Hi guys,
So despite me being at UK Mix for 4 years i've hardly ever been into this forum. Always used to the charts and genre forums mostly. What an amazing forum, so informative and interesting to read. :D

I'm loving this thread, its fascinating to see all the progress Niall has made. I also believe that even though Flicker was #3 in the UK it sold more copies (albeit just about) than what Zayn's Mind of mine sold to be #1 so technically i'm calling it a moral victory for Niall. :P

At the end of the day, first week sales aren't the be all and end all of the grand scheme of things. What's gonna be important now is if Niall can continue to win over more fans as that will be key in keeping his album selling. I also think Niall has played it really well releasing the album now and getting his name out there through touring. I can see his album being a steady seller as we approach christmas and who knows, Flicker may even end the year outselling Harry Styles' debut album.

One Direction joins only The Beatles as acts with three members each with solo No. 1s.

Niall Horan arrives atop the Billboard 200 chart with his debut solo album, Flicker. The set, which was released through Capitol Records on Oct. 20, starts with 152,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 26, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 128,000 were in traditional album sales.

Niall Horan Braces for Stardom Outside One Direction, With Advice From Justin Bieber & The Eagles
Flicker's debut frame was powered largely by album sales, as it racked up 128,000 in traditional album sales, along with 6,000 in TEA units and 17,000 in SEA units. (Of its 128,000 sold, 90,000 were CD sales, and 38,000 were digital albums.)

Further, Flicker's first-week sales were bolstered by a concert ticket/album sale redemption promotion in association with Horan's tour. Such promotions have enhanced the sales for such No. 1-debuting albums in 2017 as P!nk's Beautiful Trauma, Shania Twain's Now and The Killers' Wonderful Wonderful.

For Horan's offer, the cost of the physical CD of Flicker was bundled into the price of each ticket sold online for his tour. After purchasing a ticket, customers received (via email) a redemption offer for the album, where they could choose to redeem the CD and have it mailed to them. The only sales that count towards the charts are those albums that are redeemed by customers. Many ticket buyers never redeem the offer.

One Direction Ties The Beatles as Only Groups With Three Members With Solo No. 1 Albums
http://www.billboard.com/articles/colum ... solo-album
10/29/2017 by Keith Caulfield

As Niall Horan debuts atop the Billboard 200 albums chart dated Nov. 11 with his first solo album, Flicker, he brings the total of One Direction members with solo No. 1s to three. In doing so, One Direction now matches The Beatles as the only groups to see three of its members top the Billboard 200 with solo albums.

Horan follows fellow One Direction member Harry Styles (with his self-titled debut earlier in 2017) and former group member Zayn (with his debut album, Mind of Mine, in 2016).

The Beatles spun off multiple solo No. 1s from George Harrison (two No. 1s), John Lennon (three No. 1s) and Paul McCartney (six No. 1s, including efforts alongside his band Wings).

Of course, both One Direction and The Beatles notched their own No. 1s on the chart as groups. One Direction led the list four times, while The Beatles hit No. 1 a record 19 times.

The only member of The Beatles without a solo No. 1 album is Ringo Starr, who has so far peaked at No. 2 (with his Ringo album in 1973).

There are still two members of One Direction yet to release a solo album: Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson. Both have charted songs in the past year, including a No. 1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart for Payne ("Strip That Down," featuring Quavo) and a No. 7 hit on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for Tomlinson ("Just Hold On," with Steve Aoki).

Not included in our comparison of groups with the most solo members with No. 1s are supergroups such as Traveling Wilburys (with chart toppers Harrison, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty).

Special note should be made of the quasi-supergroup G-Unit, which released its first album in 2003 after its leader, 50 Cent, first topped the chart earlier that year with his major-label debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. The act also featured Lloyd Banks (who would later top the chart with his solo debut), and briefly included The Game (who also later hit No. 1 with his first solo album, though he never recorded with G-Unit on a commercially released album or song by the group).

Niall Horan’s Flicker debuts at number one on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart this week with 16,000-plus consumption points combining track sales and on-demand streams. The Irish singer's solo debut also scores the top album sales and fifth highest on-demand stream total in the week. For Horan, this is the fifth time he has been part of a chart-topping album, as his former group, One Direction, had four No. 1s. He is the third member to have a solo album top the chart, following Zayn (Malik) and Harry Styles.

I don’t know what I was expecting regards Canadian numbers but 16k feels like a solid number.

I'm a bit disappointed with his Australian sales, btw he will have longevity and will sell good as his singles did. And SURPRISED with Canadian sales, I thought the guy who died would block him, 16k is good. :o

Can someone compare Niall's first week sales in America and Canada with those of Harry and Zayn.

Would be amazing to see which of the three albums sold the best initially, but then also interesting to see which of the three goes on to sell the most. :D

Zayn (2016)
US: 157,000 (#1)
CAN: N/A [certified Platinum in the end] (#1)
UK: 22,250 (#1)

Harry (2017)
US: 230,000 (#1)
CAN: 19,000 [yet to be certified] (#1)
UK: 57,000 (#1)

Niall (2017)
US: 152,000 (#1)
CAN: 16,000 (#1)
UK: 22,703 (#3)

His debut is on the same level of Zayn's.

Harry’s first week sales in Canada were 19,000; haven’t been able to find anything for Zayn.

Harry is the clear star as far as soloists and debut albums go, thus far.

Harry barely outsold ZiAll. I think the industry had higher expectations from him. He failed to get a number 1 and two ghosts failed to hit the top 100 despite all the promo.
That makes dusk till down (which is technically a second single) a smash hit in comparison.
Niall surprised I think, but by doing the ticket bundle, his sales were not real. Proof: He is expected to sell only 10,000 copies next week in the USA.
Zayn's mind of mind held better and was called flop.
April 10, 2016 Zayn Mind of Mine falls 1-7 (44,000;) billboard 200.
The question is if Zayn promoted the way Narry promotes, don't you think he would sell better?
It's not fair to compare them with Zayn cause he doesn't do promo, ticket bundles and discounts.
