Drake's 'More Life' Takes Over Top 10 of Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 Chart

Drake’s new More Life album dominated the realtime Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart shortly after its release on March 18 as its tracks ruled the entire top 10. Ultimately, 19 of the set’s 22 songs have reached the chart as of 8 p.m. PT on the day of the set's release.

The Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart measures the real-time acceleration of conversation around artists and their music on Twitter.

“Glow,” which features Kanye West, led the list at No. 1, while the Quavo and Travis Scott-assisted “Portland” held the runner-up spot. “Do Not Disturb” and “Free Smoke” ranked at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, and “Teenage Fever,” which interpolates Jennifer Lopez’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “If You Had My Love,” rounded out the top five.

Drake premiered the More Life set during the March 18 episode of his Beats 1 radio show, OVO Sound, before releasing it widely for streaming and purchase. The project, which the superstar announced back in October of 2016, was originally slated for a December release before being pushed back to early 2017. Among the set’s 22 tracks is “Fake Love,” which Drake released in conjunction with the October album announcement. The song reached No. 9 on the Hot 100.

More Life marks the first Drake album since 2016's Views, which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 -- the longest run at No. 1 of any album by a male artist since 1992 -- and finished as the year's No. 2 Billboard 200 album.

Im not good at estimating sales but id say between 600k-700k.

I hope Glow or Portland will take the top spot over Ed's Shape Of You in the us billboard hot 100 soon.

Drake Breaks Apple Music & Spotify Streaming Records With 'More Life' Release
3/20/2017 by Keith Caulfield

Drake’s More Life -- which is heading for a big debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week -- is off to a record-breaking start at Apple Music and Spotify.

More Life’s songs collected a whopping 89.9 million streams globally in the album’s first 24 hours of release on Apple Music. That’s a new single-day record for streams of songs from an album on Apple Music.

Further, Spotify reports that on More Life’s first full day of release, March 19 (following its bow in the early evening of March 18), it generated the best first-day streams for an album on the service: The set’s songs collected 61.3 million global streams. That beats the previous record holder, Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide), which generated 56.7 million streams for its songs on March 3 (the day ÷ was released).

Drake performs onstage at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Festival at T-Mobile Arena on Sept. 23, 2016 in Las Vegas.

In addition, Drake set a new record for the most streams for an artist in a single day on Spotify: 76.4 million streams on March 19. Again, Drake beat Sheeran’s previous high-water mark: 68.7 million streams on March 3.

As earlier reported, More Life is on course for a No. 1 bow on the Billboard 200 chart with over 500,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending March 23. That would grant Drake the largest week for an album since his own Views debuted at No. 1 with 1.04 million units last May.

Drake’s More Life was released to all streaming and digital retail services on Saturday, March 18. Its streaming and commercial release was preceded that day by the project’s premiere on Drake’s OVO Sound radio program on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio at 6:30 p.m. ET.

The album is slated for a commercial release on CD and vinyl LP in the coming weeks.
