They certify albums separately for physicals and digital. That is, Gold for 100k physicals and Gold for 100k digital. Not combined.
Doesn't make much sense, though.
Maybe they should finally certify albums based on total acticivity (physicals+digital+streaming) now that they finally have the combined chart.

Also, I think just like other countries where local music is heavily predominant, they should have certifications for foreign albums with lower figures too. As right now, it's getting more and more difficult for western acts to reach even Gold in Japan.

Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born soundtrack returns to No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, with over 8,000 total consumption units in the week. It is the album’s seventh week at No. 1, marking it as the longest running chart-topping soundtrack album since Frozen spent seven weeks at the top in 2014. “Shallow,” the first single from the album, returns to No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart, the song’s 13th week at the top of the chart.

“Shallow” -- which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has accrued 148.6 million streams to date, according to Nielsen Music -- is the rare smash single written for a critically lauded feature film that could dominate at the Grammys and Oscars alike. Not since Celine Dion’s sweeping Titanic epic “My Heart Will Go On,” which won the Grammys for record of the year and song of the year and the Oscar for best original song more than 20 years ago, does a song pose a legitimate threat to gobble up such prestigious trophies in one fell swoop (Eminem’s 2002 8 Mile anthem “Lose Yourself” snagged an Oscar and two Grammys but lost at the Golden Globes and in the general Grammy categories).

It's Soundscan Year End Chart. (As you did't say it).
It covers the 28 Dec-3 Jan chart as well, so 2018 had 53 weeks.

As Billboard stopped posting its pure sales from week 4 onwards, rest of the weeks have been estimations, mostly with the pure sales figures from HDD charts.
I had it at 690k.

Amazing that it's in fact at 704k up to this week, 14k higher! :D
