^ Not only that, but it'll be about as much as Nishino Kana's latest did in total in a single week!

Japan really does love their veteran artists when it comes to album sales.
Kendrick, Beyoncé, and Radiohead are giving me life right now.

Billboard Top Album Sales
159 (New) Fantome - 1,922 copies

Only digital and only 2 days.
It would have made the Top 100 with a full week.

^ A shame she didn't have a full week, but good on her!

Japan Oricon Weekly Albums

1 [1] - Fantôme - 252,581 copies

Looking at it now I can't believe I was ever worried EXILE would beat her, even with an extra day, with their "paltry" 178k

Also:

65 [129] - The Singles Collection Vol. 1 - 1,054 (161 weeks)

Total: 2,613,812

Can't wait for the full top 300 to see if/how her other albums charted.
Kendrick, Beyoncé, and Radiohead are giving me life right now.

:o

I thought she would do around 70k on 2nd week. Massive numbers.

In fact I think she can reach 500k sold by week 6 or so... Maybe even 3xPlatinum in the long term because of shipments is possible at this stage.

Even if the 1st week's total sales were 70,000 or something like this, it would still be good considering her long absence from the music scene.
Even 100,000 physical copies (gold certification) in the whole chart run would be good for today's standards and trends.
Just think of how the other solo artists sell.
Even the successful ones with good sales can't reach these numbers in 2016.

The fact that she is able to sell SOOO MANY physical albums is more than just impressive.
When I was reading comments in some forums (like 3-4 years ago), people had doubts about her impact and sales and I was the same.
I couldn't imagine that she would reach these numbers.

Those who know the situation in Japanese music market (j-pop queens fall, sales have declined, solo artists don't sell well with some exceptions and mostly bands are on top) can understand how impressive Utada's sales are.

Utada's weekend bumps are always very significant, particularly on Sundays. Fantome will probably end up selling about 30,000 copies on it's 5th week and it will still be top 5 in the weekly charts. After 5 weeks, sales will be about 495,00 in physicals only. Amazing longevity from the Japanese queen of pop!

We have zero info on digital album sales in Japan, except for RIAJ digital album certs. Heart Station doesn't have one, so either the album has been downloaded less than 100k times, or it has, but simply hasn't been certified.
