Ashanti, an American pop and R&B singer. As of April 2009, she has released four studio albums, twenty-four singles, and twenty-one music videos on her record labels Murder Inc., Def Jam, and Motown.

Ashanti's self titled debut studio album was released in April 2002, and sold over three million copies in the United States. It produced the number-one hit "Foolish" (spending 10 weeks atop on Billboard Hot 100) and two more top forty hits, "Happy" and "Baby". Her second album Chapter II (2003), another platinum-seller, was released a year after and enjoyed international chart success, spawning her international hit Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) [3] The singer's third studio album Concrete Rose was released in December 2004 stateside and certified platinum by the RIAA one month after release. A minor success in international music markets, however it produced two singles only, including the top twenty hit single Only U. Following a hiatus and a label switch from Murda Inc to Motown, Ashanti's often-delayed fourth studio album, The Declaration (2008) was released in June 2008 in the United States.

It's hard to believe she was so huge back in 2002. I hope her next album will at least do better than "The Declaration". With a hit single that shouldn't be hard.

I have a feeling she's going to be quite succesful again with her new album, I don't know why. I think she will definitely score two or three big urban hits from the album and at least one Billboard Hot 100 Top 15 hit.

I never knew there was a music video for the Vita/Ashanti cover of Madonna's 'Justify My Love' :o

I love the original and I've always loved this cover. :D

Totally agreed that The Declaration is her strongest album, so underrated, it really got me back into Ashanti after getting a bit bored through the Concrete Rose era...now I'm really looking forward to the next project.

You guys are going to think I'm lying but during the summer of 2009, I was in Manhattan and some guy was handing out flyers because Ashanti was going to perform at a subway staton. Obviously, it was going to be fancy-ish, but still!! A train station, lol!

I cant see her having a successful comeback.

Idk, shes just not "beyonce" and "rihanna" enough and i cant even see her successful like a Monica or Brandy who i think, might actually do somethign on the charts.
She lost her spark imo.

TD was a solid alubm but it was dated. Nobody can tell me that, that album sounded like 08 bc most of it was like 04 rejects.
She needs to upgrade her sound.

She needs a really catchy hook that will make people love her songs. Her style is very early 2000s, even her recent songs like "Good Good" could have been songs from the Ashanti and Chapter II eras. I agree that she has to upgrade her sound.

At this point I agree, which is a shame considering how talented she is. I just hope she can really surprise everyone and give it her all. I'd hate to just see her fade into the background and end up being a songwriter behind the scenes.

She's doing a livechat on Twitter (@usweekly)

Single is coming out way sooner than you think ;)
Two of my favorite songs the from new album so far are "Paradise" and "She Can't"
Something you don't know about the new album: There's one song that made me cry as I was writing it and again when I listened back
It's excruciating to decide (what songs will be on the album). I've tried so many different sounds, some out of my comfort zone, but I feel good about it :)
Completely new producers, some from the UK, some from LA and lots of them are young.
