Taylor Swift :: The "Reputation" Era

I think the majority of Reputation's singles are not what you call radio-friendly... plus it wasn't the 1989-esque Taylor, in which every song was ready for radio. Albums-wise, however, it's business as usual for Swift.

If you're going to judge a single's success purely on its chart position then sure, go ahead.

But just so you know, it's spending its fourth week at #1 on the AC radio format, many weeks after peaking on other formats (it was #1 on pop radio in late July and #1 Hot AC in August). It was #2 on radio overall. The song still has excellent callout scores on radio, which bids well for its stay on the US chart. Given Delicate's reception, I'm deducing that casual listeners love the track but a bulk of them have not associated it with Taylor Swift yet.

I'd say she has 2 hit singles this era - LWYMMD was a music video, downloads and streaming smash, while Delicate has been a multi-format radio smash.

Reputation spawned one number 1 hit and one additional top 10 hit, which after the success of 1989 wasn't good enough. People are going on about how Delicate has been a success, but has it really been a success? Yeah, it had impressive longevity but it didn't even peak in the top 10. I don't count Delicate as a successful single. Maybe for other artists, reputation would been an impressive era. But for Taylor Swift's high standards, it was a bit of a flop tbh.
Why are you comparing Reputation with 1989? Albums with 3 #1 singles are a rarity and hard to replicate even for people who did it already. Reputation singles did good. Name one artist who wouldn't immediately go for an album with singles that charted at #1, #4, #18, #13 and #12? Most people can dream of that kind of an album.

Sure, Taylor set the standard high after 1989, but c'mon was it realistic to expect that she will have #1 after #1 again? Especially after single sales plummeted (which helped her A LOT) and streaming took over. And we all know which genre's streaming benefits the most and pop is not one of those genre's. Despite only a 3 year gape, the chart business is completely different. 1989 probably wouldn't have 3 #1 singles if it came out now in the streaming era.

I wouldn't be so sure as Taylor is strong on streaming. Plus Shake It Off spent several days at #1 on Spotify before being removed.

Taylor power on iTunes once >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Taylor's streaming power. She has good streaming, but it definitely doesn't fill in for the iTunes death.

She’s performing I Did Something Bad at the AMA’s! Could be a new single...especially since this is proper promo, I think she’s learned

Can we really be sure of this statement though? Reputation is her first streaming era, and even that sold over a million copies in the first few weeks which hurt its long-term streaming numbers as people who own the album don't need to stream it. The album has managed to stay pretty consistent on the charts, and on many weeks (possibly more weeks than not) it has been higher on the B200 than on the top album sales chart which suggests streaming is keeping the album high. The singles from rep have not been huge at streaming, but they weren't huge in sales either, so I'm not sure the comparison can be made.

And the single has not even reached the top 50 yet - quite an achievement, even for Australian standards!

If you mean ever in the history, I think Adele still has enough pull for 2 million sales when she releases her next album.

Taylor won all 4 categories she was nominated tonight, making her the AMAs most-awarded female artist of all time, pushing Whitney into second place. She won Artist of the Year, Favorite Album Pop/Rock, Tour Of The Year & Favorite Female Artist Pop/Rock.

I Did Something Bad is up to #94 on iTunes US!

Yeah adele can do 2 million and maybe taylor can again unless she lost a big chunk of fanbase due to political views.

The album is almost back to the top 10 on iTunes

So what's the next single... IDSB or Getaway Car? Either way both are great choices!

This album is still afloat in the US Top 15 after a whole year... who else gets this kind of longevity?
