’s the Britney I fell in love with.

You know, Tom’s Diner is totally an underrated track in her discography. She should have gone whole hog and done a video for it based on:

3. Gimme More
4. Overprotected
5. Everytime
6. Baby one more time
7. Make me
8. Hold it against me
